Alice couldn’t even remember how she got here. After she had finished her day at the Ministry she had just walked out and here legs had carried her straight to the Leaky Cauldron and before she even realized where she was she had sat down ordered a drink. As her drink arrived she noticed a familiar face next to her. “I’ve had a horrid week, what’s your excuse?”
With one of the toughest weeks in Emmeline’s career finally starting to die down, she had decided to stop in past the Leaky Cauldron on her travels for a quick drink before she would head home for the night. Sitting at the bar, she was staring down in to the bottom of her glass when she heard a familiar voice from just beside her. Looking up to see Alice, she offered her a small smile. “Mostly the same, I’d say. That, and it seemed like a good idea at the time when I ended up in here.”

Mary was really staring at nothing. She did that a lot after what happened to her. The phantom thoughts lingered against her skin, threatening to send her into a spiral again. She always thought she moved on but maybe she was just pretending. Why else was she so jumpy. Her head never made sense. She was lost in her head, thoughts swirling around and around. She could drown in her thoughts. She blinked and shook herself out of her trance. Her eyes caught another’s, and Mary instinctively took a step back. “Sorry. Sorry if I was staring. I didn’t mean too.”
Emmeline offered Mary a warm smile and a small shake of her head. She had been on her travels when she happened upon the younger woman and had just wanted to make sure that she was okay when she saw that she was seemingly staring in to space. She hadn’t meant to startle Mary when she eventually caught her attention, but she didn’t want to interrupt whatever thoughts were going through her mind at the time. “It’s alright, you weren’t staring. There’s no need to apologise. I saw you and just wanted to see if you were alright..”

A small smile was brought to his lips at the sight of Emmeline. The two of them definitely weren’t the best of friends, but Remus knew her from the Order. She was a well known Auror and Remus had a lot of respect for her. Although she looked absolutely exhausted, he was sure she had been working non-stop since the news had hit, a pang of sympathy washed over him as he began to realize just how hard Ministry employees must be taking the news.
Picking up his belongings, Remus slid over to the chair across from Emmeline. “You alright?” He questioned as he settled, “Not to be rude, but you look absolutely exhausted. Moody’s got you working overtime, I assume?” The Auror office seemed to always be quite busy, but with the death of somebody as important as a past Minister, Remus could only imagine how hectic everything was. “Need anything? Water, Firewhiskey? A nap? Chocolate?” He wasn’t sure if any of those things would be helpful, but he desperately wanted to make sure Emmeline was taking care of herself and offered anything he could think of that might be of some use to her.
With a welcoming smile, Emmeline sat up somewhat when Remus moved over to the chair across from her, reaching down to move her satchel over to allow him a little more room at the same time. Had it been anyone else telling her that she looked exhausted, she may have taken offense, but she knew Remus well enough to know that he meant well by it. “Yeah, I’m alright. Or I will be, eventually.” She replied with a small chuckle before continuing. “We’ve barely had the chance to stop since the news broke out, it’s just been chaos.” She explained with a small nod. Moody ran a tight ship at the best of times, but with such a high profile case, it only meant that the entire department, it’s boss included, had to work ten times harder.
“Honestly, all of the above sounds perfect right about now.” Emmeline replied with a smile, appreciative Remus’ obvious concern. They may not have been very close, but she had always known him to be extremely kind towards anyone who needed it, and she was grateful to be offered the same kindness. “But chocolate would be amazing, if you happened to have some on you.”
a-box-of-hope:
The thought of war was very far off from her secret garden and she rather liked it that way. Death and destruction, the anger that clouded the air only suffocated her and at least here she could breathe. Many people would say that Pandora was naive, ignoring the war when it loomed closer but living in a rose tinted world where she could protect her friends with cabbages and a cup of tea, it was a far better world. Pandora loved visitors, she loved making them feel welcomed with a warm cup of tea and some sponge cake that she always had. “So what brings you over to my humble abode. Can’t just be for a quick visit. You haven’t visited for ages and one usually doesn’t show up unannounced, not that I mind. I love it.” Her fingers tapped against the wooden gate, waiting for a response.
It wasn’t like Emmeline to just turn up on anyone’s doorstep unannounced, she had been taught much better than that, but with the events of the last few days she was completed frazzled, and in a snap decision she had decided that she needed the company of someone she knew she could rely on being kind to her. She would quite easily dare anyone to try to find anyone more welcoming than Pandora, and today she hoped that she had made the right decision, even if she knew she would have to apologise for it. “I know, I’m so sorry for just turning up out of the blue like this... But truth be told, I’m really just in the need of some kind company, and you were the first person I thought of.” Emmeline explained with a small nod as she rocked back and forth on her heels slightly. “If you’re busy, or it’s too much bother, I’ll easily go though. I should have let you know I was coming.”

He’d been sitting here for a while now - about an hour to be exact, if Moody’s clock was right, and it usually was - and he was starting to get pretty irritated. Not only had he had time to smoke an entire cigar, and ash it all over Alastor’s desk, he’d also managed to get into, and drink a fair amount of, his good scotch, and still…no Alastor. Emmeline would have to do. Of course, she wasn’t in her office either, and he didn’t see her anywhere else, so he made for the doors the long way, meandering through a department he shouldn’t have been allowed this much freedom in and sliding things into his pockets all the while.
A few hallways into his journey he found her, and for half a second, she looked so frazzled that he nearly kept walking… but he stayed where he was, amused grin and all when he finally had her attention.
“Clearly,” he said. “But I saw you… tsk, tsk, not the sharpest are you? Don’t worry, our little secret. I won’t tell anyone I snuck up on an auror. But you’re gonna owe me. Where’s your boss?”
The familiar voice of Cassius Avery was more than enough to make her want to roll her eyes. As if she didn’t already have enough on her plate today, this pain in the ass decided that today would be the perfect day to drop by the Auror office unannounced for all she knew. More often or not, he would visit to see Alastor, so the fact that he was creeping up on her told her that her mentor currently couldn’t be found - which his words would later confirm.
“Well done, Mister Avery. It’s great to see that you still have eyes that work.” Emmeline replied as she folder her arms in front of herself, clearly not in any humour to deal with his teasing. “If you can’t already tell, we are little more than busy here at the moment, what with the former Minister being murdered and all. So unless he’s is in his office, there’ll be something more important for him to be taking care of at the present.”
“Is there a reason for you being here today? Beyond so you can wander around on your own helping yourself to things that aren’t yours?”

