I'm going to address a few things.
1. I won't dismantle and delete this blog. I understand that a lot of you enjoy the content here, and would hate to see it go, because even if you've reblogged something, it's just easier to access here.
2. I'm still on the fence about continuing. If I do, I likely won't return to doing a piece a day. It's tedious, and given that it's so hard to get an even ratio of likes to reblogs on this platform, it's just not worth the potential hours upon hours that can go into a piece.
3. Given #2, I considered changing the URL to be more accurate. But, ultimately, that's a hassle. The URL, however inaccurate to current circumstances, will not change.
4. Any future piece will feature a reblog, don't just like watermark.

Aster has been Somerled's familiar since birth and onwards even after his resurrection. He's an albino barbary lion, and is a total sweetheart...to Somerled and to people that Somerled obviously likes.
Everyone else gets the cold shoulder.
Aster's parents died in an avalanche while migrating, and he was left alone, and almost perished --until Ć se, on an expedition with her grandson/apprentice and a few magic practicioners from her tribe to retrieve some rare flora, stumbled upon him.
As the youngest, and therefore the most disposable when it comes to mountain range expeditions, Somerled took to nursing the sickly Aster to health in their camp. The young lion's recovery was slow, and he wound up coming with Somerled back to his homeland. Fortunately, he's an adaptable critter ( will do a write up on his species specifics later because this isn't a typical lion despite being named after one ), and was able to acclimate easily.
He's very in tune with Somerled and seems to have an innate knowledge of the status of his wellbeing and his whereabouts no matter the physical distance between them. He can "speak" to Somerled and Asra, because of the sharing a heart thing, in the same manner faust can although his sentences are a little more complex. "I'll eat goat-thing..."
@gentapprentices prompts; August 12th, Wednesday - A man in love: on meeting and falling in love with their LI.
Somerled has three LI's, and two options for Polyam with Asra/Portia and Lucio/Portia. I'll touch briefly on all of his potential relationships below. These relationships occur in their respective routes except for the poly ones. Gonna go over their dynamics more than how they met, because I stick to canon in that respect.
Portia - Just two cottagecore cat people being cottagecore cat people. Somerled is absolutely endeared by Portia's bright attitude and her sheer moxie, and constantly entranced by her vast array of skills. He's very super big on constantly offering genuine praise and support, and when her insecurities come into play, he's quick to rationalize and offer the best advice he can. Together, they get into a lot of harmless shenanigans. I don't know how her route will end so right now their endgame canon is that he joins her at the palace as the head gardener, while she's head servant.
Asra - There's ANGST here. They didn't meet until pre-teenhood but Ć se, Somerled's nanna, was quick to offer food and other goods to little Asra. Unfortunately she didn't have room at the then small shop, but she was trying to get him and Muri housing through her relatives when Lucio struck. Eventually Asra was able to move in and was briefly mentored by Ć se and in part, Sommie, before the plague struck and she disappeared. After that, Sommie went to the palace to help find a cure, Asra left, we know what happens next. They have a really fun relationship with plenty of communication and compromise, neither wanting a repeat of what happened the last time they had a genuine disagreement. They constantly tease each other, and also encourage each other to reach out to others more. Now, Asra's long trips aren't lonely, because Somerled joins him, and the purpose of those trips is to find Ć se rather than running from problems and bad memories ( spoiler: Ase is in the world's realm ).
Lucio: Somerled is constantly flabbergasted by Lucio; they have their moments were they both cut up and have fun but by and large, Lucio seems to have an issue with telling when something is appropriate, and Somerled is there to gently point him in the right direction. He's trying to help him mature, and in turn, Lucio is teaching Somerled to be more sociable and personable..and even less insecure. Lucios insecurities are very obvious to Somerled but the way he tends to disregard them in his typical extravagant fashion is a little inspiring. Of course, Somerled is also trying to smooth away those insecurities. I don't know where Lucios route will go, and while I Did have a placeholder endgame canon, I've decided to erase that and wait.
Portia and Asra - a mix of Asra and Portia's route! The fun never stops with this trio. They're all constantly making each other feel more comfortable with themselves, and bringing out the best in each other. Royal magician, head servant, and head gardener so they're very often/frequently at the palace, with trips to Portia's cottage or the shop to wind down or get some private time.
Portia and Lucio - Portia's route, spoilers! This one's my fave... This ship did exist before the update actually but I mean it just reaffirmed things. I don't have canon deviation here, things essentially went the same as they did in her route. Portia is constantly being doted on and treated like a goddess, and Somerled is often trying to de-escalate Portia and Lucio's ( harmless ) antics because they're both quite mischievous, or can be, and while Portia is a responsible person...Lucio isn't. And he can be a great hype man for his own weird schemes. Most of their time is spent at Portia's cottage. Portia and Somerled encourage Lucio to have a greater respect for the small things in life, and Lucio probably winds up encouraging Portia and Somerled to be more comfortable being themselves. There's actually a lot of insecurity deconstruction here...

I actually step away from canon, slightly, for Somerled. The shop is his grandmother's, not his aunt's. A while ago, I wrote him as having adoptive family only, but I've more recently decided to go half and half, so to speak.
His lineage on his father's side is something he is estranged from. They are a nasty group of people that his mother regrets ever associating with. His mother is also the leader of Somerled's clan, and was extremely busy even though she often made time for Somerled. When she was busy, her mother, his grandmother, would step in. As a result, he was extremely close to his nanna, Ć se, who happened to be the clan's most practiced magician.
She taught him how to hone his natural affinity for magic, and under her guidance he more than thrived. Eventually, in a bid to get away from Somerled's father's people, his tribe migrated into Vesuvia, never dispersing but instead becoming a large network of people with varying abilities --a conglomeration, a very very successful one!
Fitting to her title, Ć se opened a magic shop and Somerled, naturally, worked there with her. She mysteriously vanished just as the plague hit, leaving behind her possessions. Somerled currently wears his nanna's cloak and the main feather from her earring, and often searches for her in his native realm and beyond.

Somerled could easily be categorized under the green witch category! His affinity for flora related magic goes beyond prompting growth, though, extending into other realms of cultivation like splicing/grafting, or combining different plants together. He does this for a variety of reasons spanning medicinal, culinary, and recreational purposes. He's also able to practice a kind of kinesis, prompting plants into animation --usually relying on hardy roots and vine type plants for this specific kind of practice.
For the expression meme, is it limited to Lucio or can we request some Valerius~?
