WELT YANG from HONKAI STAR RAIL/HONKAI IMPACT 3RD

Welt Yang is a current member of the Astral Express, trailblazing across the galaxy with the others.

Originally from "Earth" in Honkai Impact 3rd, he disappeared from there at the end of Part 1 and has seemingly been with the Express since.

Welt is a Herrscher, a humanoid who was created to destroy humanity. He is the former host of the 2nd Herrscher of Reason, and the former Sovereign of Anti-Entropy. He's already saved his own world several times, and is severely weakened as a result.

He wields the Imaginary Element, and as well as the Divine Key, allowing him to manipulate gravity and time.

Also he's a professional animator and has experience programming video games. And a dad, canonically, and also emotionally to the Astral Express young'in's.

Despite his appearances, he's over 80 years old, he's grandpa.

THE STRANGER CAN SAY THAT ONE AGAIN, grace having been left to his wondering on what, exactly, was that strange phenomena was. black holes were to obey certain laws of gravity, a thing which that endless void seems absent of, given the fact that this entire city, let alone planet, remains in full tact. ❝ Can't really miss that one, ❞ he interjects, a hand lifting to rub at his faces, causing one side of his glasses to fall from his ear and dangle oh-so-graciously from the right side of his face. not only that, but there seems no effort to correct it at all, instead electing to carry on their more scientific conversation.

❝ I haven't had a chance to step foot on it yet. ❞ though what the brunette says is true from the multiple times his telescope has landed in that particular quadrant. ❝ But! It's consistently just behind the moon. Meaniiiing... ❞ he gives a little roll of his two index fingers, as if passing the proverbial ball to his fellow... scientist? was he a scientist? he seems to know a lot about space and orbital reasoning for a station, at least. maybe he was just an avid astronomer who had a thing or two of knowledge tucked away deep in his brain for moments just like this.

whether it was more a civilian base was another question to be answered in time, the teacher leaning over to a notebook, scribbling a few words down before long. were welt to chance a peak, he would see a flurry of patched together notes. earth-like planets in milky way: kepler-452b, proxima centauri b, trappist-1e, ???. government factions: stars (?). check space station for civilian base. it goes on, a list of notes to consider in whatever puzzle he trudges through.

❝ Yeah. Uh. I don't know if it's an island yet by my own evidential collection. With the weird... mist thingies swirling around out there, it could be a peninsula. But everyone I've met here seems pretty convinced, ❞ he partially agrees, figuring it best to corroborate what little they can in the moment. it was logical, laying piece by piece down to digest mentally. ❝ Have you considered it could be some kinda... top secret government project thing? Special clearance, super high-tech environments. Cause that's all I got to explain that. ❞ one finger presses roughly onto the map on the ground, circling a few motions onto it as if to accentuate what he means.

Ah, he's being tested - a fellow scientist, he can't help but smirk at the question, "Like as not, it means the station has been tidal locked to the moon - it rotates, the moon rotates," He begins, taking a glance at the other researcher's notes, "And if it's consistently there, then it's not that it doesn't switch positions, it's that it is in the same orbit."

At least, that would be his assumption. His ability to manipulate physica and gravity aside, there shouldn't be too far of a change in the laws of this place.

At least he hoped, or else when he regained the Divine Key, there may be a problem should he need to use it.

"That is a fair point - island is just an assumption, but it could very well be something entirely different. Certainly this combination of biomes is not something that I could distinctly point to from my own planet." And an island would be able to be controlled...It almost feels as though it was like a movie from when he was a kid, where they could keep dinosaurs in different captive states as needed...

"I suppose I have considered that it could be one of two things, for my part." He holds up one finger, "First, exactly as you said. Some measure of conspiracy, although I do doubt that it could be only at a government level. For my part, I, ah..." He trails off, considering.

"Well, I doubt that simple government agents regardless of security level could strip away my own preternatural abilities. So," he holds up his second finger, "I imagine it is some sort of multi-dimensional anomaly. Having already experienced at least one on my own - two, perhaps, counting another recent incident, that seems the most probable to me. Unfortunately, that means I may be the local expert on the subject which is...Disheartening, to say the least."

