His smile grew a little more genuine as his eyes lingered across the shy smile he had received in response, nodding a little in agreement when she mentioned it was better then being trapped indoors. It was the one thing he hated, being stuck inside, about as much as he hated being cooped up in this town, even if he had nowhere else he could think of to go to. It was more being told he couldn’t leave, making him want to even more, the idea of being forced to stay driving him more stir crazy then it would’ve if the town hadn’t been under quarantine. “Yeah, there’s only so many reruns you can watch or books you can read , I’d rather be in the fresh air doing something.”

“Seems most of us are going stir crazy indoors. Best to not let any doctors know they may lock us up somewhere else.” Emily’s attempt at a joke at his admission about his situation, all in good fun of course because she felt the same. Emily had her days planned out from beginning to end, organized and filled her time till the end of the day whenever she decided to sleep. Maybe it was a little weird she missed her overly planned days but since the quarantine being outside to long seemed like a hassle and a danger. But several weeks indoors was killing her slowly. Like many other she was sure given her new acquaintance. “A stroll is about all we can do sadly, well I shouldn’t say that... The air is light and its not terribly cold. Couple more months and these trails will be more colored with new flowers blossoming from the change in season.”

Aaron had been keeping a low profile more out of habit then anything, before the quiet few days had him going stir crazy and in desperate need to let of some steam. He left the apartment without really thinking on where he was going, feet more leading him for a hike to try and work off some the energy. He was at one of the rest stops, taking a breather when he heard a noise behind him. Smiling, nodding slightly as a greeting, he began to return his attention to the view, “Nice day for it.” he admitted, the weather whilst cold, being quite a nice one to be in the fresh air for once.

A nice walk was all Emily had come for. Something to help keep her mind occupied as television was having no effect on her anymore. The day had been quiet so far and this long walk was working out muscles she forgot she had. She turned her attention to a man she had thought she bothered when she realized she snapped a twig to loudly but she smiled shyly as he spoke to her. “It is.” She agreed adjust her her coat for a second as the wind blew and chilled the air a lttle more around them. “Much better then being trapped in doors.”

Oliver almost continued on his sullen way without looking, but her aborted sentence caught him off-guard, enough to get his attention. He looked up only to find himself face to face with the beautiful bookworm from his very own pizza place so many months ago. Before any of this even started. A small smile appeared on his face; he remembered her, too.

“I–yeah, lost about sums that up right about now, actually.” Oliver answered wryly, shifting on his feet. He could only imagine what she must think of him now. What he couldn’t imagine was why it bothered him at all what she thought. “And that’s sweet of you, but unless you’ve got a genie and some wishes to spare, or maybe a few… dozen bottles of booze in that bag, I’m pretty much beyond help for the time being.”

Oliver took a moment to glance around, looking to see if she was traveling safely with anyone else in these dangerous times; he saw no one. He may have sworn, if he had more energy. “You could let me walk with you, if you’re feeling so inclined. I’d feel a little bit better knowing you weren’t out here all by yourself.”

Emily could see such a dark overcast in his eyes. She could guess he was very pained and how she could tell these things at times she wondered, her observant nature worried her at times. It was like she was prying a bit into him to see what he was thinking without asking. And it felt wrong. But maybe in a way it could be useful to help him but he was not pained physically from whet she could see. Emotional pain between strangers wasn't something a normal person would share.

Suddenly it came to her as she was thinking of him, she didn't even know his name. Neither did he know hers. They had such a small conversation before he had to rush off to fill her order as well as others. She felt awful she hadn't gotten it but once the rain let up she was picked up an had no time to ask or say thank you. She didn't even bother to look for a name tag back then. And now here he was offering her another kindness.

She gave him a small smile, admiring how he was still kindhearted enough to offer to walk with her. "I would appreciate the company greatly." It made her less nervous and gave her something more to focus on then the state of their town. She could feel those emotions ease off her. Guiding her hand up her bags strap again for no reason she offered her name, "My names Emily, Emily Moon. I never properly introduced myself to you before."

Since having his conversation slash unwanted revelation with Mark, Oliver felt nothing like himself. Since he woke up to Izzy’s painfully lifeless corpse earlier in the week, he felt nothing. An unshakable numbness permeated throughout his tense body. Her death hadn’t quite… struck him yet. Isidora Ramos, his other half, his lifeline, his… his world was dead, and it was his fault. More or less. 

The whole situation was all wrong, not just on principle. Something had to have happened to him, maybe even others, too, before the infection rolled into town. This kind of shit didn’t just incubate over night. It had to have come from somewhere, but where was the real question.

