This rather tame, active, crested little bird is common all year round in eastern forests. The Tufted Titmouse - Baeolophus bicolor is related to the chickadees, and like them readily comes to bird feeders often carrying away sunflowers seeds one at a time.

Widespread in our world, the Great Cormorant - Phalacrocrax carbo was one an uncommon and local breeder in a limited area of eastern Canada. In recent decades its North American population has gone through a great increase and expansion, with the nesting range now extending south into New England.

Common Loons - Gavia immer; inhabit coastal waters and large southern lakes. In such places they are solitary while feeding, but may gather in loose flocks at night. This species is most abundant in Canada and the Northern United States.
The Whinchat - Saxicola rubetra;is a small perching bird. It runs or hops on the ground and often perches on top of low bushes. The whinchat is a summer visitor and passage migrant. Birds breeds in upland areas of northern and western Britain with a few in Ireland.

With its quite calls and dense coniferous forest habitat, the Red-breasted Nuthatch - Sitta canadensis maybe overlooked until it wanders down a tree towards the ground. It often shows little fear of humans, and may come close to a person standing quietly in a conifer grove. It breeds across Canada, Alaska, and the northeastern and western United States.

Not only is the Pied Kingfisher - Ceryle rudis; the largest bird capable of a true hover in still air, it is also the only kingfisher with all black and white plumage. A proficient predator of fish, the pied kingfisher forages from a perch or while hovering, flying low over the water before rising up to 10 metres, holding a brief hover, and then plunging into the water, and seizing its target in its bill.

Common Cuckoo - Cuculus canorus; This species is a Widespread summer migrant to Europe and Asia, and winters in Africa. It is a brood parasite, which means it lays eggs in the nest of other bird species, particularly of dunnocks, meadow pipits and reed warblers.

A small- to medium- sized gull species, the Silver Gull - Larus novaehollandiae: is a gregarious bird, and is often found in large flocks of hundreds to thousands of individuals. An opportunistic feeder, the silver gull has an extremely varied diet, including fish, marine and terrestrial invertebrates, seeds, berries and birds eggs. This species is found in southern Australia and Tasmania.

Ethereal and ghost-like, the Barn Owl - Tyto alba; flies silently and slowly, often with its feet dangling. The heart-shaped facial disc is pale and the large eyes are black. The Barn Owl feeds on small rodents, especially voles and mice, and on frogs and insects. It is one of the most widespread birds in the world, known from most of Europe, Africa, Asia, the Americas and most of Australasia.
