The brunette’s gaze briefly landed on the large green plant Harry had left for her when she was still back in New York as the tension left to hang in the air between them almost immediately shifted. A harmless object, somehow turned a silent witness and not so gentle reminder of everything that had transpired when she was back in her former hometown. That had everything to do with Veronica. Aubrey still didn’t know of just how much the other girl was aware. Was she still lying to her? Had Danny told her she had been the one to interrupt him late at night? She had expected the meeting to be nothing but uncomfortable. Still, she tried to remain friendly. Always wanting to believe the best in people, even after they had wronged her. Especially if they had never even had the chance to share their side of the story.

“I just got back from New York,” she answered her, honestly. She was sure her face was speaking volumes. Positive that Veronica could tell something was wrong in an instant. That things were far from how they used to be between them. “I’m sorry I’ve been so busy lately.”

DARK BROWN EYES FELT A LITTLE TOO WEAK to focus on aubrey. veronica knew what she had done to her friend (was she still rightful to consider aubrey as her friend after everything ? she doesn’t know, and she’s scared to know). this is one of the many times wherein she knew that walls would start to built itself up, and the tension in the air will become thicker than ever-- even if nothing will be done to finish the unfinished business.

in response to that, veronica offers a faint smile upon the announcement. does that mean danny’s back in town too ? the last thing she ever needed was to bump into him in the exact place that she and aubrey are now, and she promised herself that that phone call would be the last. “ did you have fun ? “ she asked, unsure if that was the right question. “ it’s fine. we all have our lives ahead of us. we’re both busy adults. “

Without even having to glance her way, the man knew immediately who it was. “Veronica.” He smiled softly, turning to face her with the neck of his beer gripped between his fingers. Alluring as she had been the night she’d soothed his heartache. But that felt like a world away now. He chuckled at her words before lifting the glass to his mouth. “It certainly feels that way.” Tongue traced his lips, catching the bitter taste of the beer before he cocked his head at her. “No doubt you’ve been busy, charming the pants off this town.”

OF COURSE, VERONICA KNEW SHE’S UNFORGETTABLE. the way he greeted her looked all too familiar, and it’s almost as if it was the very first encounter she had with him. “ harry. “ she greets back, before turning to the bartender for a tall glass of mojito, just to make things more exciting and fun-- rather than a boring catch-up that she obviously doesn’t care enough to hear. she chuckles softly, shaking her head no at his little assumption. “ me ? charming the pants off this town ? i’m not so sure about that. tell me, what’s going on with you ? “

It was still a little weird for Aubrey to be back home soon so already after spending a few days back in her former hometown with her boyfriend. She knew she was bound to run into the other girl eventually. After all, the situation was a little too hard to ignore when they both shared and lived in the same apartment building. When Veronica used to be someone who she up until a few weeks ago still very much considered to be her friend, right up until the very moment she had decided to put a certain amount of distance between them. Part of her had hoped that maybe any type of future run in with her could have been avoided somehow. That she didn’t have to look her immediately in the eye, left wondering about the other girl’s motives for not being honest with her. Wishful thinking that had inevitably backfired, as she had been unable but to lay her eyes on her the minute the brunette so much as walked out of her own front door.

“Veronica,” Aubrey breathed as she greeted her, surprise more than evident in the sound of her voice as she hadn’t expected to bump into her. Not this soon. Not only a few days later. “I haven’t seen you in a while.” // @emvncipxte

A FEW DAYS AFTER SULKING INTO HER EMOTIONS AND BEING A TOTAL MESS, veronica thought it was good to just distract herself with the modelling gigs her manager had lined up for her. supposedly, she wasn’t going to say yes to everything-- but after all the things that happened in just one night, she knew she had to get her mind off of it and try her best to not fuel up the raging fire of emotions burning into her heart. that being said, she swore that it would be the last time that she’s ever gonna do something on her pathetic feelings. it wasn’t right, and she knew she somehow betrayed a friend. “ yeah, yeah. i’m on my way out. “ veronica mumbles through her phone with an eyeroll, walking her way out the door and locking it once she was on the other side. she sighed softly, puts the phone away as her manager started talking a bunch of words again to give her ear a break.

“ aubrey. “ she says, her voice sounding so dry upon the recognition of the feminine voice that echoed through the hallway. of course, it’s supposed to feel so suffocating. “ yeah... how’s ... everything ? “

Danny: That's... really nice to know because I did the same, obviously. Then when my calls or messages were constantly ignored I just had to let it go... to let you go. But it was painful, I thought I'd done something wrong and that's why you didn't wanna see me anymore. And the thought killed me cause it was all so sudden.

Danny: I've never met a woman like you, Evie. As fierce and determined. And I was completely hypnotized by you. That's why I went to see you anytime I could, I was at every runway show, every photoshoot I could. I wanted you with me even when we weren't exclusive or anything, even if I messed with other girls. You truly got me so when you left, you left me broken.

Danny: Evie, I can't blame you, I had quite a reputation.

Veronica: Danny's the fuck boy type. the guy who always steals the spotlight then owns the show. the headturner. [chuckles once more] basically, everyone's dream guy but no one was strong enough to keep you by their side.

Veronica: and jaye? he's perfect in all aspects. he's amazing in everything he does. he's everything i ever wanted in my whole life. but i ruined things just because i wasn't as strong as i make it seem to be. it sucks, but i guess that's how life is.

Veronica: it's okay. i could listen to you talk for hours. you know that.