That, among other heavy decisions, weighed his mind down as he trudged into downtown Braddock. On one hand, he should tell Izzy’s boss that she wouldn’t be showing up for work… ever again. But on the other hand, he still wasn’t quite ready to face that new reality yet. Or this one, apparently, as he bumped into another passerby on the street. 

“Sorry,” He mumbled… Or did he only think he mumbled it?

Walking around was the most one could do these days, not everything was open in fact most of everything was closed. The farmers market was pretty much desolate and the only spot she could depend on to be open was the library. Nothing distractted her. She wasn’t ever sure why she needed the distraction. There was so much going on around her that didn’t even directly involve her that she could hide away in her home and just be there with her family. After all there was a chance one of them could get sick right? Wouldn’t staying inside be the smarter idea?

Something pulled her thoghts, or well more somone as they bumpd into each other. Emily nearly lost most of her balance but she grabbed it bak and looked up to who she had colided with and quickly went to apologize. But she stopped mid reply seeing the server from the Pizza joint she was at not to long ago. She remembered him being very kind and helping her pick up her books, but that person was not standing in front of her.

She couldn’t tell if he had said something or not but she felt he was trying to express he was sorry no matter how far away he looked, so she smiled politely trying not to show her inner concerns right off the bat. “I-Its okay. “ She said staightening her bag strap that hung from her shoulders out of a nervous habit. “I remember you--” She wanted to say it was good to see him again but she retracted that idea as they only met once breifly and mostly about her silly flower book, so she decided to ask the obvious question and bite her nervous bullet. “Are you alright? You seem....lost. Is there something I can do?”

“Catalogues, sure — “ Griff scuttled a few meters away to grab some thin pamphlets from a rack by the front desk. “So these are for the general public. Urns, caskets, markers, yknow, if you feel like browsing that … Got some industry catalogues in my office if you’d like to see those later — actually, we’ve been discussing replacing all our crematories with a newer line. …Uh, for a couple years, but. You can weigh in.” He gave Emily an honest, pure grin as if it were a fun offer. 

“But we can drop by the viewing rooms first! We’ve got two, they’re kind of the same —” he led her to the first one and propped the door open. It was well lit and mostly empty, the chairs stacked up against the walls. “Hope this is your first time seeing it,” Griff joked, then grimaced slightly at how bad that was. 

“A couple years huh?” She smiled brightly, the idea of being apart of the decisions was welcoming. She would have to dedicate more research to learning the ins and outs in the funeral business to hopefully help make a proper decision. She held the catalogs close and looked around the viewing room giving a soft chuckle to Griff’s joke, “Thankfully it is.” She wasn’t sure how appropriate it was of her but she found some humor in what he was joking about. Dar humor wasn’t a bother to her. Most of the times.

“The viewing rooms a lovely.” She commented happy to know there wasn’t much of a difference it would be easier for her to work in similar backgrounds. She looked around the room an assumed it would not be used till the disease was cleared and the bodies were safe for burial. “I assume we won’t be using them much...” She said mainly referring to the way the bodies of the deceased were possibly being disposed of, she was sure the fear of the disease affected them in that regard.

“Put your hands up!” Madeline kept her gun steady and her eyes on the people in front of her. She didn’t want trouble, but the person behind her needed help. Madeline wasn’t going to stand by and watch a “hunting party” commit murder while they searched for the carriers of the infection. All they were basing their information on was rumors. Sure, Madeline used the rumors as a hunch and ideas to start her search for them, but she certainly wasn’t going to murder someone in cold blood based on the whispers. “Put the weapon down and walk away or I will shoot. Now!” Madeline took in a deep breath and waited to see what would happen next.

Emily had no idea what possessed her to go looking for her brother, but she wanted to find him before curfew. She knew he would be fine but it was getting later and she felt someone had to ind him. Instead she was met with a hunting group and her imediate reaction was to run for the hills. She didn’t gt very far, they yelled at her accusing her of being sick of a carrier.She was too scared to verbalize her innocence but thankfully she wasn’t the only one out tonight. Someone had stepped between her and the hunting group. Emily was shaking like a leaf, surprised some of the people who were so determined to catch her had actually stopped. She felt so cowardice hiding behind someone else who had come to her rescue but Emily was only now starting to realize her shortness of breath may not altogether be from her running, her hands were starting to shake as well. And all th sudden the world felt like it was getting further away. “No no no...” She was having a panic attack. She couldn’t tell if that was helping the situation with the people infront of her, she could make them out now. She needed to focus on something else to keep grounded.

