Plausibly an R&R at 2 is better on the job market than a full on publication at 7, lol. Which would not change the fact that I’d possibly be committing a professional ethics misdeed. Hahahahahaha

Ok you all have like three hours to vote. My paper is out for peer review at the second best journal. It could get a rejection (very likely) or a revise & resubmit (very unlikely) at this point. The version of it that is being reviewed is kind of sloppy. I also have a limited time opportunity to submit (a less sloppy version of) it to the seventh best journal. It will almost certainly get accepted there because invited. To do this I would have to withdraw it from 2. Note that the gap between a “top 5” and a 5-10 publication is about a million times larger than you’d think, as in, if I get it in 2, my life will be insanely awesome from here on out. There is a similarly large gap between 5-10 and 11 on down, though. So 7 is good, and I very much need a publication rather than zero publications. What should I do. Extremely high risk extremely extremely high reward, or low risk moderately high reward.

Hahahaha remember this? I did send the “I withdraw” email to 2 but I still just got an R&R from that very journal for the sloppy version. And the better version is currently under review at 7. So I’m emailing all my advisors like I have a “what is best for me?” question AND a professional ethics question. Hahahahahahaha

Decided that the guy on my committee who was like “you’re not doing metaphysics for real” doesn’t know what he’s talking about even if he is the distinguished professor of whatever. Some other guy cold emailed me and invited me to a workshop for people working in a redacted framework where redacted is a techy metaphysics tool…and I am literally working in it……

out of curiosity. how many books do u read per year? how many fiction books vs academic books?

I actually do not know how many fiction books -- I don't have a goodreads and I am well not a careful person such that I always start to keep a list then forget. My guess is in the summer/winter I read between 10 and 15 per month and then during the academic year lately I have read like 3-5/month. I can tell you for sure that I read exactly zero academic books all the way through each year because I am in an article field

Ok I saw the movie “hit man” and it suffered from a lame voiceover and a sort of slow start. However, on the balance. It was funny. And kind of sexy. Like a 40s screwball comedy in places. The movies are back????

People noting this anniversary reminding me again that it is such an insane failure of the pro-choice movement that we do not as a nation think of George Tiller as a civil rights hero and additionally a martyr at the level of MLK Jr. or a Kennedy. So, you know, do your part, etc.
