Emilia was adopted by the Madden’s days after her birth. The Madden’s were loving and gave her a good home, and while they tried to coordinate an open adoption when they were filing the paperwork, her biological parents weren’t interested. And Emilia was never interested in knowing them. Growing up, whenever one of her friends started a new activity, Emilia quickly followed. Soccer, softball, dance classes, gymnastics. She tried everything once, but nothing kept her focus. Until she joined choir in middle school.

Suddenly, it felt like she found her calling. Except there was one issue. Emilia couldn’t sing worth a damn. Never stopped her from trying though. She sang in the car until people begged her to stop, she’d, without fail, audition for every school musical and when she wasn’t cast, she’d sign up for the behind the scenes jobs. 

She was a sophomore in high school when she was given the title of Marketing Director of the drama club so she would stop auditioning. Once again, Emilia’s calling fell right into her lap. She was organized - almost to a fault - and mix that with her creativity and drive, Emilia finally found a way to stay around the industry she loved with her particular skill set. Pretty soon she was running fundraisers for the school music department and even helping with some of the sporting events. She became a powerhouse and when she graduated college, she turned all that experience and a marketing degree into a social media management career. 

Emilia climbed the ranks at her first job. Going from an assistant to social media manager quickly, she was invited to go on tours with her clients to coordinate their social media on the road. It was there she met Nathan. Head of security. Older and absolutely gorgeous. They hung out on days off and during concerts Nathan got her to the best spots to watch. Pretty quickly, you couldn’t find one without the other, constantly hanging out, heading to bars on nights off. It didn’t take long for the relationship to turn romantic. And like usual, Emilia fell in love hard. Maybe this time would be different. 

Tour ended six months ago, and when they were saying goodbye, Nathan promised to call her, to come see her, but after a few weeks of unanswered messages it’s become pretty clear that this time wasn’t different. So Emilia did what she does best. Throw herself into her work and fill silences with cheesy love songs. She’d bounce back, she always does.

"So what's the diagnosis, looking at the social medias stuff or whatever for the bar?" It was no secret to anyone that worked for Lottie that her social media skills were more than lacking. She had no idea how any of it truly worked, but she knew how to post a picture and scroll through a feed. Lottie knew that it was important, though and she knew that most people her age and younger used it to find out what's going on in the world. After her in house marketing person moved on to bigger and better things it was high time she get on top of it for the sake of the Tin Roof. Which meant hiring someone who knew social media and that's where Emilia came in. "Am I doomed?"

Scrolling through the Tin Roof's social media, Emilia realized that this wouldn't be as easy as she thought. Business accounts ran differently than an individuals, but sometimes it was easier. Especially when the business already had a specific voice and an already established clientele, which the Tin Roof had. But the issue is that the voice got jumbled when their former social media person left. And now Emilia was dealt to untangle the knot of what should be on the bar's social media. "I wouldn't say doomed," she finally said, circling her straw around the Diet Coke the waitress ust dropped off. "You just have to find the specific voice again. Find an angle, and you really have one already. Like...hometown bar where regulars come to hear new music. You got something there...something that people look for in a bar y'know? They want to feel like the cast of Cheers. They wanna walk in and know you."

"Tell me why," Emilia said, stretching her arms as high as they could go to line up the poster in her hands up on the wall. "You're like ten feet tall and I'm the one hanging up this shit?" She had come to help under the premise of organizing and deep cleaning while her brother hung up the decorations they both brought. Glancing over her shoulder at said brother, Emmy huffed in annoyance. "Wy, you're not even looking." Something had been going on with her brother for a while now, and while Emilia usually waited for him to share, since the two of them weren't really closed books with each other, she didn't this time. Setting the poster down and jumping off the chair she was using as a ladder, Emilia moved to sit on the desk Wyatt was standing in front of. Kicking at his knee, she raised one perfectly shaped eyebrow. "What's goin on? I can hear the gears in your brain workin' overtime across the room."

“Listen,” Tierney said, pulling the straw out of her iced matcha and holding it up, “I’m all for saving the turtles. Mother Gaia or whatever. However! I’m getting real sick of these flaccid-ass paper straws. Couldn’t kill a turtle with this if you tried. Which I guess is the point, but the turtles aren’t the ones paying $6 for a latte. You’d think you’d be getting quality straws for a price like that.”

