MAGIC ANONS ARE ALWAYS OPEN.   {{ OOC: beyondthetemples-ooc here, controlling this page; this is a roleplay account for my most precious OC, Dove.   *Rules*   ~   QUICK FACTS:   Name: Dove. Right now she has no alias, nor does she yet have need.   Identity: 14-year-old female living with the Teen Titans. And did I mention, she's Raven's half-sister by father? (It's a VERY long story and can't be explained in a "quick" facts style. The condensed version: It's kept secret. She wasn't supposed to exist and her mother kept her very PRESENCE a secret, from their entire world. And now Dove does her best to maintain that adamant secrecy on Earth.)   Appearance: Slightly small, short, and not yet developed, usually wearing a custom-tailored white dress with half sleeves and a black band across the waist, with a white hooded cloak. Her eyes look deep purple from a distance, but look closely enough and they're actually a dark midnight blue with a red sort of "overcast"; they're layered like looking at a dark sky through red stained glass. Her hair is simply blonde and about shoulder-length, her bangs slightly longer.   Personality: Dove is extremely shy at first; it takes quite a bit of gentle coaxing to get her relaxed, let alone trusting and willing to open up. Being isolated all her life left her socially crippled, but not cruel; she's actually quite compassionate and friendly once she adjusts. She's also very nervous though, and easily worried. There's a strength in her that she often doubts, the ability to stand up for those she cares for and what she believes in, fighting through to the end even if it kills her and she struggles with herself every step of the way. She was raised pacifist, after all; those beliefs are still as strong in her as her desperate desire to help others.   Powers: Above all, telepathy. She can read thoughts, communciate via mental conversations, read memories, and involuntarily detect lying, truthfullness, how hard someone's thinking, and how deeply. She can also mold/force minds in the direction she wants/needs them to go, fabricate false memories and implant them, and warp one's thoughts and perceptions - but she refuses to use those abilities. Even her best-controlled telepathic readings could drive someone insane if she isn't careful... Much more harmless (though not always less frightening) is her family's gift of scrying and precognition. Then there's her effortless but largely uncontrolled sense of empathy; she can feel whether something's positive or negative, but she's so inexperienced and weak with interpretting it that it usually just leaves her confused. She has also shown abilities like telekinesis, levitation, and energy projections, but she's extremely weak with them and they're difficult for her to control.   Other things to know: For plot purposes and such, keeping it interesting... Dove is terrified by anger, evil, and violence; her phobias include cynophobia (large dogs), ceraunophobia (fear of thunder - NOT lightning or rain), and emetophobia (she's paralyzingly terrified of being physically sick); she can't stand the sight of blood or roller coasters (she gets motion sick so easily); and she's embarrassed that magic should probably come naturally to her but she's incredibly inept. And she's prone to reminiscing, especially at first meeting.   ~*~   Brief roleplayer's note: Though Dove is a Teen Titans character, and she's already well established in all my stories and fanfics, I consider each "venue" of her life to be a separate form of her reality - so I don't need a Teen Titans partner to feel comfortable RPing with Dove here on Tumblr. Universes can cross. Bringing her to Tumblr opened a new "world" of opportunities, so I'll have her basically starting a new life here, and we'll see where it takes us. :}   Willing to RP?: ALWAYS!

         "I KNOW IT LOOKS BAD considering there's a fire, but this is a good thing. it means that i figured out the electricity issue for my robot here... but uh. next step is the whole DON'T explode into flames. not exactly the best design feature." also she really ought to go grab the fire extinguisher, but there was something kind of fascinating about watching the way the flames danced over the metal. like it might r e v e a l something within her blueprint that wasn't working properly.

                   everything had looked in order, after all! hope ground her teeth together in a rise of frustration, finally pushing back from the workbench and sauntering over to the safety device she had on hand. the blue haired wasn't a fool - as talented as she was with her tinkering, things still could go wrong.

          a phwoosh as she activated the spewing of the contents. "probably should check on the fire alarm in this place considering it didn't-" as if on cue, the blaring started going off, and hope would grimace deeply. "...nevermind."

