“Yeah. About that… It seems like the Scientists have a way to steal any abilities we have away. That, or water them down significantly so they’re relatively harmless. When I first got here, I couldn’t even use the Future Force, and Jack couldn’t even stay out of his card for more than 15 minutes at a time.”

“I don’t know how they were able to do it, but I do know that the Scientists will return your powers if you fulfill certain conditions. Like, if you’re here for three months. Weird things also happen in the city sometimes, and if you contribute to fixing them, the Scientists might also give something back to you if you’re lucky. It’ll take a long time, though…”

Tasuku was completely clueless about Terumi’s true intentions, and thought that it would be best to give her all of the information that he could.

“Unfortunately, that’s all I know about that. I don’t really know how they can actually control how long our Buddies can remain in the world or anything. Is there anything else you want to know about?”

The grimace on Terumi’s face worsened by far, her nose scrunched up and her green eyes huge with disapproval. None of that was wanted, it didn’t sound pleasing at all. Why should she help these scientists when they trapped her here against her own will in the first place?! Ludicrous! They had given her her deck and case and she was able to activate Disaster Force but it was, as he said, “watered down” in a sense.

She tried with all of her might to fix her face and not show how ridiculously displeased she looked at the thought of any of that.

Like hell she would put herself through such nonsensical, unworthy--

How about I find a way to break out of here? Even if I have to go up against those crummy scientists myself.

“They certainly know how to play God, don’t they? Kidnapping children and locking them here... the nerve. I would like to know a few more things, however. More importantly... who else from our world resides here?”

In the year and a half he’d been stranded in this city, Rouga had, for all intents and purposes, placed his time as a member of Disaster behind him–both out of consideration for the fact that Kyouya had long since cast him out, and because of the simple fact that he was no longer the same person he had been then. He had since moved forward, and though he was hardly the saintly and upstanding citizen people like Tasuku might have liked him to be, bit by bit, he was beginning to forge his own path rather than following one laid out for him.

That version of himself…had been weak. Had been cowardly. Had been willfully blind for so long. He acknowledged every mistake he’d made at that time and had worked to right them here, but it remained something of an unpleasant subject no matter what he did and no matter how many years passed–

–so to suddenly find a person from that point in his life in front of him now, even if his memories of her were few (if any at all), was more than a little startling.

What was her name…? Rouga could recall that she’d been a relatively recent addition to Disaster, but he’d made no effort to speak to or get to know her back then. Kyouya would probably know…maybe Tasuku as well, though he’d never seen the Purgatory Knight attempt to mingle with anyone outside of his assigned teammates during the Gaen Cu–

“I can’t believe you’re here too…. Don’t tell me Shido shoved you into some pit as well!”

Without thinking, Rouga scoffed.

“Shido would be in a full body cast before he so much as reached out.”

…

Wait. Putting her name and his complicated feelings here aside for just a moment–

“… You got shoved into a pit?”

How…lame. Lame, and so typical of a little rat like Shido Magoroku.

Terumi was not all that surprised at that. Rouga was a rough character and could do well for himself in a physical fight with no issues. She knew nothing about him aside from the simple fact that he lived with and grew up with the Gaen family, directly at Kyouya’s side. How envious she was of that, but even then, she couldn’t let mortal jealousy inflict damage on a chance at getting to know him.

Not as if it were an easy task since he had been reserved and distant, cold even to most of the members of Disaster. She didn’t blame him for Shido or Davide’s treatment either. In fact if she could trip Shido on the constant, she would with no problems. Or... with what he’d recently done to her, she would much rather grab him by the back of his head and ram his face into a brick wa--

No no, Terumi dear. Don’t think like that. Don’t lower yourself to his level.

Her expression went flat at the thought before she picked it back up, feeling embarrassment creep over her from his question.

“He... he didn’t physically shove me or anything! Don’t you remember when I shoved him over with ease just from standing up from my chair? He wouldn’t have a chance in a fight against me, even if I’m a weak little girl.” She stomped her foot in emphasis.

“No. He had some kind of trapped door in the school president’s office and opened it when I stepped over it. But that’s the last of my memory before waking up here.”

Gao paused upon being addressed, turning to the speaker. He wasn’t surprised to be facing someone from their world. He kinda taken it into stride that they may drop in and out of the city now.

The one before him though was… Kuchinawa Terumi, if he remembered right.

“That’s right! You’re one of Tetsuya’s friend too, aren’t you? Kuchinawa Terumi…?” At least, from how Tetsuya seemed adamant to take his place in fighting her during the Gaen Cup, he assumed they were. Something like that.

“Don’t worry about it. It was our fault for not watching where we were going. I’m just glad you got better.”

Though… she used Disaster Force, did she not? Was she in leagues with Kyouya still?

“Are you okay?” He doesn’t remember if she was naturally timid or not. He remembers sudden outbursts but…

Tetsuya’s friend. She could do nothing but scowl at that notion, taking into consideration all that had happened before Shido brought her to a downfall. That out going, loud, noisy, irritating dribble banana brained Buddyfighter and his equally annoying Demon companion Asmodai... yes. They had a fight of course, resulting in Terumi winning, but at what cost?