Seeing the young woman inside clearly startled by Charlie’s presence made the hacker feel a twinge of guilt. “Thanks,” fae practically whispered with a grateful grin on faer lips. Water continued to drip off faer clothing and hair as fae stood in the other’s doorway. Both of faer arms wrapped around faer small frame in attempt to warm faerself. The sudden stream of questions overwhelmed Charlie momentarily. “Um- uh, yeah,” escaped faer lips as fae tried to comprehend all of the questions just asked. “I’m yeah, uh, I just don’t like storms much…uh new clothes, uh, yeah this is all I have, so if you don’t mind. Oh, yeah, tea is good. Uh, I’m Charlie by the way.”

Emily smiled as she moved away from Charlie a bit, “I’m Emily. “ She turned and gestured for faer to follow her. Just beyond the kitchen and living room was a small closet next to one of the few bathrooms in the house. Emily pulled out a small towel so Charlie could dry faer hair. “I’m sorry I bombarded you with questions, I do that sometimes when nervous.” She paused reflecting on her bad habits. “Oh, I’ll be right back I should get you some clothes so you don’t catch a cold.” Emily moved quickly to the upper level of the house and in a few short moments brought back a pair of pajama pants, and t-shirt, and one of many hoodies she tended to wear around the house. “I hope these fit I tend to buy them a size bigger so their more open and comfortable.” She explained smiling politely. “We can put your clothes in our dryer so their ready whenever this freak weather decides to let up.” Emily placed the clothes on the counter next to the sink so faer could have some privacy as she changed.

If it weren’t for the fact that all of faer siblings were here, the hacker would be looking for a way out. This town was absolute shit. But, instead, fae was spending all faer time in between the archives, home, and running errands for faer siblings. Just as fae was walking back home after a late night at the archives before the town mandated curfew, it began to pour. At first it had been a light trickle, but then it turned into a full blown thunderstorm. One boom of thunder nearly caused Charlie to jump out of faer skin. Although fae hated to admit it, fae was very rattled by storms. Without that, fae reached for every door until fae could take refuge. Panting, fae slammed the door behind faer and looked up at the other person in the room. “S-Sorry the door was…not locked and it’s, you know, cats and dogs, uh, raining. Could I just, like, hide out here till it passes? I promise I’m not infected or anything.”

Emily’s mother had left with her father to console a friendin town who had sadly lost their already ill mother to the Braddock Plague, hermother said they would not be back in time before the curfew and would stay home.It was a good they made that decision as the rain outside had not subsided andonly seemed to be escalating. Emily took the time before the storm got too badto make some tea for herself as her brother had locked himself in his room forthe night. As Emily was crossing from the kitchen to the living room with herwarm cup of tea she was startled by the sound of her door slamming and greetedby someone she did not know but from fear broken speech fear seemed startled.At first Emily was at a loss for words just starring at fear then finallygained some composure albeit a nervous stutter, “O-oh um….I couldn’t s-send youback out in that.” She said turning to the small table in that sat in the hallnear the front door. Looking out the windows of her front door she could see ithad started to be more of a storm then before, she smiled at her new houseguest. Fear seemed shaken and it was a feeling Emily knew well. “Uh…are-areokay? You seem shaken. D-do you need something warmer to put on? If yourclothes are wet you shouldn’t linger in them to long. Um…Do you like tea?”

There wasn’t much to choose from at any of the grocery stores these days, but he was poking around the aisles anyway for lack of something better to do between curfews. He had never been so thrilled to find ramen and bottled water in his life, but he could feel eyes on him when he reached for the case of the latter. There was a split second where he wanted to just shove it into his basket and move on, but then the guilt set in, brushing away that impulse. “You take it.” He said, nodding towards the person he was sharing the aisle with. “Seriously, I don’t need it or anything. It’s fine.” That was a lie, if the CDC was to be believed about the state of the water coming out of his tap at home, but he wasn’t going to admit to it when someone else might need that water more than he did, bumbling around his far too large apartment all day. “I saw some ready meals a few aisles back too, if you were looking for something like that.”

Emily’s mind drifted as she thought on all that was going on, there were curfews now and people taking justice into their own hands. The town was a mess. Her mother had asked her to go into town and see if she could procure some more bottles water for them but there was little to be found. She snagged what she could from the small fridges they kept up front near the cashiers then wondered around hoping to find something else they might need. She ended up starring at some ramen thinking back to the last time she had any, it was a small and fond memory of her and her brother eating some outside on their porch during winter. She was almost confused when she was addressed, she hadn’t noticed the other before. Until the end of his sentence she was very confused on what he was offering until she realized he was after the ramen himself. “Oh no! No, no, please I wasn’t...I was just merely starring off...” She felt guilty that she was keeping him from his purchase and smiled politely. “Thank you, but please don’t let me stop you I’ll get one of those ready meals.”

