                  Private Conversations With 🖛
― @emiliexnolan
Coming back to New York - it was one of the smartest moves he’s made in his life. The results of now being with Emilie – he couldn’t be happier. For once he could actually see a better future for himself with Emilie. Even though he agreed to keep them a secret for right now - he still wanted to tell Oliver and Adelaide. Besides Em, they are the most important people in his life and he couldn’t stand withholding something like this from them. Especially the fact that he went back to Oregon for rehab as well. Nevertheless, he dressed in some dress and a dress shirt with some nice shoes before heading over to Emilie’s place. Excited about their planned date. It’s been a while since they went on a date and truthfully it’s been long over do.Â
Sending her a 5 minute warning text at a red light, the anxiousness inside of him never left making the five minutes feel like hours. Eventually he did pull up to her place and knocked on her door. “It’s your friendly neighborhood stalker.”Â
In anticipation for their date, Emilie hadn’t been able to focus on much of anything that day. In fact she started to get ready almost two hours before he was meant to arrive, which was wild to her. Since she the last time she’d spent that long getting ready was one of the many formal gala’s she’s attended. That in itself was proof of how nervous she was, which was also crazy, since this was Preston. Out of everyone, she shouldn’t be nervous to be with him and yet, she wanted to look nice. She curled her hair, put on a dress that flattered her body in the best way possible. When he gave her the five minute text, she couldn’t help but chuckle and shake her head. Thinking about how he hasn’t changed that much. Hearing his knock on the door, she smiled as she opened it. Seeing him dressed up, brought a smile to her face. “Probably the hottest neighborhood stalking I’ve ever seen.” She teased before leaning in and pressing a loving peck on his lips. “Hi,” She giggled, before pulling away. “I’m almost ready,” she announced before walking back into her bedroom to grab her purse. As she did, she found a picture of them from College. Her standing next to him in his baseball uniform, she chose to grab it quickly, in order to show it to him. “Look what I found earlier.” She smiled, before handing him the photo.

Emmett had said he was going to keep out of her relationships, specifically anything that might have to do with Preston. So when she started talking, he knew her well enough to know that she wasn’t going to share anything that had to do with him. he listened to him and nodded. “Chris reached out to me. I think he is interested in the offer I presented him.” He said as he sipped his wine and shrugged. “I just wanted the truth and if that is the truth then that is what I wanted. And you’ve never lied to me, so then yes, It’s what I wanted to hear.” He said with a smile. “I’m starving lets order everything.” He said with a laugh.
Emilie stared at her best friend, who was truthfully more like a brother to her. His decision to pass on pressing her about the topic was a smart one. Since they both knew she would never admit to him about her rendez-vous with Preston. At the mention of Chris’s deal, Emilie raised her eyebrows, as she grabbed her glass of wine. “Oh? Well that is quite promising.” She explained. “Have you spoken much of details?” she didn’t need to flaunt the fact that she hadn’t been in touch with Chris either as of late, due to reasons that would lead back to Preston. When he stated that she’s never lied to him, that was the truth, though it was pretty bent. Since she’s never lied, though she hasn’t indulged all the details either, a part of her felt a tinge of guilt. He was too good at this. “God me too,” She added, thankful the conversation has turned. “So, not if, but when Christopher takes your deal. Where are you thinking of it being? Cause it needs to be close enough to Sunrise Investments, for employees to go there.” She informed as if he needed to be reminded.Â

