Mason chuckled at that, gracing her with another smile. "I will have to keep that in mind." He leaned in, just a bit, to say softly, "I've been told I'm insufferable as well." They were made for each other. It was such a strange, novel thought, one he may not have considered otherwise--but it felt apt. Right.
He chalked it up to the euphoria he felt tonight.
His finger stroked against hers, breaking his gaze from Emma's face to study their hands a moment, then he glanced back to the bar. The harried owner looked furious at the mishaps so far. Just what would push him over the edge?
The opportunity, Mason realized, had arrived.
With a small movement of a finger, the shelf behind the bar cracked with a resounding noise, sending bottles crashing, spirits spilling.
"A waste of good alcohol," Mason noted, clicking his tongue against his teeth as he shook his head. "Bad luck."
â˝ Emma âž
"Pity the one who tries to argue with both of us then." Emma wore the cheekiest grin, truly feeling lighter than she had in a long time. And she knew it wasn't the drinking; it was Mason, and the way just his touch made her whole body tingle with delight.
As his eyes shifted away, she knew what he was doing. But she only turned to look at the crash, along with every other person in the place. But unlike the others, Emma turned back to look at Mason, then dropped her head to as she kept her laughter quiet for the time being. Not to hide the joy from Mason, but to keep suspision off them. "What a shame..." She squeaked out, her words laced with laughter..
Casey couldn't help rolling her eyes. "Well duh. Magic stuff. I meant what kind of magic stuff." Obviously. "Like herbs or candles and shit. I don't know. You're the magic person."
She took another mouthful of spaghetti, nodding along while Emma explained. "Like, spells already primed and ready to go?" Casey stopped eating to wipe up the sauce she'd accidentally smeared on her chin. "Cause that'd be real helpful."
â˝ Emma âž
"Okay, didn't mean to be vague. But I'll show you some protection spells, teach you some sigils, symbols and how and when to use them."
Emma spun her fork softly in the spaghetti, collecting a tidy-enough portion.
"Well, uh, we both know that sometimes on a job you don't have time to mess around. After I teach you some basics, you and I can make up a kit for you, nothing crazy while you're just learning, but enough to keep you protected and kicking ass. Cool?"
"One more! One more!"
Of course Casey knew it was all for a big show, no one actually being hurt. And she wasn't even really all that mad about the incident resulting in her black eye. Caught up in the moment, Casey shouted,
"Body slam!"
â˝ Emma âž
Once more, she picked up the much shorter Meyer- who was laughing more than she was hurt; then brought her back down from a little less height. Sparrow collided with the bed with an 'ooooff' followed by laughter as she reached out to frantically tap out against Emma's arm.
Emma chuckled as she took a step back. "Fine, fine. I'll stop." Then she peered over at Casey. "How's the eye feeling?"

Casey blocked the door, not that she thought she could stop Sparrow if she ran in her direction. Maybe tackle her or something. She was small, but sturdy. She'd put more than a few demons and vampires on their backs.
But, as it turned out, it was unnecessary.
When Emma body-slammed Sparrow onto the bed, she cheered and pumped her fist. "Fuck yeah! FUCK YEAH!"
â˝ Emma âž
Sparrow both groaned and awkwardly laughed as she rolled onto her side on the bed. But Emma wasted no time, scooping her sister back up and dropping her down with another thud. Â Emma looked over at Casey, a smirk on her lips.
âAlright, Casey- whatâs fair? One more?â
Casey smiled her appreciation. Didn't have to tell her twice. She was up in a moment, and had her plate piled high with pasta and two pieces of bread. Back in her seat, she tucked into her food without a second's hesitation. She barely even glanced up when Emma vanished. There had been a time when seeing someone vanish or poof away would've surprised the hell out of her. Now such things hardly fazed her.
It didn't take long for her to finish one piece of bread and start on the other. For a time, she focused just on eating, but when she finally felt like she wasn't starving to death she asked,
"What stuff?"
â˝ Emma âž
âMagic stuff. Spells and the like. Like things that travels well and have easier-to-obtain supplies. Or small enough to carry around. Back when we were on the road, I kept a box in the truck with my spell ingredients in it.â
Sure, she was younger then, and it was more of a tackle box than anything, but it easily blended in with the other tools in the back of the truck. Which helped when they had tried to keep her magic side under wraps.
Emma sat down with her own plate and started to pick away at her dinner.
He found it a shame that she'd kept so much of herself hidden. Of course, Mason could say the same of himself, but his thoughts weren't for himself tonight.
Mason said nothing right away, but kept watch on Emma's face, watching the change in her expression--the blush, the smile, how her eyes sparkled. His thumb caressed hers with gentle back and forth motion before he placed another kiss to her knuckles.
"Happiness looks better on you," he told her, smiling. His hand gave hers another tiny squeeze. "But I won't argue."
â˝ Emma âž
âGood choice, Iâve been told I am insufferable in an argument.â Emma teased lightly, her fingers gave his hand the softest of squeezes as she relished in the warmth and sensations that coursed through her.Â
Her free hand brought her bottle to her lips, and she finished off the last of her current bottle of beer. As soon as she set the empty bottle down, her fingers sought out and trailed along the wrist of the hand that already held hers.

Casey had never been super fast but she raced through the house, taking corners at breakneck speed, leaping over discarded toys with ease.
She burst into the room to see Emma and Sparrow facing off. Mildly out of breath--fuck she needed to cut back on cigarettes--Casey blocked the doorway.
"Get 'er! Kick her ass!"
â˝ Emma âž
Although Sparrow thought Casey's distraction would deter Emmaâs attention, it did not. But that didnât stop her from trying to push past her. But one of them had spent years grappling. The other hadnât. Emmaâs arms quickly grabbed Sparrow by the middle; she lifted her with little effort. Despite all Sparrowâs wiggling and protests, Emma body-slammed her younger sister into the bed.
Still not wanting to interrupt Lisa, CJ was content to watch as she gathered more paints. She made a face when the girl handed her an assortment of paints. Chuckling, she set them aside with the others.
Her brow furrowed as she tried to envision what Lisa pictured then shrugged. "Why not? Let's put in some rose bushes."
âLisaâ
âI also have spooky spiders. Not real ones. Theyâre plastic. But we could plant them so they stick out against the black.â
Little feet thumped against the floor as she ran to another play drawer, taking out a handful of little plastic decorations sheâd gotten around Halloween. As she got back to CJ, she opened up her hands to show her. âSpoooooky.â She said in what her mother called her gremlin voice. âBut theyâd be all invisible.â