Today Dove learned that electrical fires smelled different from kitchen fires.

She'd reflexively flung herself back a few steps when the fire erupted, and only had a moment to relax before the noise erupted, too.

Luckily blaring alarms were a little more familiar to her in recent years. At least this time, she already knew why the alarm was going off. That was a rare luxury with crime alerts. Still, it was loud, and she cringed a bit and covered her ears with her hands.

"That was... probably one of the easier fires I've seen," she noted, voice raised against the alarm. It was a weak attempt at optimism to counter Hope's frustration. And that was all she could offer, because she didn't really understand electronics and robots, despite living with both. 'Cutting edge technology' to her mostly meant it had a lot more buttons than she needed to press.

But if Hope was willing to set her workshop on fire, there had to be a purpose behind it. "What was this for, again...?"

         "CAN Y'FLY...? and if so, i got a follow up question... can y'fly holding another person?" the follow up to that would be could dove fly her to the middle of nowhere so she could SCREAM for a solid five minutes. cat didn't need the cops called on her for making a racket, she just wanted to release for a minute. because? ...why not?

"Yes?" The answer was reflexive; the question caught her off-guard. Usually if she was interviewed about her powers, it was by another hero as they made plans to collaborate on a mission. Somehow Dove doubted that's why Cat asked.

She turned to Cat, murmuring a note in thought. "But I... can't carry another person with my arms. If-- well... maybe... With telekinesis... I think I could do it?"

She really didn't sound sure of that, though. Probably because she really wasn't sure. Though she muttered, eyes cast aside, "It's better than teleporting, at least..." Which she could technically manage, and she could manage it with another person, but it was three stages of struggle and recovery that left her utterly miserable.

{{ Okay, fine, after seeing three Beach Day type posts and the summer Hellaverse merch coming out, I realized I've never really written Beach Day type headcanons for Dove. So let's get started!

For context: I headcanon that Jump City's climate is that of San Francisco. This is based on three things:

1.) In the Trouble in Tokyo movie, there's a map of the trip they take where you see them leaving the California coast, about midway up the state.

2.) There was a special feature on one of the DVDs where the writers and producers talked about designing Jump City as a blend of San Diego, San Francisco, and Tokyo.

The soil/vegetation is definitely not that of San Diego's--believe me, I've been there and I even made a post on my personal blog like "If Jump City is supposed to be partly San Diego, WHERE ARE ALL THE PALM TREES?", and obviously it's not actually in Japan, since they had to fly there in the movie. Hence: San Francisco!

3.) All the ground fog at the start of Aftershock pt. II, that's very San Fransciso of them.

So there are a lot of days that are in the 60F range even in the summer, which, while perfect weather for people like me, is a bit too cold for Dove to enjoy being outside.

I headcanon that Azarath had two suns, one closer and one much more distant, so the climate there was very warm. Between that Azarathean blood and having a father that is literally a demon from Hell, Dove is built for Much Warmer Weather. She's most comfortable in the 75-80F range on a sunny day with no breeze.

Let's assume there's a day in the Warmer Range and Dove is coming to join everyone else!

She loves water; she had never learned to swim in Azarath, being housebound of course, but she'd played in her baths, and the Titans taught her to swim shortly after the joins them. (This happens in DDD, around chapter 5 I think? Roleplay canon Dove takes place after DDD, so she can swim in roleplays!)

( (( Aside from the T-sub launching pool, the Tower has a swimming pool they use for training and leisure in the 80's comics, so I keep that in Dove's canon.)) )

Anyways, Dove isn't a super skilled swimmer, but she does like being in the water. As long as it's warm enough outside, anyways, or the water at the beach is warm enough if it's any cooler than like 85F.

Most of her time on the beach isn't spent in the water, is what I'm saying.

She does have fair skin that sunburns easily, she learned this the hard way when she was homeless after first arriving on Earth. Luckily her clothes from Azarath have a lot of coverage, so it was mostly on her face and neck that got burned. (She'll tan slightly after a burn, but she would very much prefer not to burn in the first place, thank you very much.)

She's very adamant about making sure there's sun screen and umbrellas.