Emmett was more than a litlte concerned about Emilie and her recent distance. He was used to them being closer and things being easy with them, but since the night at the maquerade, he hadn’t seen her and had hardly heard from her other than a rogue text here and there. So when she asked to meet for dinner, he jumped at the chance. He got there early, wanted to make sure he could see her coming. When she arrived he watched her walk across the room to where he was sitting. he stood up and kissed her cheek as she came to the table. “It is. Michel is the head chef.” He said throwing out a name of the chef like he was an old friend of theirs. “So you wanna tell me what the and stuff is?” He asked her as he picked up his glass of wine taking a sip of it.
Before approaching the restaurant Emilie had a feeling she would need to do some defending on her sudden disappearance. The truth was Preston was the reason. Since the night of the event, they haven’t spent much time apart outside of the workday. Who could blame her? The man she thought she lost and she assumed would hate her if they were to ever meet again, has come back into her life with the exact opposite feelings. It was hard for her to control her level of happiness, another reason one would say she was avoiding Emmett. She didn’t like lying to him, it was one of the hardest things she could do. As she sat across from him, she grabbed the napkin that was neatly placed on her plate and threw it on her lap. As he asked her what other stuff was keeping her busy, she sighed lightly. “Well you know, I’ve been working at finding the right unit for Sugar Rub and I’ve been getting closer with Oscar Beaufort recently, so that kind of stuff.” She looked at him, as he took his glass of wine. “Is that the answer you wanted to hear?” She knew him well enough to know his question wasn’t exactly what is was at face-value, there was a hidden question within that she was going to have him ask her flat out if he wanted that answer.Â
Seeing Emmett wasn’t something that usually made her nervous, actually, there was never a time where she had been nervous to meet up with the man who meant as much as a family member to her. Of course, considering his curiosity about Preston at the event and the obvious disapproval for her interacting with him in anyway, she knew he absolutely wouldn’t be impressed with how she ended that same evening. Something right now she chooses not to tell him. The woman walked into the restaurant she was meeting him at and walked towards the table the tall curly-haired man was patiently waiting for her. “Hey,” She smiled gently, before taking a seat across from him. “This places looks nice.” She complimented. “Sorry for being distant these past few days, I’ve been a little pre-occupied, you know with the Sugar Rub offer and stuff.”Â

Having lunch with the son of the enemy wasn’t something one would assume she would do. Though over the years she’d been able to find a way to bond with him on a level she'd only hoped to achieve. Of course, starting this relationship with a one night stand, wasn’t what she’d initially had in mind, though she knew there was a bigger picture, and when all that will be revealed she may actually feel bad, though right now she wasn’t thinking about that. What was really on her mind was Preston and what he’d told her the night of the event. She almost couldn’t wrap her head around it, even a few days later. As their previous conversation closed she chose to dive into a new topic, “So are you ever going to get a girlfriend or should I set you up?”Â

Emmett: Hey you.
Emmett: Haven't talked to you in a few days.
Emmett: How are things?
Emilie: Yeah, it's been... busy
Emilie: They're good, I'm waiting on Chris to get back to me about my offer to be a business partner with Sugar Rub.
Emilie: Want to meet up for drinks or dinner later?

Granted, Lena Flores was his business partner with Sugar Rub. However, he didn’t know how she’d feel about building it all from the ground up, that maybe taking on yet another business partner could help them in such tragic times. ❝I would personally love that.❞ he said, letting his feelings be known. ❝I mean, I’ve yet to ask my business partner about taking you on, but I’m sure it’ll all come out to be in your favour.❞ He didn’t see any reason why Emilie shouldn’t be onboard, save for the fact that the Royals were heavily connected to the spa as a means of income. ❝Can I at least have some time to talk to Lena about this?❞ Chris asked, wanting to be 100% sure nonetheless.
Hearing his personal opinion towards her offer brought a smile to her face, though once hearing about Lena, she gasped lightly almost feeling stupid. “Oh gosh, of course.” She nodded lightly shaking her head, realizing she’d completely forgotten about the lovely Lena. “That’s sweet of you to say, though really you should discuss with your business partner and let me know.” She smiled gently, before she knew it there was a friend of hers waving at her from the other side of the room. “I’ll leave you with that thought, as I am being summoned by a woman I have been avoiding almost all evening.” She admitted with a small chuckle. Emilie gently kissed Christopher’s cheek as a farewell. “We’ll chat soon, wish me luck.” She smiled before removing herself from his arms and walking towards the overly chatty woman.Â
FINIS.
Is it working? Being in her world? Does it make you feel alive?

