after a long time, I finally finished the fanfiction that brought me to my limit, made me cry a lot and quite literally made me a walking mess hahaha

I wrote it for the @merthurglompfest but I quite spontaneously jumped in as I saw they needed a few pinch-hitter, so I volunteered.

The whole plan was: write a small 15k if mostly 20k story and that’s it. Well, yeah… over 140k Words later.

I’ve never ever in my life spend so much time writing, like every second every minute of the day I worked on this story to get it done in time.

Anyways— the whole point is; it’s finally on AO3. I really gave my blood, sweat and tears for this, so I hope some of you will read it and hopefully enjoy it! 🤎

Imagine being just like a regular person in Camelot. Like I’d be so fucking scared of Merlin, One day this twink shows up out of no where, starts a fight with the prince on day one, the Prince then becomes obsessed with the guy even though this dude borderline commits treason every time he speaks, he keeps bringing in randos off the street that then somehow get knighted and he’s literally always at the scene of the crime

...a Merlin fic where they travel to Ealdor undercover to take care of a creature that's been scaring the people and causing other shenanigans?

They have to stay there for more than a few days cause its a sneaky one. But like Arthur is not focused on teaching people this time and in his new found free time he talks with the townspeople and notice how they avoid Merlin...

They do not talk to him, or ask him help with anything, they ignore him when he is in the room, Merlin seems to only talk with his mother or them and the rest of town only interact with him through others, never directly.

Which becomes obvious to the rest of the group after a while. Asking around and subtly hinting at the behavior they find out that Merlin is considered a changeling by Ealdor's people, which of course explains why they treat him like that, but the stories related make them fear the manservant as they find more and more similar situations that they have lived around him.

Of course Merlin is not a changeling, he is so much more than that, but as the suspicion grows in the group, maybe they'll find out more than what they expect.

It seems to me that if Merlin were not Arthur's personal servant, but the court jester, he would have more free time. And he would be able to study various magical things in depth and quickly. And even expose simple spells as complex tricks and just sleight of hand.

"Hey, this book is very similar to a spell book."

"No, no, magic is forbidden in this kingdom, his Majesty would definitely not forgive me for learning magic…"

"… wouldn't he?"

P.S. I also have a vision of his "camouflage" Emrys, but I will publish that later…👀