Tetsuya caused her to question her loyalty to Kyouya, the one person who had given her a better image of herself. She became afraid of her own ideals because of him. But being a friend of Gao, she couldn’t show that to his face so she let an awkward smile play on her lips.

She was amazed that Gao could at least remember her name. Terumi wasn’t very memorable.

“Mhm, that’s right! And you are Mikado Gao, of course. But at least you realized your mistakes and had helped me.” She spoke those words coolly, refined, in a rather conceited tone.

“I’m a little jumbled here. Who wouldn’t be, after being forced to arrive in a place like this? I still don’t understand what’s going on, or even why you are here.”

The stiffening of the posture, the paling of the face, the slight dilation of her pupils–Terumi’s guilty conscience spoke for her. There really was no reason for her to deny it, but at least she had come clean right from the get-go when prompted.

Maybe there wasn’t a reason to suspect that she was hiding anything… But if she was still a member of Disaster, and they stood in direct opposition to the Buddy Police, he’d have to watch his back too. He didn’t know whether Terumi had been in contact with Kyouya at all. It also wasn’t unheard of for timelines to not match up either… Another factor that could complicate things, but perhaps it would work in Tasuku’s favour this time.

It wouldn’t do to suddenly get offed here in all places, after all… And Tasuku couldn’t ignore Terumi’s appeal for help. She was a civilian before everything else, and it was Tasuku’s job to protect civilians.

“I’m going to trust in your words for now, Terumi-san, because I know what it’s like to be thrust into Hive City without any warning.”

“Whatever our status was in the past doesn’t matter here.,, So I’ll help you to the best of my ability. What is it that you need help with? If it’s a tour of the city, or general directions, i can show you that much.”

That was all it took, and she tried her best not to show the shock in her face with the way he responded to her plea for help. Little did Tasuku know that her helplessness was a mere facade, a way to worm herself into one of his soft spots and bend him to her will.

Gee. With how easy that was, maybe I won’t need my mind controlling Buddy Skill after all!

Just as if that thought alone was enough to melt away the rest of the ice, she relaxed completely and broadened that secretly sinister smile. Little was she aware that this place had a way of warping how people thought and perceived things. She would learn soon enough.

“First of all, I want to know how these scientists were able to tamper with the Disaster Force. I’m able to activate it, but I can’t use it for anything aside from bettering my vision. Did you have problems when you first arrived here, Ryuuenji-kun?”

Hers was a face that Tasuku never thought he’d see again. She had mysteriously disappeared after her match with Kurodake Tetsuya in the Gaen Cup, and Tasuku had heard no more from her. His own memories of his time in Disaster were a rather hazy, but he was certain that Terumi had never conversed with the Purgatory Knight–in fact, Tasuku was more certain still that Terumi hadn’t even learned his identity before she vanished off the face of the planet.

Still, Terumi was exhibiting what appeared to be nervous behaviour… Did she still have something to hide? Was she working with Kyouya?

“So you know who I am. And you’re…Kuchinawa Terumi, right?”

“I could say the same about you, Terumi-san. I didn’t think I’d find Gaen Kyouya’s subordinates popping up here.”

Yes… It was best to be direct with what he knew right off the bat. Beating around the bush wasn’t something Tasuku was good at doing. It wasn’t as if Tasuku was going to do anything with this information either, if it happened that Terumi’s relations with Kyouya were still fresh.

After all, he was guilty of allowing Kyouya to sway him off of the right path too, wasn’t he? He could no longer penalize someone who appeared to be in the same position.

Terumi’s profile stiffened immediately, the fear growing colder and colder the more Tasuku spoke. That was right. Tasuku had seen her at Kyouya’s side before and there was no mistaking the bright indicator that she was a member of Disaster...

Did the Buddy Police exist in this city? She hoped not, but knowing her luck, she wouldn’t get off that easy. Even if they hadn’t, knowing Tasuku Ryuuenji, he’d pursue her nonetheless. He was as idealistic as anyone she knew and in a world where adults were nothing but glitchy, imperfect beings, he had to be. Any of the children had to.

“R-right... I guess there’s no reason for me to try to hide it, after all.” That stiffness eased just a bit and she twiddled her thumbs, peering at him over the rim of her glasses shyly. Even if they were enemies, getting to speak to the famous Boy Wonder Cop was....

“But listen... I’m not here to cause any trouble, I promise! I can’t even properly use Disaster Force, let alone make my cards real or anything. I have no idea where we are or what’s going on. I’m being honest.”

“Please... please help me! I know it’s so much for an enemy to ask for, I realize this. But I’m so scared. I just want to go home.”

“I, uh...” Terumi had been looking for someone to give her directions, but when a rather busty woman placed her hands on her hips and stared down at her expectantly, she felt all willpower drain from her body, feeling could and quite nervous. She patted at her sides while staring off, that awkward simplicity not doing much for her in the veil of trying to make connections here.

“So! Miss... do you... know what a b-2 is? It was written on this piece of paper, you see?”

