Project 2.0 Proposal
Project 1.0 is providing us with more skills that will be necessary in designing our game. Character animation will be a defining factor in our game, as they will provide idle, walking, and attacking animations for all of our characters. A looped javascript animation would work well for some of those, as well as background animations, such as trees and wind, dancing party-goers, and other environmental aspects. Procedural animation would control when the player moves around Adam, as well as during combat to elicit which attacks and spells will be used. Our basic plan is that Matt will whip up a sprite sheet and animation for the main in combat. Kevin will make the animation of the main character from his ‘above’ view that is used during the maze. Jacky will create and animate an enemy or the end goal animation (success/victory!), each secondary character will be animated by Yali, Lexie, and Drew, and Joe will do some animations for the background.
Project 2.0 Proposal
Our team is comprised of seven members from the EMDA203 class at 8:30. Matt is the artist that takes credit for the drawings here. He has a lot of practice from doodling and sketching in his free time, as well as the multiple art and EMDA classes he has taken so far. Matt enjoys playing video games, and would like to do the primary concept art for this project. Kevin is our coder/developer. He has dabbled is all forms of digital media, and is savvy in CSS, html, javascript, and photoshop. He enjoys the outdoors and fishing to balance out his love of computers. For this project, Kevin wants to do animation. Joe is our primary organizer. He has taken several EMDA classes, which gave him basic skills in photoshop, javascript, and html. He is also an Eagle Scout, which he attributes his teamwork and leadership skills to. In his free time, Joe likes to play video games, read, and swim. For this project, he wants help out with gameplay concepting, as well as pulling everyone’s ideas and contributions together for a final product. Jacky is one of our animators. She’s tried out a few types of digital media, and has basic skills in html and javascript. She likes to do theatre, hang out with friends, and use Tumblr. For this project, Jacky wants to expand on her animation and coding, as well as fulfill her title of Blog Master. Yali is another one of our artists. She has skills in drawing, Photoshop, html, and javascript. She likes to spend her free time outdoors, as well as drawing. For this project, Yali wants to work on character design, backgrounds/sceneries, and gameplay concepts. Lexie is our jack-of-all-trades. She has taken some EMDA classes, which have developed her skills in coding, drawing, video, audio, and image editing. She’s eager to learn more about coding and web design. Lexie would like to contribute some art, animation and coding. Drew is an animator. He has experience using javascript and html, as well as drawing. He likes to hang out with friends and meet new people. Drew wants to do more animation, as well as expand on his coding skills.
Project 2.0 Proposal
A bird’s eye point of view will be in effect while the player is moving around the map, but during combat, the camera will switch to a side view, as shown on page 3. The first level takes place inside the house party, which will have stains, empty cans and bottles lying around, a thick haze of smoke, and a whole ton of people. The maze will be formed by the house walls, furniture, and the crowds of partiers. The enemies will have a dark and gruesome theme, but also have small characteristics of what each of them represent in real life, such as the policeman and rat pictured to the right.
Project 2.0 Proposal
Adam, our main character, is shown on the far left, as well as above. He’s tough, strong, and a bit of a jerk. He plays for the baseball team, and is always seeking the attention of women. His weapons of choice are a baseball bat, pool cue stick, and a baseball. His partner in crime, Sid, is shown to the right, as well as at the top of page 3. Sid is a prankster, a skateboarder, and most of all, a trouble maker. He likes to pick fights, but is an expert at weaseling his way out of them. His weapons of choice are a skateboard, a broken beer bottle, and his pet monkey, Lolo. Sid will join the player once he is located at the house party. Lucy (pictured bottom left) is the most popular girl in school. She’s thought to be too pretty, and is disliked by the majority of the female population because of her affinity for verbal abuse. Her favorite pass times include shopping, chewing bubblegum, and crushing hearts. Her specialty weapons are chewed gum, slingshot, and a hair dryer. Lucy will reluctantly join the player out after she gets help sneaking out.
Rory (pictured above) will never admit it, but he’s the definition of a hipster. He listens to music you’ve probably never heard of, can play five different instruments (two of which are indigenous to Africa), and needs a smoke break every hour. He may think he’s far superior to all these midtown losers, but he can’t resist a deck party or a nice cold bronson. His weapons of choice include cigarette smoke/ embers, guitar, and his iPhone. Rory will join the player’s quest after he hears how deck the night will be.
Project 2.0 Proposal
Hello! We’re Team A, and do we have a treat for you! We’re here today to show you the next big thing: The Foggy Maze. The Foggy Maze is a computer video game meant to entertain for hours upon hours. The player controls the actions of Adam, a college baseball player who’s attending a wild house party. He’s had enough drinks already (as well as a few other substances), but when a pretty girl asks him, he volunteers to find more booze. Using the arrow keys, the player will have to guide Adam through the smoke-filled house, which has become a monster-infested maze in Adam’s mind. Because of how thick the smoke is, the player can only see in a limited area around Adam. Running into an enemy will send the player to a battle screen, which will be fought in a turn-based manner. Adam thinks he is a medieval warrior, and thus uses blunt weapons to beat down his enemies’ health bars. Along the way, the player may stumble upon Adam’s friends, who will join him in the quest for more alcohol. The game will end when Adam finally locates the drinks that he can bring back to the party guests and become the hero of the night.
Our quick five video game brainstorms:
