"Wanting to share your favorite books because they're so well written, but also not wanting to because they're special to you and feel like they're yours. But they asked for the title so you have to share it and feel this kind of bitterness, sadness or annoyance of it not being yours alone... just me? Probably." -Unknown
Thats me!
Many literature classes nearly murdered my love of words. They had us participate in the autopsy of great words. Eviscerating, cataloguing, breaking them down to pieces so small and disarticulated that the beauty of the whole was unrecognisable.
I’ve come to realise that evey book is a New York Times best seller.
I envisioned a project called ‘Breakup Ballad’ which was supposed to be a coffee table graphical book. However the project never went off so I’ve decided to post the excerpts from the book here.
Breakup Ballads 101
1. Baby, treat me like a king and I will treat you like a queen. But treat me like a game and I will show you how it is played.
2. How foolish of me to think that I was the only flower in your garden.
3. And now you are just stranger with all my secrets.
4. I am figuring out which part of my personality are mine and which ones I created for you.
5. Its hard to wait around for something you know might never happen; But its harder to give up when you know its everything you want.
6. Remember you were art long before he came to admire you and you will continue to be art even when he is gone.
- A masterpiece is still a masterpiece even when the lights are off and room is
empty.
7. You told me you were leaving me because I smoke cigarettes. I stopped smoking in fear of losing you forever. I went by your place to tell you that I broke my bad habit. I saw you pressing your lips against someone new. My walk home was lonely and the only thing pressed to my lips was a cigarette. I guess its time to quite my bad habit. - You.
8. It was probably nothing to you, but it felt like world to me.
9. Stuck between “I don’t wanna feel that kind of hurt again” but “I wanna feel that kind of love again”
10. Some say it’s painful to wait for someone. Some say it’s painful to forget someone. But the worst pain comes when you don’t know whether to wait or forget.
11. Maybe we will meet again when we are slightly older and our minds are less hectic, and I will be right for you and you will be right for me. But right now you are chaos to my thoughts and you are poison to my heart.
12. We were a perfect match. But darling matches burn.
13. If you can love the wrong one so much, just imagine how much you can love the right one.
14. You were a dream. Then a reality. Now a memory.
15. Waiting is painful. Forgetting is painful. But not knowing which to do is the worst kind of suffering.
16. It’s about who you miss at 2 in the afternoon when you’re busy, not 2 in the morning when you’re lonely.
I recently learnt that plants communicate to each other through roots. My terrace garden which was a source of joy to me, now depresses me. All those innocent potted plants asking to be released from solitary confinement.
I’ve read enough literature to realise that renowned writers were not always contended with their life and chose to end their life. I wanted to make a list of great writers (& artists) who committed suicide.
Writers
Ernest Hemingway
David Foster Wallace
Stefan Zweig
Sylvia Plath
Virginia Wolf
Hunter Thompson
Yukio Mishima
Jack London
Artists
Vincent Van Gogh

I’m aware that I may have missed other famous name. Do comment your suggestion so that I can add them in the list.
“For a significant intellectual product to make a broad and deep immediate appeal, there must be a hidden affinity, indeed a congruence, between the personal destiny of the author and the wider destiny of his generation. The public does not know why it grants the accolade of fame to a work of art. Being in no sense connoisseurs, readers imagine they perceive a hundred good qualities in it which justify their admiration; but the real reason for their applause is something imponderable, a sense of sympathy.” “Even in a personal sense, after all, art is an intensified life. By art one is more deeply satisfied and more rapidly used up. It engraves on the countenance of its servant the traces of imaginary and intellectual adventures, and even if he has outwardly existed in cloistral tranquillity, it leads in the long term to overfastidiousness, overrefinement, nervous fatigue and overstimulation, such as can seldom result from a life full of the most extravagant passions and pleasures.” Excerpt From - Death in Venice by Thomas Mann (Nobel laureate)
coup de foudre - Love at first sight
dolce far niente- pleasant idealness
अत्यंतकामा- sheer indulgence
tabula rasa - an absence of preconceived notions; clean slate
In ancient Rome the ruling class wanted to make all slaves wear a cloak. But then they decided not to do it because they realised if all the slaves dressed the same, they would see how many of them there were, and they’d rise up and kill their masters.