WAS IT WEIRD THAT HE WAS WATCHING LIKE THIS? that, in those few moments he had managed to sit comfortably down, make a few instant noodles, and then start to eat them, a stranger has come and commandeered his telescope. not only that, but he seems to be using it properly, adjusting it effortlessly from its position to pinpoint precision for what it is the man seems to be seeking. only when he is finally noticed does the other finally address him 一 apologizing even 一 regarding his current investigation. nor can he blame him for not exactly seeing where it is he sits, obscured by not only the darkness of night but due to being tucked against a tree a bit further off, covered even more with a small throw blanket over his shoulders.

noodles still hang unceremoniously from his mouth as he listens until he slurps一

❝ Yeah. You and me both, ❞ he replies, at long last, upon finishing that particular bite. one hand swirls the styrofoam cup, chopsticks held against the flimsy top to keep the heat trapped so it doesn't all escape at once. ❝ I did the same thing when I first got here. ❞ after i got done screaming about that big hole in the center, his thoughts finish, though he wasn't going to exactly admit that much.

there is a pause as he takes the time to set aside the partially finished meal, both hands now holding themselves in front of him while leaning his chest against both knees casually. ❝ Oh. And if you see a space station up there, you're not seeing things. ❞

He can't help but snort when he looks back and takes in the guy's appearance in full. Likely some sort of scientist - he can pinpoint some of the traits he would associate with one. Throw blanket, portable food, perfectly calibrated telescope.

"After observing the oddly shaped not-quite-black-hole, I'm sure." Looking through the telescope again briefly, he leans back and nods. "That is, certainly, a space station in orbit. Although I can hardly imagine what they're observing - it looks like a civilian base, if anything. Which may be...more concerning..." He's fairly certain he could see the various machinations one could see in agricultural biomes.

Moving away from the telescope, he moves to sit down near the tree, setting his cane against the trunk and settling with the book in his lap, page still held open by a finger.

"It's difficult to imagine why they would need an agricultural space on the station. Although I suppose given that this is an island- no, that's hardly right, either. Have you seen this map?" He pulls the map he'd picked up out of his pocket, laying it out on the grace.

"Biomes of wildly varying temperature and seasonality, on a single island."

"Are there others here from our trailblaze journey?" He sets his tea down on the table, looking at the menu at the cafe they had settled at. Finding Sunday was a relief, knowing that he wasn't simply jettisoned into space alone once more - that this was seemingly more of a typical event that could befall the Astral Express.

That, and Sunday was particular enough to have gathered some information himself. That was part of the reason he thought it best to sit and chat rather than walk and talk.

He sets his cane down against his chair, "To be clear, if I haven't expressed it properly, I am glad to see you. I hope everything has been fine for you here - and I apologize if you're alone. It's a terrible feeling."

"My experience with instruments has been entirely digital, honestly." He had stopped to rest by the bard, observing his lute with curiosity. "It's been a long time since I've seen something acoustic." Of course, given his chronological age, he's seen plenty of older instruments - even modern tech can be confusing for him, but...

"I suppose to be more specific," he turns a bit sheepish, as though he's confessing something.

"I usually get some help, but my experience with music has been for video game soundtracks. Usually very simple, ah, I think it's called 'chiptune' these days?"

"How interesting," the small creature - neither cat nor dog, neither fox nor feline - seemed friendly enough. Not that he was entirely unused to such strange animals, chimera or creation - not to mention the Astral Express was swiftly becoming overrun with them - he knelt down, putting a hand out for it to sniff just in case.

"This is your companion?" He looks up to the young woman who is with the creature who had approached him.

"What is it's name?"

"Ah, no I'm not the boy's-" Legal guardian, he was about to say, but the child already looked jumpy enough that it made his heart lurch. Sighing, he gently places a hand on the boy's shoulder, patting him once. "As I was about to say, I am his legal guardian, not his father. We'll be going now."

The flower gardens were closed - not that Welt had known that either when he had come by - and apparently the boy had sneaked in. The security guard looked upset, and Welt turned them both around and started walking away. He could hear them talking into a portable radio, and it was...Slightly concerned.

"My name is Welt, in case they decide to question my...questionable acting."

"Hm, no recognizable astral bodies..." Unfortunately, he couldn't say where he was in the world. It seemed similar to Earth - if anything, most similar to the Earth he came from than anywhere else he had been. Pressing his lips into a thin line, he turns back to his phone, squinting at it and adjusting his glasses (which didn't help).

Looking at the telescope again, he then refers to his phone once more, focused enough on what he thinks is a space station that he jumps when he realizes he's not alone.

"Oh, sorry, is this your telescope? It was unattended, so I thought it might be good to try and figure out...where we are."

"So far, I have not a single idea beyond what we've been told."

"I like your chair," he says to her, the young woman who he sees down the street from his 'new home'. This, too, is Trailblazing, he supposes, and she seemed to be joyful at seeing someone out walking so late at night. So, naturally, he greeted her.

Even if the expression on her face surrounded by blonde hair unnerved him a tad. Not her being blonde, but in combination with how she appeared to be viewing the world around her...

Well, he shouldn't make assumptions. Dan Heng has plenty of trouble emoting, so.

"It's a warm summer night, so I can't say it's too terrible to talk to a new neighbor."