The last table open was the one by the pick up section of the Daily Drip bar. Emilia didn’t mind, but god it was distracting. Mostly because Em’s favorite pastime was people watching, and what better place to do that than a coffee pick up counter on a Saturday morning? She’s heard two awkward one night stand endings, a onesided fight with a parent about perpetual singleness (which hit maybe a little too close to home for her), and now a rant against the paper straw movement. Leaning back in her seat, Emilia raised an eyebrow. “Mostly because companies want you to spend like twenty bucks on their reusable cups.” She said, motioning to her own. “Or start carrying those retractable ones on your car keys.” Which she didn’t even think would work well, but that’s beyond the point. The paper straw hater had fully turned and recognition dawned on Emilia for just a second. “Tierney?”

Wyatt's jokes quickly turn to sadness. He hated seeing anyone upset-- but especially his sister. She deserved better than that. And considering she had committed herself to the idea that he was 'the chance' or 'the one', whatever you want to call it makes the man's chest ache for her. He knew exactly that feeling and he's never handled it well either. Wyatt's been living in the past for so long, he's not sure that there's ever been a future to find. "So he was it?" he asks, biting the inside of his cheek. "Maybe he'll wise up," he adds, shrugging.

She can feel the shift in her brother before she looks at him and he knows what he's thinking about. Wyatt's been through this in a much larger sense in front of their entire family. Thinking about the day in the chapel made her sad it didn't happen to her. And she felt guilty for putting these emotions back onto him, but out of everyone in her life Wyatt knew how this felt. "I think so, but then again how many times have I said that in the past?" Snorting at her own stupidity, she collapsed into the back of the couch. "Maybe he will." Emilia didn't want to talk about herself anymore. So she reached out and patted Wyatt's knee. "Now, tell me about what you want your classroom to look like this year." Emilia loved helping Wyatt decorate his classroom, and maybe had come up with way too many ideas for the task at hand.

It was without question, that Broadway was one of the more exhausting parts of the city to visit. The tourists swarmed the streets like they were fruit flies on a dumpster. The music, while he was certain was probably well performed, all blended together in a mix of 90's, country, pop, top 40, screamo, etc. He could remember a time when it was all still just a little too overwhelming for his liking. Thought back on his first week in town. The night he'd slipped out of his uncles, and found himself having to drown out the bright lights and overwhelming surplus of noise with 9 vodka sodas in less than 2 hours. He'd been in for one hell of a headache the next morning when his uncle had caught on to the hangover. But despite the large majority of what Cristian considered to be Broadways short comings, it did have one large positive. One of the easiest places to pick up weed in all of Nashville. Sure it occasionally meant he had to sit and listen to their bullshit spiel about how it was decriminalized in Davidson county, but it was worth it for what he was walking away with.

Three years into his stay in Nashville, and he now considered himself to be a bit of a pro. Duck through the crowd, hoodie up as if there was any possible chance of being recognized, picking up as much as they'd allow him to take in one go and then making a b-line for the downtown library parking garage that was only a block or two away. The walk was quick, but the humid summer night air wasn't doing him any favors as he ducked into the garage just in time to find a familiar face leaning up against his car. A small smirk gracing his features as he pulled a joint out from behind his ear and proceeded to light it as he approached. "Well well well, look who decided to come out. If you're planning on staying, hop in the car, we're not staying down here. Streets are fuckin packed in like sardines."

She told them that going to Broadway would be a bad idea. But her friend just went through a break up and apparently their usual spots weren't good enough for her so there they were. Wading through clumps of bachelorette parties and regular tourists on the street. After three hours Emilia was neither drunk or having fun, so she had talked the girls into going back. But they all said they were going to pee and wanted to get food so they'd meet Emilia back at the car. It wasn't far away at the safest garage they could find - far away from the drunks throwing up on the street and people looking for vehicles to steal - so she walked down the street alone, scrolling TikTok as she moved.

