3D Review

This week has really made me appreciate the immense amount of time, work, and design that goes into everything around us. Buildings, furniture, even my plant pot has been intricately designed in order to serve a purpose and I now appreciate that more than ever.

I initially found it extremely difficult to convert my thought process from 2D into 3D but I know seemed to have cracked it and therefore see dimension in a whole new way in everything I see and do.

Rendering of glass and amethyst cabinet by the Campana Brothers. Amethyst rocks sourced from the brothers’ home city of Sao Paulo are fixed to glass surfaces in the Ametista collection.

This project summarises Boontjes stylistic element of nature and technology. Boontje combines these two ideas into a unified piece of furniture.

This project also illustrates Boontjes imaginative style, “Another important inspiration for me is fashion and the way in which we use fabrics on our body. I try to bring some of this sensuality to the designs. In the series of 7 chairs, I designed these as different characters that you might meet in a story; the princess, the pirate, the witch, the prince etc.”

Boontjes usual bright colouring, detailed layering and abstract forms are also present in these works and add to his overall visual language of ‘forgetfulness’ and in a way playful style.

Overall Boontje has a very unique style that ranges from every project. He has a multiple range of skills and can design anything from vases to detailed textiles. Boontje has a particular interest in nature and technology and tries to simultaneously create designs with both these elements.