Ethan was about to tell the woman off as she questioned his involvement with the bar fight, but instead he decided to do the whole answering a question, with a question kind of method. “You look like a smart girl. What do you think?” His lips curled into a devilish smile as he held the bottle up like he was doing a toast. “And if I were to be the reason of it, what are you going to do? And why do you care? You don’t own the bar right? It shouldn’t matter to you anyways.”

The advice she had given him made the shapeshifter chuckle lowly as he continued to chug the alcohol down. “This is soothing for the soul.” he retorted back, before making eye contact with her. “You sure you’re not a doctor or a nurse?” he rhetorically asked, knowing that the woman already made it clear that she wasn’t. At the mention of going in hiding, Ethan pondered on the idea before shrugging in response. “I’ll hide when I want to and besides, you found me and yet, here you are not going to authorities. Why is that?”

“I never said I cared, it was merely an attempt to see if you were involved.” Well suspicion confirmed. She guessed if anything she got out of this it was his involvement in everything. She had no plans on reporting them though, one bottle and a bar fight was the least of the towns worries. There was enough panic going around that starting some more with something as pointless as petty theft seemed like a waste of the police department times. She cared a little bit about the situation but there were some light heads on staff she was sure, no police sirens were heard at the moment.

While Emily could argue the soul was eternal she would like to remind him the body is not and you only get one. She’ll keep her mouth shut though, if getting drunk somehow made him feel better then she guessed there wasn’t much else she could do here. “Does the fact that I found you not concern you?” It was an honest question as she would have been terrified if someone had discovered a secret like this. As to the question about why she hadn’t said anything all she could do was bite her lip and answer. “You don’t look like you would stay there. I fear you would run the second your nurse left your bedside.” She didn’t feel she was too wrong on that. “And if that’s true I feel its pointless.”

The woman’s response didn’t make sense at first. Ethan expected those who attend bars at this time to mind their own business and get pissed drunk or live in the fucking moment. Yet here she was, pointing out all his actions whether it be stealing a bottle of alcohol or the effects of the disease and he was not impressed. “You could have just lied to whoever you’re with or just left without them knowing—they’re fucking drunk after all or if they were your friends, they would have been understanding.” He sighed while shaking his head in disappointment, before continuing, “…Either way I shouldn’t have been the reason for your departure because you technically should’ve mind your own business.” 

The shapeshifter ran a hand through his hair before glancing down at the bottle in hand and taking another sip of it. Ethan still couldn’t grasp what was up with half of these women in the town and their need for helping someone like him? There was Andy, then Lourdes, and now this woman…He just couldn’t catch a break. “Isn’t it obvious?” he replied to her comment with a low chuckle. However, he sort of regrets the action as he began to let out some raspy coughs. “—Ah fuck.” he murmured before clearing his throat. After a few seconds of trying to regain his composure, the older man side glanced the woman and said, “Congratulations Captain Obvious, so you’re aware of what I have, as well as the fact that I don’t need help. Go home, prevent yourself from becoming the next fucked up mess.” 

“I would be with them if I were able to navigate through a bar fight successfully. However given my height and lack of fighting skills I would just get myself hurt. Did you happen to be a reason for that?” Most of her was wanting to be smart but it was also the fact that she was sure he had done it to get away with his bottle. She watched him cough for a moment tilting her head a bit and wondered how much longer he had before he hit the next stage. Or how long he had before he was caught by someone involved with the quarantine or maybe just someone who had a big mouth. She looked down for a moment then back up to him, she wanted to say something to the ‘fucked up mess comment but she wasn’t sure what she should say now. The only reason she was here was because she didn’t want to see someone suffering again. It already broke her heart before, though he was slightly deterring her caring so much the way he talked to her but she was sure that was mainly because he was upset. She couldn’t fault him for his reasons as his aggression was directed at her, people had different ways of handling pain and situations. Hers was more cowardice then abrasive.

“You really should be drinking something more soothing to the throat. “ She advised though she knew by now it would fall on deaf ears, she still felt to give genuine advise seeing as he would need to do that soon anyway. Maybe by saying so he would implant the necessary function to take care of himself. At some point. She must seem so stubborn right now but if she were being honest she couldn’t help but want to show compassion and kindness to someone who was suffering. “Or at least try hiding. Someone else could find you and they will actually report you to the officials.”

