Finally....
Well I haven't been on in a while. My daughter had a really bad week last week and I was feeling pretty hopeless. She is on her new birth control, Seasonal or Seasonique and is on her last week of the first month. Last week she had a period and was in excruciating pain. She had bad clotting. She didn't want to call the doctor again because she is tired of hearing the same old stuff. Finally, I did call. We got into the doctor yesterday and she finally heard me when I said she is ALWAYS in pain, not just on her cycle. She said she couldn't prescribe any hydrocodone or anything with narcotics. So I asked her about Sprix. It is a nasal spray that the FDA recently approved that used to only be available intervenously. My brother had it when he sprained his ankle and after doing a bit of research I found out they are prescribing it to fibromyalgia patients. So I mentioned it to her doctor, who was unfamiliar with it but looked it up. She ended up prescribing it to her. It is very expensive and my insurance hardly covered any of it. They also normally do not stock it so we had to wait a day. $156 later, my daughter took it and within MINUTES was RUNNING up the stairs, laughing!!! She then went swimming! THIS is my daughter! It was all I could do not to cry. Is this the miracle I've been hoping for? Well, probably not, since my miracle would be for her not to have this condition at all. This is the first day, but for the first time she is feeling hopeful that her childhood can be "normal"ish. Maybe she can attend school in her senior year, go to prom, senior trip, etc... There are restrictions with this medication, you can only take it 5 days in a row then have to wait a week. But if you are suffering from this, you should definately ask your doctor about it.