Her friend's car wasn't the only one on the garage floor, but as she patted her pockets for the keys she realized that they were still in her friend's purse. Huffing in annoyance, she moved down the row of parked cars to find a single spot of service to tell them to hurry their asses up. It was too humid to stand there waiting in the outfit that was cute to wear to the bar but impractical for Nashville in early August. The only spot that pulled a single bar into the corner of her phone screen was in front of a strangers car. Hoping they wouldn't show up until Emilia was gone, she leaned against the front bumper, checking texts she missed in the crowded bars. Apparently, that was too much to ask or as she heard the voice of someone behind her. Nearly jumping out of her skin, Emilia turned around, an apology on her lips. It was quickly silenced as the man continued. Head tilting to the side, Emmy arched an eyebrow upward. "You usually tell random people to just get in your car with them?"

The fact that he still needed to play nice with the label isn't beyond him. Miles has a contract and in order to earn money and not get sued, he has to fulfill said contract. Having someone do his social media was just one of those things and admittedly, Emilia wasn't the worst. Not that he wasn't still just as sarcastic or hard to get along with as he was with anyone else, but she at least came to him.

Miles grabs water from the fridge, closing it as he huffs, shooting Emilia a look over his shoulder. "I was voted hottest country singer in plenty of publications. I promise it wasn't just because of my smile. You have plenty to work with," he assures her. Not that he looked at the picture. It'd taken Emilia plenty of time to convince him to just go to the photo shoot. A smile would've been too much to ask. Admittedly, he used to be way easier to deal with. Hell, he used to love this shit. "My hobbies?" he asks, eyebrows furrowed as he thinks about the question. What should they highlight? Him getting pissed at news reports about him, getting pissed at the label, or him being pissed at himself for not being able to make new music? Dealer's choice. "I like to buy cars. I'm sure that'll really make everyone love me. Have them come to the dealership with me and watch me drop a couple hundred thousand." A small sarcastic 'I told you so' sort of smile etches itself onto his face.

"Yes I'm very aware," Emilia said, hoping that her lingering glance on the man's biceps as he shut the fridge door wasn't obvious. "But unfortunatey for you, that broody look," She said, turning her laptop for Miles to see the photo she was looking at. The look on his face was teetering the line of smolder and glower, and while Miles wore it well - really well - Emilia had a task at hand. "It's really hard to sell toothpaste when they can't see your teeth."

Emilia had a long list of difficult clients, so Miles' attitude about social media wasn't phasing her much. But it was extremely frustrating that he seemed to get joy from making things harder. "I can work with cars," She said after a glare and brainstorming for a moment. "Do you fix cars? Because then yeah you could post a bit about working on a car and bam. You start winning the hearts of blue collar country lovers everywhere."

“You’d make my job so much easier if you smiled,” Emilia lamented, sitting at Miles’ kitchen counter, scrolling through photos sent over from a photoshoot done with a local photographer that were done yesterday. She was staring a little more intently at her laptop than she usually did, trying to pull photos for a series of Instagram posts talking about his day to day. Including the integrated promo for specific products in the comments was the easy part. But the hard part was finding pictures that companies would approve of. Miles had this brooding thing going on which was good - really good (Emilia could confidently say half these photos would end up being fan lockscreen photos) - but maybe not for advertisements. Finally glancing up at the man in question in his own home, Emilia arched an eyebrow. “You have such a nice smile.”  Which was true, Miles had a nice everything, but she was hoping the compliment would coax said smile out of the man. Closing her laptop, Emilia tried a new route. Resting her elbow on the counter, she watched Miles move around the room. She had worked with him for long enough at this point to know better than to ask about new music. She was sure his label was giving him enough shit about that, and she had the misfortune of reading his Instagram comments. Sighing a little but, Emmy ran a hand through her hair. “I think you’re in a really interesting position right now…you’re not promoting anything right now,” She was toeing the cliff that she needed to avoid. “So you could let your fans in a little bit into your day to day. Like obviously not in an intrusive way…but like…what are your hobbies, dude?”

"yeah, that's my stuff," she said after internalizing how she looked like she was about to explode. blair was often good at having a poker face but lately the stress and the tiredness from all the work she's been doing has been keeping her up and eating her from inside. she was reaching the moment in her life where she was tired from being stuck and not moving forward. she had moved to nashville to be a rock star, not to keep living a small town girl life.

"take a seat, it's the least i can do." reaching to grab her stuff, she closed her laptop, put it in the sleeve and shoved it in her tote. it would also give them space for when the coffee arrived. "this one's on you so that means i definitely owe you the next one," blair said finally. she didn't like to be in debt to anyone, ever. "also i definitely know you but i'm such a shitty neighbour i have no clue what your name is. i'm blair, and you?"

