I just ended an argument with my dad. And i just want to move out. My parents are just so fucking emotionally immature, i can't. Sure we ended on "good terms" but i know it won't change anything as usual. Why do i always get in trouble for acting the same way as day. Why is it okay for them to sound annoyed when they are tired, but I can't. Yes I have been off latley BUT I AM DUCKING PMSING what the fuck do you want me to do? Turn it off? Bitch i wish I could. Sure he doesn't know that part but how hard is it to understand that your TEENAGE DAUGHTER has hormones yes I get annoyed easily okay it's my hormones. And you aren't much different are you? And then they say that they understand that they do the same things CHANGE IT THEN CHANGE IT. YOU ALWAYS FUCKING SAY THIS AND YOU DON'T CHANGE A FUCKING THING, I AM SO FUCKING TIRED OF THIS SHIT ESPECIALLY MY DADS. Let me just move out already pls i am begging you
IM SHAKING AND MY HEARD IS RACING I JUST STARTED MY FIRST ARUGMENT WITH A COMMENT BY A TEANAGE BOY ON TIKTOK OH MY SHAKING SO BADLY ITS OVER KAIZEN TOO
I saw a Pro Life comment defending Charlie Kirk comparing abortion to the holocaust, so here was my take on that as someone who is Pro Choice because Pinterest wouldn't let me comment it all. Also I've heard this argument from my own family before, so I wanted to lay my thoughts out.
Im not the best with words and this is a sensitive topic, so if I've said anything hurtful or wrong I am open to criticism.
It doesn't matter if there are more abortions than deaths in the Holocaust, they are not at all comparable.
A fetus is not a person, it could be, but it does not have the same rights as a person until it becomes one.
Someone is allowed, and should continue to be allowed, to exercise their right to get an abortion for a valid reason that is approved by a doctor, and is done at a certain point where the fetus is not yet a actual baby.
Meanwhile people in the Holocaust were living, functioning, adults and children with lives they were actively living. They had families, jobs, lovers, friends, hobbies. All that was stripped away from them, they were tortured and then brutally murdered just for living.
Most were Jewish, but were also killed because they were gay, socialists, POC, etc. All of them had the right to live as they were because they were real people. And yet it was stolen from them.
A fetus does not have those same rights because it isn't alive. Even if it has the potential to be. Even then, it is removed before it becomes something that can feel pain or emotion, so there is no cruelty, it hasn't lost anything but what you project onto it.
Like when a child's toy is broken, the kid may feel something for it and feel sad for it, but the toy isn't in any actual pain. It's not alive, even if the kid wanted it to be, or thought it was.
Someone can get an abortion for many reasons, rape, medical reasons/complications, not being able to care for a kid, to avoid the trauma of child birth, or maybe they just change their mind. And it is never an easy choice. It's Healthcare, not murder. In fact, it's kinder than bringing a child into the world when their parent won't be able to properly care for them.
Pro Life people claim to care about children, but i never hear them say anything about children in poverty, kids with abusive parents/how the justice system often fails to help or save kids or uphold their rights, how flawed the education system is. Etc.
You care about children until they're actual people that disagree with you or aren't like you, you defend them until they stop being a toy you can project your feelings and beliefs on to.
So no, abortion is not comparable to the horror and suffering of the Holocaust, and don't you dare say "im just talking about the numbers", because even if you are, that's taking away from the severity of what happened in the Holocaust to create an argument that fits your narrative.
The teleological argument is about the design of the universe. It suggests that the world is so complex, it must have a designer. The intricate details of nature seem intentional.
Is it all by chance?
Consider these points:
The universe is complex.
Patterns are everywhere.
Design implies a designer.
This argument is used in philosophy and theology. It raises big questions about life's purpose.
When I first saw this comic, I immediately interpreted it as a metaphor about the cowardice of online racists. People who will say something denigratory about poc, then respond to the mildest form of pushback as though it were a personal attack.
So it was quite a surprise to me when I learned that the intended interpretation is on the side of the woman. That the sea lion is intended to be seen as harassing her, a completely inappropriate response to her innocent comment.
Of course, a situation where someone is pursuing you, in the physical world or online, invading your privacy, or stalking you is harassment. I don't believe in harassing people for the statements or arguments they make.
But the term 'sea-lioning' seems to be brought up to indicate that any question about a statement is harassment. When I see it used, it's always to indicate that whatever they said needs no justification, that their conclusion needs no preceding argument, and that even asking them to persuade you of their point is evidence that you are a bad person.
It pisses me off. Why? Why can't you answer a simple question? Why are you willing to a make a statement, but unwilling to defend it? Why can't you at least explain what reasoning led you to the statement?
Why should I, who am being attacked by your statement, just shut up? Why can't I also offer my own opinion? Why is it that you can talk, but I can't?
Of course, if I were in this sea-lion's place, I would not continue pursuing the argument, especially in the online setting, where people can simply see that my question was never responded to.