Dove's eyes are also sensitive to light, so she'll have a huge dark pair of sunglasses. (None of those fashionable tiny frames. The sun will still be in her eyes.)

She's also likely to be under an umbrella, more to keep the sun out of her eyes than to keep cool. She'd be content to lay on a towel with a book, but once they introduce her to beach chairs, she'd opt for one of those. It doesn't infuriate her, but getting sand in her dress is at least mildly annoying. It's itchy.

She's also very shy about showing skin, so her dresses might be tank top straps, but that's the most skin you see. She actually prefers having sleeves, though she might get overwarm with her usual sleeve length (down to her wrists), so she's probably wearing something with flutter sleeves or cap sleeves, if not something longer, draping, and loose, like bell sleeves or similar.

She is EXCEEDINGLY nervous about her scars from DDD though, across her chest and going down her back from between her shoulderblades to her tailbone. She'll never show them if you give her the choice, so her dresses all have higher necklines and won't show her back. She'd even wear a coverup or small dress in the water; a swimsuit is no exception to wanting to hide her scars!

She'll be okay wearing sandals, though. Socks and/or her usual shoes are too warm for a sunny beach day. You could theoretically convince her to wear a sunhat, but if there's a breeze, she might give up on trying to keep it on and will take it off.

She's not great at sports and such, so she wouldn't play beach volleyball unless someone REALLY begged her to join in. She might have fun splashing in the water, but she's much more likely to be meandering on her own, watching the water, the birds, just enjoying the feel of the tides around her.

She's probably bring Sieara along, too! Sieara would be content to sunbathe for awhile, near Dove in the sunlight instead of the shade, but then grow adventurous and follow people around, socialize with the seagulls and city pigeons at the nearby beachside cafes, and maybe play with nearby small dogs or observe other wildlife on the beach.

Dove brings her water and food, since the others tell her seawater isn't safe to drink, and birds need to eat a lot more often than people, so Dove might have a little birdie station set up that she puts out, and quickly learns she has to put away as soon as Sieara's done, or the pigeons and seagulls will eat it all.

Dove does like music, so if someone's playing guitar or whatever, she'd wander over to listen, and mostly doesn't mind overhearing if people are throwing a dance party. She might watch from a distance and enjoy the joyful emanations from their minds, though she'd hesitate HARD on dancing herself unless 1.) someone else convinces her to, and 2.) they're away from the most tightly-clustered crowd. Dancing in a crowd would overwhelm her.

That's about all I can think about offhand, but this is already quite an essay!

Dove turned to him the moment he spoke. For a split second she admired how handsome he was, dressed in the suit and moonlight. But what he said stole away all thoughts of his appearance.

Maybe he didn't have a lot of fancy words for her, but those words were all she needed. And for a moment, his words robbed her of any response. Nothing else existed.

He loved her?

He loved her?!

She smiled-- she giggled, shock and delight and an unfamiliar bashfulness blooming through her. Was this a dream? Static snapped at her fingers and lightning in her mind clarified just how focused he really was on her, her powers responding to the emotions that rose before she noticed, and she floundered to take a deep breath and keep it contained. Rein in the energies. But she couldn't rein in the giddy euphoria entirely.

It was perhaps the most shocked she'd ever been when her telepathic reception picked up on all the frantic activity in his mind, and yet it was all true. Why would he lie to her, after all? All the gifts he'd given her, the jewelry and the rose, his companionship, his trust... The strawberries. First love. It all fit into place.

Somehow, this was really happening.

She didn't know what to say. What do you say in moments like this? She didn't know. But she knew one thing, looking at him in this moment, the truth in her own heart fluttered like an excited bird.

"I-I..." Her voice trembled; she dropped her eyes, but still smiling, until she gathered her courage, took another deep breath to steady herself, and reached out to accept the flowers. It gave her something to do with her hands, holding them close.

"Caleb, I..."

She looked up into his eyes then, because in that moment all the stars and flowers in the world couldn't hold a candle to the sincerity she felt there.

