Why does your blog feature so much pornography if you are trying to help Mormons in the closet? Gay porn can be an addictive and slippery slope for the average male, let alone the religious and closeted one... exploring your sexuality is healthy but this combination of spiritual and sexual fantasy doesn’t sit well with me... so why combine them? Why not just have a separate lds porn blog if that’s your fetish... you’re burying great spiritual content with trash
Great questions. To be clear, I am not using the blog to encourage people to be better Mormons. I use the blog for Mormons to be better PEOPLE. Sexual repression, shame and isolation are tactics that have been effectively used within Mormonism to help push an agenda that teaches LGBT people are broken, sinful and not worthy of the same love that non LGBT members deserve. This is patently false and the anti-LGBT rhetoric taught in the Church is the slippery slope. My intent in creating the blog was never about the porn. This isn’t my fetish. Those who know me personally know that porn doesn’t make my world-go-round. However, I did recognize that porn was the common denominator in our journey as closeted LDS members. For most closeted Mormon men, they don’t cheat on their wives, they don’t talk about their sexuality, and they turn to porn to “extinguish the flames”. Porn often gives them the opportunity to get from one week–to the next–to the next. It’s kind of a “have your cake and eat it too” scenario. Mormonism is excellent at justification of sins: checking out gay porn is far less serious than cheating on my wife, so I’ll deal with the porn.
Once I created the blog, and it swelled to more than 100k followers, I needed to create an atmosphere where people would be okay expressing themselves and okay with the idea of not repressing their sexuality, fantasy and desires. I wanted YOU to feel comfortable about acknowledging and understanding your sexuality. I also needed to direct YOU to some resources that were “real world” and most of all a community of friends. Everyday I get 20 or so messages from closeted guys who still buy into this LDS rhetoric that they are “damaged goods.” My message to them is always the same: “I don’t see you as damaged. You were created by divine design and the quicker you accept and embrace that design more happiness and opportunity become available to you.”
If you want to look at MormonsInNarnia as a dirty porn blog, then yeah, it can be that. Some people are here just for the pics and videos, I get it. However, I think it’s a whole lot more. I have seen people leave the comfort of Narnia and find real life friends, authenticity and honesty. If it took a porn blog to get them to that point, then I’m okay with that–and you should be too.
