Neji's hostility towards Hinata during the chunin exam was not only justified, it was lowkey fueled by a mercy he himself would not have been afforded had their skill levels been reversed.

Neji pushes Hinata to quit. Not only because she's outmatched, but because the win/lose conditions are "surrender, incapacitate, or die." First choice he makes is not to attack her and end it while she's too busy panicking, which he could have (and should have in my opinion), but to force her to surrender - which she would have if not for Naruto and in turn her obsession with Naruto.

That fails, he goes to incapacitate her and continues pushing her to forfeit. She still keeps fighting and he doesn't says "fuck it" and go for killing blows, contrary to what Hinata fans and Neji haters like to think. Both in anime and manga, Neji doesn't try to actually kill her until she makes that comment that is the basis for my own dislike of her.

Now, reverse their skill level and try to tell me Neji wouldn't be dead - because it isn't like Hinata values his life nor does her father.

Maybe Guy would've jumped into save Neji, but there wouldn't have been four people jumping in based on how the Hyuga clan and thus the village as a whole place value and worth on Hinata and Neji as "greater" and "lesser."

His hostility towards his younger, slower-blooming cousin is justified? That shit is rooted entirely in his bitterness towards the Main Family for what he perceived to be his father being forced to die for their sake, which was resolved by the revelation his father chose his own fate out of love for his brother and his clan. You treat her unwillingness to just forfeit as a flaw, when the whole point is her starting on her journey to becoming self confident, without losing her kindness, a key characteristic you entirely overlook with your “if their skill levels were flipped” narrative. We literally see the three of them functioning as a family by the end of Part 1, and pivotal moments in the war dictate how they consider each other equals and watch eachothers backs, and you’re gonna sit here and talk about how she and her father didn’t value his life? Was she not bawling her eyes out at his death? Does she not visit his grave constantly? They bring his picture to every milestone? Named her firstborn after him? Yall just come up with the most absolute braindead takes. Neji would be disappointed in you.

One, I do find his hostility justified considering he is a SLAVE and Hinata is representative of his issues with the Hyuga branch - not saying she deserved everything in that moment, but saying he had no validity is only possible if you straight up ignore him being a jaded SLAVE.

Two, it wasn't "perceived" that his father was forced to sacrifice himself, is legitimately what happens. Implying a slave had any real say is bs, his choice was either comply or be forced into submission via his brand, that is not a choice.

Three, I do view her refusal to forfeit a flaw - know when to fold them. The initial fight was fine, I was rooting for her. Then she gets hurt badly enough to where she should quit and doesn't, that to me is a flaw. Her journey to self confidence shouldn't require nearly getting herself killed.

Four, my whole "if their skills were flipped" point isn't saying Hinata WOULD do it, it's saying that if Neji were the weaker of the two and in her position getting severely injured and continuing to fight despite it. Nevermind the fact that had their skill levels been reversed, Hiashi definitely would not have treated Neji decently after the exams (something he only does due to viewing Neji as a legitimate threat to the balance of the clan).

Five, them becoming a "functioning family" doesn't acknowledge the part where he was still a branded slave and her balling her eyes out over his death doesn't change that he lived a slave and died a slave. Again, Neji is being treated with decency not because he is valued as family but because he was a threat and was placated into accepting his role as a slave despite it.

Ignoring legitimately everything else over a perceived slight to Hinata only proves my point about my issues with her fans, by the way. If you take issue with a post made that was clearly tagged "anti hinata," filter and block and move on with your life.

I was re-watching Naruto and realised what masashi kishimoto shouldn't have bothered with female characters in the series at all. If you remove all the female characters from the series it makes no difference in the entire outcome of the series whatsoever. Everything would happen exactly as it did. Naruto would still have his 4 close best friends and 3 of those would be his gay situationships the other 4th would be his pet fox.

Kishimoto did such a bad job at writing female characters that literally every single woman in the entire series exists to serve a man. All the women were created for a male character and not a single woman has an ounce personality or character depth of their own when compared to what their male counterparts got. There are moments in the series when kishimoto tried to show "feminism" and "gender equality" but it's from such a male perspective it makes me want to puke.

The character designs of female characters were good and I even liked some of them. There was so much potential to create some really amazing female characters but he did such a bad job at writing the women in narutoverse it makes me question whether he has ever met or interacted with a human woman ever.
