How To Write A Press Release-
A press release is one of the best ways for organisations to generate publicity on a subject. This is usually done on a newspaper or magazine etc. There are a variety of reasons to write one; announcing launch of new service, unveiling new product etc. It informs the media about something relevant or something people may want to know about. Being able to write one is a useful ability. To be successful you need to make it interesting, informative and concise.
Who are you writing for?
What have you got to say?
How are you going to say it?
Where are you going to send it?
Write the lead(first sentence or two) to grab attention, the informative introduction paragraph must provide most important information so can understand point after a quick skim through, answer the five w’s (who, what, where, when, why) and use solid facts, provide information on your organisation, when writing the headline include most important information but concise.
Five main elements;
Headline-creative/quirky.
Opening sentence-make people want to read more.
Opening paragraph-sum up.
Middle bit-quotes, background information, details.
Concluding paragraph-call to attention, who to contact.

Risk Assessments-
What is the ‘HSE’? Stands for Health and Safety executive, they are authority issuing guidance on how to complete risk assessments. Industry guidlines are set and then businesses/individuals are assessed to see if the guidelines are being followed properly.
Step one- Look at the hazards.
Make a note of all the possible hazards in your area of work. See what can cause harm.
Step two- Decide who might be harmed and how.
Look at each hazard. Note how someone can be harmed, the likelihood of it happening, the severity of the injury/ill health, look at precautions in place(which are your controlled measures).
Step three- Evaluate the risks.
Look at the controlled measures and assess if they are adequate enough. Are there any additional measures you need to add?

Planning for the conference.
Once the Symposium event was over, we had to begin thinking about plans for the student conference. This would be an event involving students from different areas around the College, all coming together to show something that they do. We decided to do more with our Water and Dreams project as it felt over far too quickly. We decided to show some of the work we produced for that brief and we were very interested in seeing more of other people’s responses to it. We set up an online task that we wanted to get as much people involved as possible.
Using the Hashtag; ‘pcawateranddreams’ we asked people to take a photo of something to them, that relates to Water and Dreams. From working with the students in India, we were mostly surprised about how different their outcomes for the brief were, compared to ours. Therefore, we wanted more of this and to try reach out to other countries to get their responses. To give people a little incentive, we made it a competition by announcing whoever received the most likes on their image would receive a £10 Amazon Gift voucher. We tried to set up time slots for people’s friends to post theirs, so we had a constant flow of images throughout the day. Not many people around me have Instagram accounts, so it was hard to convince them to join in with this.
I wish the conference fell on a better date and day as it was hard to help out with the event due to having a part time job. As setting up the event landed on a Monday which I usually work, I was unable to come in to help with that. The conference itself landed on a Tuesday which is another day I tend to work, it is a busy time period at the moment too, so impossible to get the time off. So unfortunately, my only way of helping this event was visiting lots of different charity shops in the City Centre with James, Tamsin, and Jade. We had to select particular items to use for props. Another idea that we decided to do was have a photo set up at the conference, so people there can use those props and lighting set up for their image if they wanted too. We looked for shiny and bright bits of material, glass bowls, fish, ducks, and boats. We also tried to find some decorative sand in art shops but was unsuccessful with that. We managed to get most of our list however, which we were happy with.
Taking down the symposium.
This was my set up for my images. I stuck 6x8 images onto an A2 black foamboard. I originally had 9 images, they would of been in groups of three, but the print size I wanted was too big to fit them all on. I therefore grouped them in pairs, all different in their own way but work collectively together as their underwater theme.
After the Symposium and video making, we left the exhibition set up for about an hour. We then took down the images, followed by the lighting. Other people began unscrewing the screws that kept the boards together with an allen key. As there was only two of these, it was not possible for everyone to help with this task. Me and James decided to be useful rather than just stand there and take all the lighting and extension leads back to ERC, as well as a borrowed Mac to the IT department. By the time we got back, the rest of the team had successfully taken down all boards and returned them to the warehouse. With all the volunteers, this task didn’t take long at all which meant an early finish to the day.