Alright. This time around, Terumi had to take her glasses off, rub her eyes, and adjust them back on her face and lean forward to get a better look at those bright fiery red tones of hair sprouting from beneath that cabi hat. His entire presence reminder her of the sun, so to speak--

“Oh! Aren’t you Mikado Gao? You were Kurdake Tetsuya’s friend, if I’m not mistaken.” She awkwardly slung her hands behind her back and looked down, an embarrassed tint of pink coating her freckled cheeks.

“I remember the day you used your Buddy Skill to get me to the nurse’s office. Thanks again for that...”

Uh-oh, he’s here too! I can’t believe this! The first instinct was to just bolt, to run around the corner and hide somewhere, and hope that he didn’t find her. Of all people to run into, in this strange and bizarre phenomenon, was Ryuuenji Tasuku the Buddy Police.

This was no luck she’d ever want to deal with, this was for certain. Running would give everything away, leading him into insight that she was a part of something major, and she didn’t wish to give herself away. Terumi was sure Tasuku wasn’t aware of her stance in Kyouya’s plans, after all.

“S-so... i-it’s the Buddy Police, Ryuuenji Tasuku!” With her hands behind her back, she sported the biggest smile she could muster, even if her nervousness was making her tremble in her shoes. “What a wonder to find you in such a place like this...!”

“Whooooaaaah....” Wide, sparkling green eyes started their travel from toe to head, taking in every familiar detail down from the color of his Disaster outfit, to those shining, riveting beautiful silver tresses. For sure, little mini Cerberus at his feet, those three heads tilting as he witnessed Terumi taking in that nostalgic aura.

Turning a corner and nearly running into him wouldn’t have been a good way to reunite with him, at least not in her opinion. Terumi and Aragami Rouga had never spoken to each other before. She was a little more than just intimidated by his strong and reserved presence, though she did admire him from afar. He was one of Gaen Kyouya’s closest Disaster members, and she envied his spot in the group.

“I can’t believe you’re here too.... Don’t tell me Shido shoved you into some pit as well!”

“Y-you... aren’t you--?” Her words stopped short as only a first name came to mind. Sofia. Terumi couldn’t remember for the life of her if she had helped Shido toss her into the pit beneath the school or not, and she didn’t want to be overly friendly if that had been the case.

Her eyes narrowed cautiously, a hand gripping her core gadget in the pocket of her overalls for safety just in case. It wouldn’t do her much good considering Disaster Force could only strengthen her eyesight at best thanks to their wonderful scientific hosts.

“I didn’t think you would be here too!”

“Whoa! Sorry, sorry!” Sora, with lollipop in mouth, had been walking backward, enjoying the view of the sky (for once) and trying to find something to do to alleviate his boredom. He figured he would bump into someone like this but his mind was off thinking of other things and before he knew it, his hip bumped into someone. Luckily it wasn’t enough to knock them or himself over.

He turned around to look, and saw a young girl in a pair of overalls and red hair. Were those freckles? Sora never saw someone like that before. He took a speedy observation of her person and saw that she was harboring what looked like a core deck case on her as well. Another Buddyfighter?! Had she just arrived? He never saw her with Noboru’s group of friends before.

“You okay, miss? Guess I should’ve realized I’d run into someone.”

Getting knocked to the side was more than shocking, and she was embarrassed to hear the squeak-like yelp that slipped from between her lips as she had been blind sided. That wasn’t the first time someone in this busy terrain had run into her and she was just about fed up with it all, and it still irked her regardless.

In a huff she stood up straight and picked her glasses off of the sidewalk and examined them, trying to make sure that no damage had been done before she looked up and over at the boy that had “assaulted” her with a rather harsh glare.

She placed the rims back on her nose and pushed them up, hands going to her hips.

“So you were aware that you were walking around like a space case buffoon?” This boy got quite the scoff. Terumi had no time for these types. “I’m just fine! You’re lucky my glasses aren’t broken or something.”

There was a familiar person standing in front of one of the many shop’s windows as he walked by - or, he thought they were familiar. Noboru’s memory was a little fuzzy, especially while trying to recall that red head of hair.

Glasses, overalls, freckles– Wait a minute! She’s that girl that lost to Kurodake Tetsuya in the Gaen Cup!

“I know you, don’t I? What was your name again, hm… Kuchinawa?”

“Hm....?” Terumi hadn’t been in this place for very long, she had emerged from the room she woke up in only a couple of hours ago. The Buddyfighter found herself in quite the compromising situation. After all, she had been dropped into the pits beneath Aibo Academy by Shido Magoroku and then suddenly woke up, only to be greeted by a strange man in a white lab coat. Nothing he said made any sense so far and it was hard for her to connect the dots. Not only that, but it some of her memories seemed to be missing. One thing after another and she was shoved to the side.

I know he doesn’t like me, she thought, but he’ll pay for what he’s done!

It was then that someone’s voice soon distracted her from her thoughts and she looked over her shoulder. This boy, she had seen him before but she couldn’t quite remember.

“Yes, Kuchinawa Terumi.” From what she remembered, anyhow. “I’m sorry. I feel like I know you, though I can’t recall....”
