Empty Bowls, Inc. distributes free pet food to low income people and anyone who has fallen on tough times. Our mission is to prevent abandoned and surrendered pets by supplying pet owners in need with food for their pets. To ensure that no pet goes hungry, the pantry provides free dog and cat food to anyone in financial crisis. We teach the community about caring for pets, spay/neuter programs, and the humane treatment of all pets. PLEASE HELP ME OUT AND SPREAD THE WORD

This is Nico. He’s an 8 month old Domestic Long Hair/Maine Coon mix (or so the vent thinks so) kitten. I’m trying to find him a good home. By the end of this month (the date is currently January 6th 2014) I will be moving into a new home that consists of a dog that terrorizes cats and a woman who is highly allergic to them. I’ve had Nico since he was about 5 months old. He was a rescue cat. He’s very cuddly and playful and all over, just a good cat. Although he likes to climb so cat houses and cat trees are recommended. He’s pretty good with other pets (once he gets used to them of course) but he will not attack another animal without being pushed to do so. He also LOVES people. There hasn’t been one person that walked in my door that he didn’t like. There are no medical issues, other than the fact that he still needs to be neutered and needs his rabies shot. I’ve grown very attached to this little guy and I hate to see him go but it is the best option… If you live in Ohio (stark county or anything near by) Or you wouldn’t mind driving out to get this little guy, Please email me. Logan, A sweet 11 year old Husky, who in March 2012 suffered a terrible burn when an unknown person came into his yard, unprovoked,  and threw an acid based chemical in his face while Logan was in his kennel.

After many weeks, countless prayers, and lots of love, Logan’s wounds steadily healed but the scars remained.

It became the mission of Logan’s family to get an animal abuse registry law passed in the State of Michigan. This Law would make a registry of those convicted of animal abuse, and require all animal shelters to refuse sale or adoption of an animal to anyone on this list. This new Law would me named “Logan” after the dog. 

On July 9th, 2012 Logan lost his fight to the treatment and side effects of the attack. Logan is gone, but the fight continues. Help us make sure no other animal suffers like Logan.

ABANDONED DOG PROTECTS PARALYZED CAT ON THE STREETS - "Ruth, a cat and Idgie a dog were abandoned together and now share an inseparable bond."

A two-year-old Dachshund named Idgie and a seven-month-old cat named Ruth were discovered huddled together on the side of a road in Florida. Idgie was very protective of Ruth, who happened to be paralyzed. They were rescued by the Seminole County Animal Services, and later taken in by Hollywood Houndz Boutique & Spa where they continue to live together. Read more from the Orlando Sentinel:

In this dog-eat-dog world, we should all be so lucky as to have a friend like Idgie — a friend who refuses to leave our side, even if we’re lame and lying in the dirt by a busy road.

That’s how Seminole County Animal Services found Idgie — a pudgy 2-year-old Dachshund — standing guard over a 7-month-old paraplegic cat. It was early October and still hot, and someone apparently had dumped the animals by a gated driveway outside Geneva, perhaps hoping the homeowner would take pity on them.

Idgie growled and barked protectively whenever anyone approached. The kitty, it turned out, could only move by dragging herself along by her front legs. The back ones were limp and useless, the paws twisted.

So now, Idgie and Ruth have a new home at Hollywood Houndz. They nap in a large pen by the front window, the dog curling her body around the cat, who is moved and fed and bathed daily. Idgie gets regular walks and treats and attention from the entire staff, not to mention a parade of customers. But should another pooch approach, Idgie barks and growls as fiercely as a wiener dog can muster.

Every year on June 11, the No Kill Advocacy Center and Animal Ark ask shelters to end the killing for Just One Day and beyond. On June 11, 2013, over 12,000 animals were saved, 1,200 shelters and rescue groups celebrated, adopters welcomed a new family member, the incinerators remained shuttered and the morgues stayed empty. We erased more than one day’s worth of killing in the U.S.