"Okay that's a deal," Emilia said, never one to turn down free anything when it's offered, but in reality the woman in the corner had piqued her interest. Mostly because she vaguely recognized her as someone who lived on the same street as Emmy, and then there was the kinship she felt toward someone else who was outwardly tired of the world. Laughing, Emilia shook her head. "You're not a shitty neighbor, I've only been back a few months." Taking a sip of her own drink, she gave the woman across the table a small smile. "I'm Emilia. Nice to meet you, Blair. Do you wanna talk about what's been obviously stressing you out?"

"dude at the end of the bar seems to be asking for a sucker punch to the face." juliet's voice comes out in a soft mutter as she fiddles with her camera, eyes focused on the tiny display screen. it'd been a long day of back-and-forth with a client, their times getting muddled in the communication process that had landed her in that bar to begin with. she was over an hour early and it was too hot to wait outside, so even though juliet didn't drink for several reasons, she figured this was better than nothing. with a sigh, she glanced up at the person next to her, flashing them a tight-lipped smile, realizing they'd probably heard her. "sorry; people usually find it better to ignore me when i say grumpy shit."

A bar wasn't her first choice of a business meeting location, but the band that had DM'd her on instagram for help was only in town for a night and they really hadn't thought their schedule through. So Emilia was waiting for them to wrap up sound check before giving them a free consultation of their social media. She felt bad. They were a cool band, a song went viral, but they were running everything themselves, and there was definitely a lot they could be doing better. So she agreed. Emmy had been chatting with the bartender when she heard someone speaking beside her. Glancing to the other bar patron, brown eyes flitted behind her to the dude at the end of the bar in question. "What's he doin?" She asked, eyebrow raised at the self proclaimed grump beside her. "Honestly, don't feel bad sometimes you gotta get the anger out. I talk to myself all the time when I'm annoyed."

though the need for coffee was overwhelming, blair just wasn't up for the whole ordeal that would imply leaving her things behind, doing the line, waiting for the coffee and then drinking it. perhaps it's the spoiled side of her that was still alive and kicking. a side to her personality she had been able to subdue but not quite get rid of yet. her attention moved towards the person standing in front of her. at first blair didn't recognize them but concentrating a bit more she saw who it was and she smiled a bit - mostly politely. "do I really look that bad?" blair teased. "that's a really good offer..." she peered over her neighbor and said, "fuck it, i'll take it. a flat white please?" though blair was always homesick, she understood not a lot of places around made tea the way she liked it, much less a place like nashville. "how much is it?" her hand dug into her tote bag to pull out her wallet with the money to give for her order. "you're a life saver, truly," she said as she searched.

Laughing a little Emilia shrugged. "You look stressed, not bad. Just...ready to explode." Maybe that was bad, but Emilia didn't waht this stranger to think that she's insulting them. "Take the coffee," She offered again before the blonde finally agreed, grinning, Emilia turned and waved down one of the baristas and slid him a twenty to make the flat white first. Turning to the other woman, Emilia waved her off. "No, this one's on me. I can tell when someone else needs a break too." Laughing a little, she noticed the table behind them. "That your stuff?"

Sid let out a quick chuckle at her response. "I got two modes, one word responses and rambling on for too long." That was normally reserved for interviews and those close to him, however. It was said most of the band couldn't get a word in around him which he was trying to get better about but they never seemed to care much. "I picked out the name of my band when I was fifteen, before I even had a band." Now that he thought about it, it was kind of funny it stuck as long as it had. He paused to listen to the lead singer's intro and welcome to the small crowd that gathered. "Asteroid Cows," he answered, looking over to his new companion again. "Not an awful name for an alternative punk band, I guess." Sid shrugged because honestly what did he know? As long as the fans like it, names didn't seem to matter a ton. "What would you name yours?"

"Sounds like me in the morning versus the rest of the day," Emilia snorted. Really, once you got her started it was hard to get her to stop but that was not something she was going to force this stranger who was doing her a favor to listen to. Brown eyes going to the stage, she hummed. "Asteroid Cows...not...awful?" It sounded like they clicked "randomize" on a name generator, but hey. If it worked it worked. Though apparently, they often did not. "Me? God...I dunno...if I named my band at fifteen it would be something stupid...my instant messenger name was so bad I wouldn't trust teenage me." But she thought about it, and settled on. "States of Mind, I guess. Could mean anything, and all our albums could be like a something state of mind. Branding would be impeccable."

