I realised I hadn’t posted the final character animation I did a few months ago based on the ‘Dragons In Places’ podcast. Behold! Barry’s Flem Turindabber - halfling fighter!

I also have a large scale animation in process involving all the characters, but it’s been delayed by some months due to extreme back pain limiting the time I can spend at my computer. However i’m planning to make a last push on it soon, at least to get it to a functional completion, even if it isn’t as detailed as i’d like. Watch this space!

My contributions from the Unprepared Piano exhibition. A piano was dismantled gradually over two weeks, with various artists creating work as it progressed.

These are some of the in-progress pieces from working on these gifs.. 

1. Initial character sketch, next to other characters-in-progress to try and match proportions. 2. Fixed details, lengthened legs. 3. First basic arm-flexing animation movement to warm up. 4. Added guides to help map longer animations (Layers ftw). Sword and hair movements mapped roughly. 5. Hair, sword, and sword-hand details cleaned up, looping frames added. Guides removed. Numbers keep me from getting frames mixed up. 6. Flexing arm slowed down. Final clean up and numbers removed. Huzzah!

I’ve been using the piskel website to draw these, plus a super cheap £30 Wacom. There’s probably better software to animate in, but this Piskel is free and easy to learn. 

All characters are based on Ross O’Donovan’s designs.

This one took me a looong time (I haven’t done any animation since I was a teenager 15 years ago). But I couldn’t resist this classic and deadly windmill-attack by Femur Clavicle in ‘Dragons in Places’...

There are very few feelings like holding the first proof copy of your new book. Getting to see it in the flesh.

Now to read through and make those final fixes before we go live.
