That last reblog had me thinking about something that might be a stretch, but I've noticed the pattern long enough that I can say this with absolute certainty:

Selfship hate is rooted in ableism. There really isn't another way I can put it.

Somebody won't readily admit that they're ableist but ask them about selfshippers, and you'll quickly figure out their views on mentally ill people by proxy. They'll call them delusional as an insult, that "these characters aren't real, why are you treating them like they are?", and overall acting like selfshipping will somehow destroy the brain and you should "seek therapy" (but the kind that is meant to straighten you out into a working member of society and not the kind that can actually help you.)

Hell, this even carries over to selfshippers themselves who think they're "above" nonsharing selfshippers, or that they see them as ridiculous for being nonsharing, when the reason they are to begin with is either a coping mechanism from trauma or their mental illness giving them a different perception of reality.

It's using a "socially acceptable" target to get away with being as ableist as possible.