Carmen’s facial expression softened a bit as she listened to the other girl ramble. She held her hand up to silence the woman. “Calm down.” she shouted far louder than she meant to. She hadn’t expected to find anyone else up here. She wanted it to just be her and the mountain yet here this woman was, making things more dangerous for the both of them. Having one person on the mountain was scary enough, you never knew what kind of games it would play on you. But two people? It’s like they were just asking to be in some sicker version of the last round of The Hunger Games. “Are you lost? Why are you up here?” she asked in a calmer voice. “You shouldn’t be up here.” she said hearing another sound off in the distance. She quickly turned her head around. trying to see if she could find the source of the noise in the darkness. “Shhhh.” she said quickly as she shined her flashlight around. Apparently Carmen wasn’t as alone as she thought she was, neither was the other person. “Did you hear that?” 

Emily calmed down or at least stopped talking when she was told to. She didn’t mind really as she was rambling and it was probably bad for her to do so. “I-I don’t know I was wondering about the forest by the mountain and I thought I’d...see what everyone always talks about when it comes to it. I was just wandering...” Unexpectedly wandering into a wood set area that she hadn’t meant to, almost like she was hypnotized. She wondered if the story of the woods taking people worked something like this but she didn’t want to figure it out she was just ready to leave. She paused when the other seemed to hear something but Emily did not pick it up at first. It wasn’t until a second noise echoed through out the trees that she became on edge covering her mouth from a gasp that threatened to escape her lips. “Wh-what was that?” She asked in a hush whisper. “C-can you see anything?”

Helping someone pick a stack of books that you’d just tripped over up off of a rain-damp floor was not really the best way to judge someone’s character, but Mark decided he liked this girl anyway. She seemed quiet and quiet wasn’t something he got a lot of lately. He also appreciated that she’d offered him a hand up even though he hadn’t truly needed it. It was a kind gesture.

Mark loosed another grin in her direction. “I wouldn’t say it’s not exciting. Some of the best adventures happen without ever leaving your seat. Besides, I’ve been doing the same thing.” He motioned vaguely behind him at the booth he’d vacated where a stack of his own books sat waiting for his return. “Did you get anything good? I’m Mark, by the way.”

“Well besides the few boring ones in the pile there might be a few interesting ones.” Emily couldn’t just read books with information and what not all the time. She enjoyed escaping into the world’s created by talented writers. Emily was found of fantasy mostly as well as mystery. “I’m Emily, pleasure to meet you Mark. Well if you count assassins earning their freedom and a small town mystery exciting then I am certainly going to be on a few adventures tonight.  ”

She enjoyed the idea of adventuring in her mind, knowing she wasn’t the only here on this rainy day doing so was reassuring that books hadn’t gotten lost in today's technology. “What kind of adventures have you been planning on escaping to?”

“Alright! — Griff is fine,” he said with a smile. “So… you know this office. Probably where you’re gonna spend most of your time. Database stuff. Helping out Irene. It’s not as boring as it sounds, Irene’s the best.” He shot her a thumbs up which she returned, and ushered Emily towards the hall. 

“The viewing rooms are down here, all pretty similar — we might ask you to set some flowers or do some tidying once in a while.” Griff led her through main foyer, stopping briefly to motion at the large entryway. “Right. This is the foyer, which I assume you came through… Remind me to give you the back code later… …That’s the chapel.” He turned again and gestured at the wide wooden doors halfway down the hall, then rested his hands on his hips, apparently out of steam in less than three minutes. “Yep. So we can take a look at any of these, or the basement. We’ve got closets. The morgue. Other rooms.” 

“Girff.” She said to finish her sentence and to of course test the name out, she nodded to Irene as she was ushered into the rest of the funeral home. The funeral home was rather lovely, very professional and organized which was something she liked very much. She wasn’t quiet as eager to go to the morgue though she was sure there’s wasn’t a body on the table, Irene had informed her there might not be till the matter of the illness is solved. 

“I’d like to take a look at the chapel and viewing rooms seeings as I would be working there. Um should I review catalogs or something?” She wanted to be sure in case she should need to discuss caskets and flower arrangements.

When she agreed to get away from the crowd, he relaxed a bit. With school back in session, the coffee shops were all flushed with people, which set him on edge at times. Being in a more secluded area would allow him to relax and enjoy his company. So, he found a small table in the back that was far quieter than the front of the business. “I’m doing well,” he chuckled lightly at the question. “How about yourself? Enjoying a new semester of classes?”

“Yes! Finally something to do that’s productive.” Emily needed something to do and while working part time had its benefits she kind of missed toying in paperwork and studies of her classes. “I am probably the most boring person on the planet for enjoying it so much. “ She couldn’t help but feel that way, she wasn’‘t sure she had met someone who loved school as much. “How about you?”