Dorcas backed out of the shop as she settled her satchel over her neck, and then she pulled a ring of keys from inside. After finding the right one, she slid it into the slot in the door, and as she turned it over and initiated the charms and wards that went up automatically every night, she looked up to catch the sight of someone standing behind her in the reflection of the glass panes. Involuntarily, her body jumped and she wheeled about, eyes wide as she fumbled in her bag for her wand. The news of the former minister’s death had her on edge, more so than usual, so even though she wasn’t sure if the person was friend or foe, her body reacted as if it was in danger. “Why are you standing so close to me?” Her voice was strained, eyes finally focusing to take in the face of the other. “Do you want to get blown across the street?” She asked, as if she wasn’t still trying to pull her wand free.
"Dorcas, I’m sorry, it’s just me.” She hadn’t meant to approach Dorcas so quietly, and after seeing how startled she was, Emmeline felt bad for it immediately. She didn’t even need to be in Moody’s company to hear his scolding words... tiredness causes carelessness Vance. Pull yersel’ the’gither... He was right, of course, the fact that she could have had a wand firing at her in that moment had Dorcas not kept it in her bag was a prime example. “Please, I didn’t mean to approach you so quietly...” She said as she raised both her hands to indicate that she was no threat, before she continued. “I just wanted to come and make sure that you were alright.”

Remus sat quietly in the darkened corner of The Three Broomsticks, his head hidden behind the Daily Prophet. He couldn’t believe the news, Eugenia Jenkins had done so much good for the wizarding world and now she was gone. It wasn’t much of a surprise, though, the holidays had gone way too smoothly it was almost too good to be true. There were no attacks at any Christmas or New Years parties, it was only a matter of time before something happened.
Sighing heavily and ripping the paper away from his eyes, Remus turned to the patron sitting at the table nearest him. He didn’t even bother to look to see who it was before opening his mouth, something he rarely did. “Horrible news, isn’t it?” He asked, trying to sound as casual as possible, “Can’t believe someone who did so much good could be taken away so soon.”
Emmeline hadn’t really been paying much attention when her travels had taken her to the Three Broomsticks. She had been awake longer than she cared to think about, the Auror Office in complete chaos meaning that she hadn’t had the chance to stop since the early hours of the morning when she had been woken with the news of Eugenia Jenkins’ murder. There was only so long that they could slave over the same paperwork, statements and evidence, before even Alastor Moody had to admit that they all needed to take a break, and so given the chance to get out, Emmeline took the streets until she found herself an empty table in the familiar pub.
She had been sitting with her head firmly in her hands when she heard a voice close by. A quick sideways glance had her realise that there was no one else close enough to really hear, meaning that Remus (who only now she realised was sitting at table next hers) must have been speaking to her. Straightening herself up, she let out a small sigh before nodding. “I know... She was a great woman, and a fantastic Minister in her time. She definitely didn’t deserve what happened to her.”
Order of the Phoenix Members + @pocpotterweek: Emmeline Vance
“And anyway, life’s too short… look at Madam Bones, look at Emmeline Vance… it could be me next, couldn’t it?”
WHO: Emmeline & Open WHERE: Ministry of Magic, Department of Magical Law Enforcement
Emmeline was exhausted.
It had been three days since she had been awoken by the news of Eugenia Jenkins’ death, and in that time she’d barely had the chance to sit down, let alone get any sleep. The whole department, including the Auror Office, had quickly descended in to a state of barely contained chaos, and she’d had no choice but to get stuck in and do everything she could to help get the situation back under control again.
With every spare pair of hands recruited in to help out, Emmeline was eventually able to grab an opportunity for a breather, and she took off down one of the quieter corridors in hope of finding a spot where she could be one her own for a moment. Finding a small alcove, she let out a deep sigh as she pressed her head against the cold stone of the wall, remaining that way for at least minutes before she was suddenly jolted out of her thoughts by another approaching her.
“Oh, sorry. I didn’t see you there.” Was all she could say as she looked up the person now in front of her.

EMMELINE VANCE TWENTY SIX, HALF-BLOOD, ORDER OF THE PHOENIX
A respected Auror, Emmeline learned from the best. She was one of Mad Eye’s best recruits - though he won’t ever admit that with more than a gruff grumble, if you can even get that much out of him. With her many years in the Auror department under her belt, Emmeline was an ideal recruit for Dumbledore and his Order of the Phoenix, and when presented with the offer, Emmeline knew that was exactly what she was meant to be doing. Sure, double the workload and work hours is tough, but it’s nothing Emmeline can’t handle. This strong-willed Ravenclaw was one of the top students in her year, and her smarts have certainly helped her outwit dark wizards and Death Eaters a time or twelve. Emmeline is determined to make the world a better place, and it’s going to take a lot to take this woman down - she’s far tougher than she looks.
