Double-check your citations against the Purdue OWL's MLA Formatting and Style Guide (especially if you're using a citation machine like EasyBib; I've noticed some issues with those citations).
In addition, the Purdue OWL is a fantastic resource for all of your writing needs.
Reminders
Come to class on Wednesday with RR #11 (typed, please), along with your Project 3 citations, your Easy Writer handbook, and an almost-finished final draft of Project 3.
Your final draft of Project 3 (along with your final draft author's note, rough draft and rough draft author's note, and peer review feedback) is due on Friday, Nov. 30.
Revisions for both Project 2 and Project 3 will be due by Wednesday, Dec. 12. Of course, you can always turn in any work early.

Nothing is due for Monday, but get ready to spend some time in class looking at examples of argumentative writing (namely letters to the editor).
You have two assignments for Wednesday, Nov. 28, however. First, Reading Response #11, a letter to the editor, is due; it must be typed. Second, bring your Project 3 citations, your Easy Writer handbook, and an almost-finished final draft of Project 3. We'll use Wednesday's class time to fix any remaining MLA issues.
Your final draft of Project 3 (along with your final draft author's note, your rough draft and rough draft author's note, and your peer review feedback) is due on Friday, Nov. 30. You'll receive your grade for Project 3 during the following week, and revisions will be due on Wednesday, Dec. 12.
Reading Response #11 (Due Wednesday, Nov. 28)
Your Task:
Letters to the editor are great advocacy tools. Writing a letter to the editor of a newspaper is an easy and effective way to reach an audience with your message.
Your eleventh reading response for English 1550 requires you to (surprise!) write a letter to the editor.
Your letter should focus on just one subject—although that subject is entirely up to you. This is your chance to pick a topic that you feel passionate about. For the purposes of this assignment, you aren't restricted to writing about current events, although your letter should discuss a somewhat timely and relevant issue. Think of new ways to discuss your topic, and try to present unique solutions to the problem. Consider (and write to) your audience.
Structure your letter like your argumentative essay.
In your introduction, get to your main point immediately. Provide important background information, and end your introduction with a strong and concise thesis statement.
In the body of your letter, cover all relevant points and facts, back up your claims, and advocate for your position. Don't forget to address and refute the opposition.
Finally, in your conclusion, restate your main point and offer a solution. Make your call to action.
Feel free to write in the first person, and don't be afraid to use real-life examples and experiences as supporting details. If you have relevant qualifications to the topic youʼre addressing, be sure to include them in your letter.
Many newspapers have strict limits on the length of letters and have limited space to publish them. Your letter should run between 325 and 500 words, or approximately a page and half to two pages of double-spaced text. Cut out the clutter, and make every word count. Do not exceed 500 words. Keep your letter short, focused, and interesting.
Remember to check for grammar, spelling, and punctuation mistakes. Additionally, vary sentence lengths, and use shorter paragraphs to make your letter more readable.
A hard copy of your eleventh reading response is due in class on Wednesday, Nov. 28. This assignment must be typed.
I don't claim credit for this MLA style checklist, although I wish I could (since it's that great). Use this as you're polishing up the final draft of Project 3. We'll spend some more time discussing MLA style in class during Week 15.

According to The New York Times' website, "In Room for Debate, The Times invites knowledgeable outside contributors to discuss news events and other timely issues."
Issues up for debate include whether Americans are reading more but learning less and if reality shows are worse than other TV programs.

Informal Assignment for Friday, Nov. 2
For Friday, come to class with two or three ideas for your argumentative essay. They don't have to be written down, but make sure you have something in mind. Remember to pick something that's fresh and debatable (and that you won't mind writing about for five or six pages).
