Today I’m excited that the new @barrafdn website launched today. We at @embinteractive worked with Barra and @sagecom to create a video for 6 organizations that The Barra Foundation are funding through their Catalyst Fund that aim to solve critical problems in innovate ways to strengthen communities, ranging from food insecurity (@foodconnectgroup), gentrification (@ujimadevelopers), gentrification and business ownership (@kctphilly), education (@centerblacked and @collegeunbound) and addressing financial/development needs (@muralarts: Color Me Back). The Barra Foundation, Sage Communication, Food Connect, Mural Arts and Kensington Corridor Trust are all women led organizations that I’m honored to work with and share with you this women’s history month. I have a question for you, and it's open to all, but I want to hear from you, especially if you work in the creative field today. What are your personal feelings and experiences with Unions? Have you benefited from them directly? As some of you may know, prior to becoming a full-time business owner and freelance artist, my career was centered in a Union operated field. Although I have been out of that particular workforce for over 6 years, I still follow the Union way of working and carry many of those practices into my business today. Not only that, but it was great seeing Unions fighting for fair contracts for their workers this past Summer, especially in this new financial climate where working people need all of the support they can get to avoid burnout, wrongful practices, and secure futures. Much to my surprise, today I learned that I can now say that my photos have been published in a book! Congratulations to the always amazing @richardwatson.biz for having his work featuring in “Shifting Time: African American Artists 2020-2021”. The book explores how contemporary Black artists responded to the emotional and cultural challenges presented by the Covid-19 pandemic, social justice movements, and political upheaval during this critical period of turmoil and uncertainty. Thank you 2022. This year by far was my best one ever as a small business owner. Things started off slightly disappointing, but then @embinteractive not only contracted its first #Fortune500 company in @pepsico, but also received its first publishing credit ever, and that was with the @nytimes. I was able to receive funding and mentorship to help aid the business growth, and in the process pay more people for working with us than ever before, as well as place myself in a position to help guide others in their growth as well. I’m excited to see what 2023 brings, but I’m determined to only have things continue to go up from here. Thank you all for your support, your patronage, and just believing in what I’m doing.
