“I don’t think you’ve ever listened to anyone in your entire life.”
“I’m not sure that’s any of your business.”
ameliascones:
“A worthy cause. Though hardly more interesting, especially when it seems I’m getting flyers and invitations to those sorts of banquets at least bi-yearly.”
“Don’t worry, you won’t be seeing an invitation to mine. It’s a rather private affair.”
elliedowson:
“Alas, I didn’t, which whilst disappointing for you, I’m sure, teaches a valuable lesson. Do you see the muddle and confusion that can be caused when we put words in other’s mouths rather than listening to what they say?”
“If you think I’m actually going to listen to you then you’re really wasting your breath.”
ameliascones:
“A hands-on educational program for underprivileged girls, transcending gender-based roles and putting women in a place of power.” She was teaching the neighbor’s daughter how to whittle.
“Interesting. Not as interesting as hosting a banquet with all proceeds going towards St. Mungos for research and relief of all patients. You might want to try expanding your horizons.” Emma raised an eyebrow, daring Amelia to try and outdo her. Even though Emma wasn’t hosting a banquet at all. She was collecting money from her parents closest friends while they were over for dinner and donating it to St. Mungos in her own name.
griermckinnon:
“What part of this felt like I wanted to be comforting?”
“I stand by what I said.”
ameliascones:
“How wonderful. Me? I’m perfectly fulfilled. I’ve even begun a new volunteer project.”
“Oh yes, and what’s the project?”
ameliascones:
“And I’m moving on. How are you, Emma?”
“I’ve never been better, Amelia. My life is going along just to my plan. How are you?”
ameliascones:
“I’m not going to sit here and argue accolades with you, Emma. It’s childish.” It took every ounce of strength she had not to bite back with a sour retort on her own career advancements and how she, unlike her counterpart, wasn’t hired because her father owned half the business. Whatever remaining stores of energy she had went to not flinching at the cruel sting of truth in Emma’s words. She was older. She hadn’t been a Junior Representative. What was she doing?
“Childish? You’re the one who broached the subject, I’m merely laying out the facts for you.”
ameliascones:
“It isn’t a threat.”
“Were you the one selected for the Wizengamot Youth Representative? I don’t recall you being on that at all.”
“Besides, you’re a few years older than me, and the fact that you even believe use to be on a level playing field when you’ve had the chance longer than I have means you’ve already lost.”
iolucius:
“I think making sure the name fits the child is the most important thing. I wouldn’t want to give a big name to a small child, or vice versa.”
“And you need to give the proper name for what their future may hold. No one wants a politician named Doug.”
elliedowson:
“Why don’t you tell me, since you’re so keen to put words in other people’s mouths.”
“You said, I’m leaving, this was a nice chat, but I’ve got to go!”
8bitpeter:
“I’m not interested in starting an argument. Just thought you might have gotten dressed in a rush is all.”
“And I’m not interested in your opinion, and yet, there you are, giving it anyway.”
griermckinnon:
“I don’t want to further upset you, but that’s clearly not true. Denial won’t make you feel better.”
“You’re as shite as I am at this comfort thing.”
ameliascones:
“I’m happy you’re not a purposeless slacker. It’ll make it mean something more when I make it onto the WIzengamot before you.”
“You’re the least threatening thing I’ve ever experienced.”
griermckinnon:
“I don’t know about the entire career thing. In my experience no one can make you feel lesser or incompetent without your consent. You lose some, but you can always win more. Sometimes it’s about the league, not the match.”
“I never lose. Ever.”
ameliascones:
“I regret that I have to say it, but no, Emma. I haven’t.”
“Good. Then at least you have finally caught on.”
ameliascones:
“So the mispronunciation was purposeful then?”
“Of course it was. Have you ever known me to do anything without purpose?”