Wyatt can't help but snort. Leave it to the Madden siblings to get themselves ghosted -- again. It seems to be one of their special talents. He's surprised that their parents are even still married considering the shitty luck the siblings apparently have. "Why because I already got mega, super ghosted in front of our friends and family?" he laughs. There's definitely no coming back from getting up in front of everyone who came for a wedding and letting them know that there would be no vows but that they should drink the tequila before he did. Certainly, Emilia couldn't have seen his example and followed right behind him. "What'd I say about using me as a role model? I'm a bad one. But come on, let's get a drink and tell me about the ghost."

She saw that coming. Wyatt joking about something that she knows fucked him up, but that's how he coped with things, and it was easier for the two of them to joke around about the heavy stuff then dwell. But that's not what she was saying. "Well no, because being in close quarters with my big brother would kinda put a damper on the whole hooking up scene." She pointed out. Emilia followed her older brother and sighed. "Can't help it, I got practice looking up to you." She let the literally hang silent in the air between them as she sat down and kicked her feet onto her mom's coffee table. "Not really sure how much you wanna know. He was a body guard, hot as hell, and I really thought this was my chance."

blair has always loved the sounds of a busy space, filled with noises and chatter. growing up in a pristine home with too much silence to fill the rooms was deafening and now all she craves is noise and sounds -- especially those of a busy coffee shop during the late afternoon.

she was sitting down in one of the furthest tables of the daily drip, laptop and notebook in front of her as her hand scribbled down lyrics for the new song she was working on. she had her headphones on her head, good quality in order to cancel out the noise outside just to hear the notes of the digital piano she had on her computer and for better concentration.

the lack of rest and good sleep had been catching up to her; a strong cup of coffee would go well right now but as her eyes looked up and saw the line to order, blair slumped in her seat, dreading having to get up. "fuck."

It should be embarrassing that she's in Daily Drip enough that every barista knows her by name, but in reality, it makes Emilia feel a little special. Sure, she's aware that she's not the only one, but walking into a store that smells like fresh coffee beans and hearing Hey Emilia, your usual? would brighten even her worst day. Plus, it's extremely helpful on a Saturday afternoon, when it's this busy. All she has to do is walk in, and by the time she gets to the register to pay, her drink is already done. Which was a relief, because today has been difficult to say the least. Clients ignoring her advice and leaving her to pick up the pieces, and producers not following the timeline for music releases so her social media countdowns were fucked.

But now with the coffee in her hand, she felt like she had a semblance of control of her life back. Turning around to see if there was an open table to take a second to herself before getting back to her emails, she spotted someone in the corner, eyeing the line. "You," she said, approaching the table, half a smile on her face. "Look the way I feel. I know the people behind the counter, want to jump the line?"

"A soft pretzel and an overpriced drink?" She repeats, feigning outrage. "What are you trying to bleed me dry here?" She laughs, but then feels a little badly about it. The difference in their financial status had always been a big obstacle for her and Wyatt, even if they liked to pretend that it wasn't. But she lets Emilia drag her to the line up anyways, cringing at the poor guy who goes flying into the inflated bull ring. "Okay, so you're going to want to do the exact opposite of what that guy just did." She doesn't know how much Emilia actually wants to know about her return to Nashville, shrugging her shoulders a little and keeping her gaze on the next contestant. "It's different. Not necessarily bad. Just different." She isn't sure how much she's really allowed to get into, but she can't stop herself from talking anyways. "I saw your brother."

"Hey now," Emilia said, a laugh in her words as she crossed her arms over her chest, nodding at the chaos behind them. "I'm risking my life right now - I think a soft pretzel is extremely reasonable." Exact opposite of what that guy just did. The younger woman blinked at the bull - now riderless - and then back at the woman beside her. "He went flying off that so fast I don't even know what he did....Brenna am I actually going to die?" She asked, hoping her voice sounded more joking than actually stressed. This had to be safe right? It was at a family event. Except all other thoughts escaped her mind as she heard that Wyatt and Brenna had bumped into each other again. A little surprised her brother hadn't said anything yet, Emilia raised an eyebrow at Brenna. "You did? How'd that go?"
