he’d be lying if he said he didn’t notice the way she reacted - the way he’d seemingly pulled her from the clouds & the way she seemed to pause as if she could ignore him. they both knew she couldn’t ignore him. he took a few steps forward once she turned to him ( not ignoring the defensive way she crossed her arms ) so that he was still a few steps from her, but close enough to smell the familiar perfume she’d wore for as long as he could remember. he offered a smile, though he wasn’t entirely sure if he was deserving of getting one back. he’d left, again. something he’d once promised her he’d never do & later found himself doing more often than he liked - though sometimes at her own wish.

❝ there’s something that will always bring me back here. ❞
she bit her bottom lip as she looked away, shaking her head just a little. it was clockwork with them; he’d come back into her life, she’d put up a wall, he’d knock it down and everything was good, she would be HAPPY. then all that would be gone in a blink of an eye. sometimes their roles would switch and she would be the one to leave. each time she’d hope that things would be different, even convince herself of it. each time was better than before and god, she was so head over heels for him.
❛ hm, yeah i must have been. someone else who i thought was different. ❜
her head was tilted ever so slightly, arms still folded across her body. her eyes flickered up and down at him, six months time had changed his appearance slightly not much but she could tell the differences.
❛ what do you want, carter? ❜
