divine kind | mini event & midorima
Often, he loses himself in the hint of gold hollowing out his eyes with a hidden Midas touch; the brush of stardust across his knuckles that makes him feel godlike. (Often -- he swallows reminders like knives, and shallowly forgets them before he manages to bleed out.)
(Midorima, himself, is a reminder that he is exceptionally, exceedingly human.)
A ball is, truthfully, not the first place he'd like to be on a night like this -- crescent moon curving its edges in the same manner he twists a slight smile; however, his father insisted (and he was nothing if not a centurion of war, plucked from the starting lines and crowned general, king, emperor). In the end, he asks Midorima to attend over a game of shogi.
("Your father's already sending you as his scapegoat?" A smile. "We start young.")
Nimble fingers adjust a tie, smooth out the lines of a dress shirt, pluck at the corners of his smile until he is a sea of calm; a smoothed over demeanor that settles and stills with an overabundance of control. No matter the situation, he drops his pieces onto the board, and slides them into place with a resounding -- click.
(He's lost Midorima somewhere between the affluent handshakes and cocksure smiles, the champagne-flushed cheeks and too many men willing to spill blood for thrones -- he's one of them. He doesn't falter; wandering stars always find their way back to the sun.)
Akashi is leaning over the veranda's balcony, tapping Bach's Solfeggietto (Shintarou played it for him once, twice, three times maybe) into the marble and praying for a rapture to bring the occupants to their knees -- (he smiles when he remembers: he is the rapture; the beginning and the end).
The sound of footsteps hollows against marble and he tilts his head, just slightly, to offer a small smile to Midorima.
(He can see the distaste brimming at the corners of his eyes and the venom balanced precariously on his lips, and then he sees the reluctant silence that follows.)
"I do hope I haven't caused you too much trouble in bringing you here."
