IT SHOULD BE A BUSY DAY, so he decided to treat himself to fresh coffee this time around, since he swears he can taste the difference. if he had known that sunny would be here, there’s a chance that he wouldn’t have, but now it’s too late. of course they have the same order, and of course the girl gets snappy with him about it immediately. he scoffs lightly, more in confusion than anger. when she begins to put her fingers on his, he instinctively pulls his hand away, as though he’s touched something that makes his stomach churn. “ i was here first, actually. i was in the bathroom, ” he counters, staring at her in disbelief. ( there’s only a hint of it, though ; this is the exact kind of dramatics he’d expect from her. needless to say, he doesn’t understand the praise the girl constantly receives. ) when she holds the cup closer towards her, he fights the urge to roll his eyes. “ i’m not going to take it from your hands, sunny. that would be rude. ”
everything about romeo lee rubs her the wrong way, has her gripping her coffee tighter and wondering what on earth the rest of the world sees in him ( it doesn’t cross her mind that maybe she’s been the one in the wrong the whole time ). “ my name is misun. people who insult my baking don’t get to call me sunny. ” stubbornly, she sips at the caramel latte, further claiming it as hers and hers only. “ are you insinuating i’m the rude one here? you must be absolutely delusional, romeo lee. ”
the first thing he does when he sees sunny this morning? takes a little bit of buttercream icing and dabs it on her nose. there’s really no reason for it, other than .. gray was bored and there was icing near his hand. that’s all there is to it.
his loud laughter can be heard throughout the little shop, long before any customers are slated to come in and likely before she can even react to his attack. gray isn’t thinking about retaliation, or how inappropriate it is to dab icing on your boss’s nose. he’s just here for a good time. “ that’s a good look on you - ” gray teases, eyes lighting up with mischievous charm. “ who knew that icing would look good on anything except a cake. ”

she’s never met somebody that radiates the same energy gray does, and as soon as she met him she knew she had to keep him in her life somehow. that’s how sunny ended up here, staring cross-eyed at pink frosting on her nose and then putting on her best disappointed boss face. “ that was very unprofessional of you, gray. i’m disappointed in you. ” of course, it’s hard to take her seriously with the smidge of icing on her nose, and the bright smile that breaks her facade as a giggle slips past her lips. “ you don’t know what you’ve just started, ” she teases back, drags two fingers through the icing in the bowl and quickly smearing it over his cheek. “ this is war. ”
all sunny wanted was to take her caramel frappe and go back to the bakery, finish the cake she’d been working on - but as soon as she reaches a hand out for her order, a larger hand beats her to it. her eyes widen and she turns to the person, apology sitting on the tip of her tongue. then she realizes who it is, the apology dies out and her brows furrow slightly. “ why are you stealing my caramel frappe? i was here first. ” it’s almost childlike, the annoyed pout on her lips before she’s peeling his fingers back and taking it for herself. she holds the cup close to her chest, as if he’s going to steal it again, and fixes him with a glare.
she enters the kitchen with caution, unfamiliar with her new surroundings but intrigued nonetheless. irene is more than excited for this shoot, especially because she’s been following the other on instagram for a little while now. she’s lucky to be behind the scenes of it all. ❛ hi, good morning ! ❜ she greets the famous chef upon seeing her, a big and friendly smile on her lips. she holds out a cup of tea to her, fresh from the starbucks around the corner. ❛ sorry for the early call time, but i got you a drink. i didn’t know what you liked so i got tea. caffeinated, of course. ❜ @ensoleilements
sunny always gets a little nervous opening up her kitchen to people, has been fretting about her space since two hours before the call time, making sure there’s not a speck of air out of place. the sweet smell of icing already permeates her kitchen, a few cupcakes sitting out on the counter when irene shows up. “ oh, that’s so sweet of you, ” sunny coos, reaching for the tea with both hands and sending a beaming smile her way. “ i’m an early riser, so i really don’t mind. and i made you something! um, these are strawberry champagne cupcakes, nothing too special, but... ” she gently picks one up, light pink icing perfectly piped, handing it carefully to irene.
talking about trainee life always brings him melancholy. he wonders if sunny can hear it in his voice when they talk.
woon tries not to be negative too often, and he’s always someone that wishes others can follow their dreams. when those dreams involve the industry though, it’s hard for him not to give a word of warning. in sunny’s case, though, it’s different - she’s successful in something entirely different; simple curiosity is laced in her voice with what could have beens. he doesn’t want to crush her ideals, but there’s still an open wound that he’s not sure will ever quite heal.
“ i think you’re better off, you know. ” he turns his head to her when he speaks, then looks off in the distance somewhere as if he’s taken far away. “ you created something really great here. something that most of us can only hope for. ” woon chuckles, looking down in his lap. “ being a trainee is only pretty on the outside. ”

misun prides herself on knowing when to shut up, when tension lingers in the air a little thicker than before and leaves her wondering exactly what happened to put one of her closest friends in a mood like this. gently, she puts a hand on his shoulder to give it a friendly rub before smiling at him. “ there’s no chance of me abandoning this now, i don’t think i could leave canada if i tried. i just can’t help but thinking about what-if’s, is all. maybe there’s another sunny and woon in a different universe that are happy as idols. a universe where they aren’t treated the way they are here. ” she squeezes his shoulder before letting go, looking down at her watch to check the timer on the cakes in the oven.
“ hey, speaking of happy. i saved a few cupcakes just for you, if you want them. they’re my special angel food recipe. ”

yu misun, known as misun yu in canada, or sunny yu, was originally born in busan, south korea, where she was raised until the age of sixteen before immigrating to toronto, canada.
sunny has always been just that - shining brightly and happily everywhere she went. it wasn’t until she was sixteen that that spark faded slightly - her parents passed away in a car accident and she found herself in a foreign country with her only remaining family, her aunt.
acclimating was difficult, learning english and attending school while finding her own coping mechanisms - but misun blossomed after only a year. she had more freedom to express herself, started realizing her own dreams and making a plan to achieve them as soon as she graduated.
sunny attended a very prestigious culinary academy, got a degree as a pastry chef, and with money left over from her parent’s inheritance, she opened up her own bakery.
she struggled for awhile, but she was always determined and willing to do whatever it took, so it’s no surprise that now she’s a famous chef, baking & decorating wedding cakes, booked months in advance, and a recent member of the love alarm badge club.
now that that’s over with, here’s just some lil headcanons!
sunny is a virgo through and through, like... she’s pretty intense, likes things done a certain way & all of that, but she’s also a great friend
sunny is on the aromantic spectrum, not ace, just aro. this means that she doesn’t tend to see people in a romantic way, isn’t really interested in romantic relationships, doesn’t really develop crushes or that sort of thing.
sunny has never rung anybody’s love alarm.
she does enjoy getting the attention from love alarm, knowing that she’s loved by tons of people, she just knows she’ll never be able to ring anyone else’s and she’s learning to accept that.
because like, lbr, sunny really thought she was broken for awhile, like she didn’t know aromantic was a label that existed, and love is everywhere all the time, why wasn’t she interested in falling in love - that sort of thing.
she’s super sweet, she’s my literal angel, but she’s entirely way too fussy and doesn’t open up easily. she’s not closed off, per se, she THINKS she’s an open book - but she’s never very forthcoming when talking about herself, would always rather talk about something or someone else because she loves learning new things, meeting new people, & hearing new stories.
i’m working on both of my intros but i want all of you to know that i just referred to culinary school as “chef school” because i couldn’t think of the word for culinary so pls... don’t @ me if something doesn’t make sense
