Several federal NDP candidates have criticized the amount of force used by the Mounties in enforcing a court injunction.

A video posted on YouTube shows the RCMP using a great deal of force against peaceful protesters trying to protect an old-growth forest on Vancouver Island.

The Mounties used large amounts of pepper spray to enforce an injunction obtained by a logging company, Teal-Jones.

In addition, one of the protesters appears to have been punched by an officer while on the ground.

According to the Rainforest Flying Squad, one of the demonstrators was pepper sprayed in the mouth.

Cops also further rubbed the pepper spray in with their hands. There was also an rcmp officer who grabbed a woman on the front lines by her nipples to make her move saying “this is how we are trained to treat women on the front lines”. A friend of mine was pulled from a moving bicycle by their hair, were kicked until they rolled over, and then had their face held in the dirt. The violence is growing every day. Police are now threatening to use rubber bullets.

Find a protest near you! National days of action Sept. 24-26 Stop all evictions & cancel the rents!

Organizers from every part of the country are mobilizing to take part in the Sept. 24-26 national days of protest! Congress must act to institute an indefinite moratorium on evictions and foreclosures that covers the entire country. An act of Congress would not be subject to a court challenge the way the CDC-issued moratorium was. An indefinite eviction freeze would provide stability for working class renters, mortgage holders and small landlords, and should be followed by the total cancellation of rent and mortgage debt accumulated during the pandemic.

Protesters taking part in the national days of action will demand that:

Congress pass an indefinite moratorium on evictions that covers 100% of the country Authorities at all levels dramatically speed up the distribution of already-allocated renter relief funds Congress cancel the rents and wipe out all rent and mortgage debt accumulated during the pandemic Initial list of actions

Hey guys, now that I’m in section 8 housing my bills are extremely low and a women’s shelter stocked me up with diapers, wipes and clothes for both of my kids. If you want, you can still donate. I do still need help with getting new tires for my car, it’s not a huge priority, but I would appreciate the help. The closest food pantry is actually 33 miles away, but a lady does bring me a box of food but it’s every two weeks. So when I’m low, I have to resort to getting dollar store food or take out. I’ve gone to a grand total of 8 job interviews in my small god-awful town, and they’ve all collectively said, and of course, in their own words that I cannot work at their establishment if I can’t work more than 3 hours without breastfeeding because they have male employees and they would be distracted. Which is completely and utterly ridiculous, and absolutely disgusting. Which is why I need all the help I can get until my daughter turns a year old then I can get a real job. So, Xi Jinping’s recent remarks on expanding the ‘common prosperity’ model to Zhejiang province as a whole have caused a lot of fuss with the bourgeoisie and the western press. If it’s freaking out the bourgeoisie, it’s probably good, but we should still ask: what exactly is common prosperity?

‘Common prosperity’ is an old concept: one referred to by Mao Zedong in the 1950s; and later by Deng Xiaoping as the ultimate end-goal of Reform and Opening Up - affluence shared by everyone, not just for the few. In practice, this currently means better access to public services and infrastructure, a greater focus on the local grassroots economy, and a stronger hand against the rich.

The step-by-step expansion of common prosperity fits well with China moving forward with its development, into the 2021-2049 New Era of Building Socialism. Having eliminated absolute poverty, the CPC’s stated next move is to eliminate relative poverty, and the common prosperity model has been proven to do well at that. The common prosperity model has already been tested in pilot areas like Huayuan village, in Zhejiang, where free education, medical care, and retirement are trialed, along with common ownership of companies and factories - so far it’s worked well, with the largest vitamin D3 manufacturer there, and average income five times the national average - without corresponding inequality.

Reform and Opening Up addressed the issues that the previous system, the ‘urban-rural price scissors’ (or ‘iron ricebowl’) created or couldn’t solve, and it seems like the common prosperity model could now address the issues that Reform and Opening Up created or couldn’t solve. Relative poverty is less affected by raw economic growth, and the common prosperity model has demonstrated its ability to counteract wealth inequality. It would have its own issues, and its implementation would need to be developed for different conditions, but with all the hundreds of pilot programs China’s engaging in, it seems they think this one is worthwhile, moving forwards.

Reform and Opening up was originally tested in pilot cities before being rolled out nationwide; coming into the New Era, we can easily expect China to carry out some big changes - moving from a moderately prosperous society in all respects to an advanced nation, at the forefront of global development. The common prosperity model is a logical next step for China, and one that the nation seems to be making.

If anyone could help me out, I'd greatly appreciate it. I've been scarcely buying small items and trying to eat more at work since my hours were cut, but the food I have now can't be heated on the stove/in a microwave if power goes out.

It's too late for me to get food today, but I may be able to get food tomorrow if stores are open (from what I'm hearing, Walmarts will vary likely be open.) Based on footage I'm seeing of places being hit by Ida right now, it's looking like electricity will most definitely be out, possibly for a few days if damage is as bad as it seems.

So, if I can get some help paying for nonperishable food for the next few days, that would be incredible. I have a gas stove, so I'll be able to cook. Just need small stuff to last for a little while.
