chemistry and cramming //
my organic chemistry exam finally happened after 3 weeks of postponement; it was weird taking such a major exam online, but unfortunately it wasnāt multiple choice

Online class tips for those who hate online classes:
Get blue light blocking glasses if you can. Or sunglasses. They will help eye strain and headaches
Actually listen to lectures and pay attention
Try doing classes when you normally would in person
Textbooks! They are great to help
Take notes during lectures. Treat online lectures like an actual in person class.
Don't sit in bed all day. Be active. It helps you focus when you actually sit down for class.
Listen to the lectures outside if you can!
Start a drinking game with your friends in the class
Get your pets involved!
For people like me who are super anxious and hate talking in class, this is a perfect opportunity to participate and ask question without being in the spotlight
Get cute stationary. You aren't spending on gas and eating out so invest in some cute stationary!
Reach out to your virtual communities for help and interaction, like studyblr
Reward yourself!
Schedule time to sit and focus on school work
Dress up! Be dramatic!
Don't want to sit still? Desk excercises!
Mentors and people in the field!! Find them and email them!
Make bets with yourself
Make your notes into art and hang them around
Have nerdy conversations with the people lucky enough to be stuck with you
Write notes in a foreign language you want to learn
Clean your room so it's suitable for education
Learn that you can cus out your teachers now and they can't hear you
Educational podcasts
See if you can download lectures as mp.3 files so you can listen instead of staring at a screen
It's ok to cry during class
Sit somewhere with a wall that you can blank out at when your eyes get tired
Stretch breaks
Playlists for classes to play when doing work
Naps are valid
Cold, damp rags work wonders for hurting eyes and headaches. Lay back, close your eyes, put the rag over your eyes, and maybe nap
Burn some incense to add liveliness to a boring class
Everyone will love if you send pictures of your pets
Keep snacks and water nearby you during class to avoid getting up and leaving
Print out materials if you can
Get ahead when you can. Do things early. I have a friend who has already finished her classes a month early
CALENDARS
Study break where you don't use electronics or read
Make sure you charge everything over night
Treat it like actual class
Tests are probably open book so organize those notes!!!

being my friend means you never have to apologize for texting back late. you can respond four days late or drop off in the middle of a slow conversation and thatās okay! i know youāre busy or tired or just donāt have the energy to text anymore. you can hang up a phone call and start texting me instead. itās so hard to do social interaction. i get it. send me a meme once a week so i know youāre alive. i love you.

study less study smart
I decided to share my notes taken from this amazingĀ 1 hour Youtube lecture by Marty Lobdell.Ā i really liked him and his tips, i think they are super effective and cover a lot of situations! i highly recommend it!!!!! wow
but here are the tips and examples Marty mentions, so if you donāt have the time to go through the full hour, you can just scroll down. hope this helps somebody!
Break your study time in chunks with breaks
most students lose focus at 25 minutes
itās aĀ mistake to keep going once you do, since you wonāt actually learn anything and youāll hate every minute of it
so when you start losing focus take a 5 minute break
do something nice like talking to someone or listening to music
itās something you practice so with time youāll be able to work for more time without losing focus
in the end of the study session have a big reward you look forward to
Create a study area
environment highly affects the way you act. Bedrooms are for sleeping, kitchens for eating: youāll feel sleepy in your bedroom and hungry in the kitchen. So if you have a study area, itāll be easier to start studying and staying focused.
study in a specific room like an office or school library if you can
if you have to study in your bedroom use a specific object you only use for studying: a lamp/desk. Make it a no-distraction, away from your bed, blank walls area.
Ā The more active the learning, the better
80% active learning 20% passive
ask yourself: is it a concept or a fact?
learning a concept: understand/grasp/know it
put it into your own words
really think about the meaning of it
relate it with something you already know
teach somebody else. Recapitulate what youāve learned. Talk out loud even if you donāt have anyone to teach - talk alone. Or at anyone that listens.
learning a fact: memorize it
use mnemonics
Acronyms (e.g. colours of the rainbow RoyGBiv ā red orange yellow green blue indigo violet)
Ā Coined sayings - anything popular or sayings youāve heard since you were a child.
Interacting images ā work even better if theyāre weird. Creative associations make you never forget specific details. (e.g. 1 gram of fat has 9 calories: picture a fat cat ā each cat has 9 lives)
any time 2 things are highly similar but not the same you will get maximal interference!! USE mnemonics!! (e.g. afferent vs efferent neurons: SAME - SensoryĀ Afferent Motor Efferent)
Be a part of Ā study groups
others can help you in ways you never thought before
Recognizing VS remembering
never confuse the two
while reviewing a chapter you may recognize concepts but not actually know them
and when you get to the test you wonāt be able to remember any of it
so quiz yourself without looking at it
or stop in a page of your notes/textbook and ask yourself what is the concept immediately after and before it
Get your REM SleepĀ
get ~8 hours so you donāt undo your studying
this is how your brain stores permanent memories
without it youāre ability to remember seriously decreases
most people donāt even begin to take the advice but itās simple: sleep better. Do better.
Thereās 162 hours in a week. There is time.
reflect on what you are doing with your time and what activities you have to prioritize to succed as a student
Taking notes is vital.
right after the class take 5 minutes to expand everything youāve jotted down, give it depth.
NOT hours later. You wonāt remember half the things you wrote down.
Ask your questions to class mates and teachers.
teachers want you to succeed and itās more than ok to ask your question in the teacherās office or in the next class
How to use a textbook: SQ3R technique
Survey Question Read Recite Review
Survey: skim through the entire chapter in a couple of minutes.
Raise questions: e.g. what is osmosis? What is this graphic about? What is a prototype?
it causes you to look for answers and youāll find the information better once you actually study it after. If you intend to find something you learn it better.
Start studying for tests early.
donāt undo yourself. You should only be reviewing the days before the test. donāt leave it till the last minute!
(donāt just scroll through this!!!! really think about these methods and how you can actually implement them so you can benefit from them!!! these actually work but only if you put them into practice boo good luck!)
let me relaxā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦will comment laterā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦..
just something sweet
