okay so, as much as i am angry about steve’s ending, i just watched a video that made me remember that bucky probably knew about steve’s plans to stay in the past.

bucky told steve that he was going to miss him, even though steve was only supposed to disappear for a few seconds. i thought it was a joke initially, but now i realise that it wasn’t. they also repeated the lines:

“don’t do anything stupid until i get back.”

“how can i? you’re taking all the stupid with you.”

i thought it was just meant to be a nod to their old dialogue, but i realise that the exchange took place before bucky left for war, and in those circumstances, i don’t think either of them expected him to safely return.

bucky was also very calm while sam was panicking when steve hadn’t return, and seemed to know that steve would be sitting at a bench by the lake. he also encouraged sam to receive the shield from steve, which makes it seemed like he already knew steve’s intention.

it makes me feel so much better knowing that steve’s decision to go back in time was probably discussed with bucky beforehand, and perhaps even suggested by his best friend. it makes it less of a bad choice by steve, or rather, bad writing on the directors’ part.
