Interview with Dorian Fountain
Witness the Birth of Pen Art
Why all birth isn't as icky and gross as you'd think
Well, I've had the pleasure of witnessing a birth unfold, however, it may not quite be birth you may have in mind. See, I had the pleasure of meeting with Dorian Fountain, the CEO of Pen Art. Pen Art is his baby, his brainchild conceived from solutions needed for the continuous disenfranchised pool of artistic people. So keep reading as we're going to introduce to you to Pen Art and its proud papa right now.
When I asked Dorian what exactly Pen Art was he said,
“Honestly, Raw creativity in the sense of how things are before it got corporate. It’s what any kind of music, any kind of art such as dance or graffiti art, whatever you make it, what it is before money became involved. Pen Art is nothing more than ART. Expression and giving the spotlight to art. We’re here to help the artist to express their ideas.”
So you're probably thinking “Wait, don't we already have that, hidden in some secret underground that only the cool kids know about?” Why should we check out Pen Art? He replied,
“I started Pen Art to give artists a chance who might not get a shot at the spotlight. I don’t believe that you should wait until you get signed in order to be recognize, that’s a bunch of bullshit. I wanted to give those who have talent who might not otherwise get recognition, a shot. Make their own name, make their own lane, make their own industry. Make their own world, let the people decide who should be famous and not the corporation.”
Let the people decide. Hmm, it has a nice ring to it. No wait, isn't that what American Idol does? Get the people to vote for a new Idol every season? So basically it's just about music, right? This was his response,
“No, Pen Art not just all about music. It’s all artist expression—Modeling, Books-different types of literature, of course music, dance and even food. Culinary is an art, a lot of people don’t necessarily think it is an art form but honestly it’s a true a art form. It’s just an expression of all artistic art forms. No matter how big to how small it is. From culinary to music, from models to actors. Those who go the extra mile to better their art and take it serious on what they feel it should be. The ones that are truly dedicated. That’s what Pen Art is here for, to give them that opportunity to give them the expression.”
Cool. So if you're an artist (or know someone who is) and need the extra exposure, this would be the place to find new supporters, right? But if you're an artist, you also know that there are companies who are always out here with one agenda then turn it around to become something else (hint: money!). As the saying goes “It takes money to make money” so how much would we have to cough up to be featured?
Dorian said, “My vision for Pen Art is that it never loses its authenticity. Being just about the art, we don’t want corporate to come in and make it all about money. One thing I learned from marking class was from an unknown artist, “the day it becomes solely about the dollar, is when I want to shut it down”. I thought that was cool, his company is worth billions but the whole goal is to just make and create art when It comes to marking and aspects of advertising. I don’t care about the dollar; I want Pen Art to be like that. I want people to always realize that the whole vision of Pen Art is purely for artist to express and show and putting the spotlight on them. Not just worry if it’s going to make us a buck. Even if we don’t make anything, as long as the artist that we’re putting up is worth it, then to me that’s more valuable than a dollar. A human being is way more valuable than a dollar any day. I would take a human being and all of their abilities and creative ideas over a check. Why? Because you use people to hire those who have these skills already.”
So there it is ladies and gents. If you have a soft spot for supporting unsigned talent, Pen Art is where you need to go.
