My 9-year-old campers are making paper mache eggs with small balloons as the support. One student's balloon popped prematurely and everyone is OBSESSED with having a funeral for it. We all have to wear black on Friday. They're making fake food for the wake. They're writing an obituary that I have to make copies of and distribute. One kid wrote a eulogy for my example egg to read. We're all supposed to wear red for the "sacrifice" of the other balloons tomorrow (we need to pop them to finish the project). The deceased balloon is named Jerry.
Obituary and funeral. The kids made an effigy of Jerry out of paper since the original was thrown away. The funeral was attended by turtles and clay sculptures the campers made this week (you can see one turtle on the left dressed in black). We played sad violin music and made tears to tape on our faces out of construction paper. The other studios brought flowers they had made to lay upon Jerry's coffin. RIP Jerry Da Balloon🎈