Leaning back in kind to meet her features, Chris could hardly contain the touched emotions on his face. ❝Em…❞ Everything she was saying struck deeply. Sure, they were involved in business with Sugar Rub, whilst also being friends, but he never thought that she had that much faith in him. And yet here she was, doing the most by going so far as buying a building to assist him in the rebuild of their business. ❝Are you serious?❞ The insurance money he had with Sugar Rub would be more than enough to cover everything, but it’d take time again to build it all from scratch. Her offer would certainly help him put up the spa much faster, and overall would make everything easier. By then, he had stopped swaying, simply in awe with the lengths she was willing to go to to show her faith in him. ❝I… I can’t believe you’re doing so much. I can’t tell you how grateful I am.❞
His disbelief in her words made her wonder what sort of history he had with getting help from others. When they first met, she knew that he had built Sugar Rub from the group up, though she in part assumed he’d had some help from family, or parents. Witnessing his reaction now, she wondered if her initial assessment was wrong. “Well, you can in fact, how would you feel about calling me your business partner?” She looked at him, wondering what his reply would be. “We could rebuilt Sugar Rub together?”Â

After the event, she felt like she needed to clear her head slightly. She felt this way because of what Preston said to her when they were dancing. In a perfect world, she’d want to tell Emmett, or Aviva though she knew how he’d react and Aviva was too busy. As she walked into the apartment, she didn’t know what kind of conversation they were going to have, but she needed to get this off her chest. As she weighed her options, Aviva was working so hard she didn’t have time, Emmett would lay more stress on her, Christopher was someone else who came to mind. She made her way to his new apartment, having her own tricks of learning where he’d moved to and knocked on the door. Just as the door opened, she dropped her bag on the kitchen counter before going to the extensive bar cart and pouring herself a glass of bourbon. She thew back the first drink, then quickly poured herself one she would sip on, before turning to her friend.Â

❝It’s the kind of surprise I liked ruined anyway.❞ he joked, not wanting her to feel bad for getting ahead of Emmett with the news. ❝Oh, of course.❞ Sugar Rub deserved much more than just being haphazardly placed anywhere. After the branding they built from the ground up, the spa was worth every penny it had to its name now. And while it was true he didn’t have the connections he now had when he was first building her up, now, he had more people willing to lend a helping hand to allow his vision to continue. ❝You’d be willing to do that much for me? For Sugar Rub?❞ he murmured, swaying to the music with Emilie.
With her hand in his, she leaned back gently in order to look at him to keep their conversation going. As he questioned how far she’d go, she looked at him, “Yeah, I would.” she stated without any sense of real hesitation or lack of confidence. “I’m not doing this all to invest into a good company. I’m investing in you.” She clarified, “You’re one of the most hardest working people I know, and all that more impressive you’re close to my age.” She spoke from experience, “I’m not nearly as impressive in comparison to you. I got lucky to be where I am. I’ve maintained the success my parents gave me. You rose from no where.” She explained, wanting to make it clear that despite her amount of wealth, he was far more successful. “You deserve to continue the company, without needing to start over again. You’re not alone this time.” She assured, “So I’m buying you a building, and you can use your insurance to rent, at a friends and family discount.”Â
I love you so much.

Emmett nodded. “I know. And I trust you the same.” He smiled at her. They both held secrets for each other that could change the course of their worlds. He had been watching out for the woman next to him longer than anyone knew. He wouldn’t do anything to jeopardize her safety or well being. “Well you know how I feel about it. I know I can’t stop you. But just think about it ok .” Emmett sighed. “But its your decision ultimately.” He told her realizing he hadn’t always been so open and trusting to her about Preston as he should have been in the past.
The information they hold about her father’s true reason for passing would make many people think either of them was crazy if said out loud. It’s the exact reason she needed evidence to prove the world wrong. As they moved over to Preston, it shocked her that he hadn’t turned her away yet. She told him everything and didn’t even stick around long enough to know if he thought she was crazy. Emilie took a sip as she heard Emmett speak about it, she knew very well Emmett’s opinions about Preston and his place in her life. When he left the decision with her, she turned her head and met his eyes, not really expecting him to say that. “As of now, I don’t know where my place is with Preston. Last we spoke wasn’t... the best.” She explained. “I appreciate you saying that none the less.”Â
