What’s the difference between Coast Redwood and Giant Sequoia trees?
Redwoods (Sequoia sempervirens) grow taller, thrive in moderate climates, and need lots of moisture (think: rain and fog). They grow within 30 miles of the coast in northern California and extreme southern Oregon.
Giant Sequoias (Sequoiadendron giganteum) grow wider in diameter, they’re drought-resistant, and frost tolerant (have you seen a giant sequoia in the snow?). They’re found on the western slopes of the Sierra Nevada mountain range in central California, like at Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks.