"I love you, too."

he attempt to seem confident but he is very nervous as he looked at her her expression hard to read t first and her speechless expression only making him more nervous . he doesn't draw an easy breath till he see her smiling .

hearing her giggling draws a smile to his face and he begins to relax a little . his heart feeling light for the first time in a long time as he realizes this secret he carried around was out now . she has his full attention as she begins to speak .

he gives her time to gather herself and find the words she was looking for , he prepares himself for her answer no matter what it is ready accept it either way . his heart secretly hoping she felt the same way .

he is still smiling as she accepts the flowers . but he isn't sure what to say or if he should say something , a very unusual feeling for the fearless warrior . he feels his heart beating as he waits for her response .

she is the only thing he sees as she looks into his eyes , as if the entire world disappeared in that moment . just the two of them and nothing else in that moment . he looks into her eyes as well . he hears the words he had hoped for and he repeats them in his mind several times as the nervousness slowly dissipates .

he has the biggest smile anyone had ever seen on his face as he realizes that she really feels the same way . he tries to speak at first his mouth only moving without the words as he tried to figure out what to say " really ? " he is almost in a state of shock " if i am dreaming please don't wake me up "

"If it is, it's the best dream I've ever had," Dove mused, her gaze falling to the flowers shyly, enchanted--then her eyes snapped wide, and she looked to him with one hand over her mouth, blushing again.

"That was--I mean--" She couldn't help laughing nervously. This was so sudden, and it was so new to her, she didn't know what to do. Of course she dreamed about romance as a child, but never once had she thought it would actually find her. She was supposed to die hidden away, a secret from the whole world. But now she felt electrified, more alive than she had ever been.

Caleb loved her!

"I don't know what that was. I-I don't know what this is. But I-- I think that's what it means, isn't it? It's good. It has to be. What else could it be?"

She was unsteady and flustered, but somehow not as embarrassed as she'd usually be. She was too giddy, and she felt too foolish to feel embarrassed. Her heart was too busy feeding the smile that wouldn't waver even in her moment of shock.

{{ Have I mentioned yet how much Dove would like K-Pop Demon Hunters?

She is literally a half-demon that tries to hide her heritage and ends up on a team fighting evil.

The climactic plot point of the others finding out about Rumi and shunning her would speak to so many of Dove's personal worst nightmares.

She also has phases where she struggles with her superpowers when she's stressed and frustrated and afraid.

And of course, the unity and Power of Friendship in the end despite Rumi's secret getting out would really speak to her.

Yeah, Dove would relate SO much, and it would be one of those movies that shocks her with how much it can make her feel.

(As for the music, it's not her very favorite genre, but I think she'd enjoy it. A lot of the cultural references would go over her head, all the online stuff would confuse her, she knows nothing about kpop or fandom. But the story would overshadow all of that.)

And I like how this is the first and only one I've gotten, and it's a Rare.

Anyways, that's... probably N from Pokemon Black+White. I really appreciated how much they played with perspective, and a lot of his quotes really resonated with me at the time. I think I admire that he's both so calculated yet so compassionate, so disconnected from humans yet so connected to the other creatures in his world. (I really relate to that last part a LOT.)

Not to mention, I was never too fond of the real-world implications of Pokemon battling myself. And that one quote sounded like it could've come straight from my trainersona's mouth: "Hurting my friends... That's what Pokemon battling really is."

And his character arc! Oh, I LOVED the idea of learning that humans aren't all horrible monsters, and yet not losing his connection to Pokemon for that. And then deciding he wanted (needed?) to go out and see the world. It was just SUCH a good backstory AND plot for him, they did an amazing job with him. Definitely my very favorite Pokemon villain.

Honorable mention: If we're playing with a looser definition of "villain", I also really ADORE who the "big bad" antagonist in the Teen Titans videogame for PS2 and Gamecube was, and this is a massive spoiler for the entire twist ending of the game, trying to figure out how/why they were trapped in a videogame, they went through the HIVE kids and Mumbo and even Slade, but it turns out the villain was: ACTUALLY YOU PLAYING IT!

That delights me to no end. It was a fun twist! And I love a good fourth wall break!
