After being delayed last year, Blizzard’s remastering of the 2002 RTS Warcraft III: Reforged will finally see its release today at 11pm GMT (which is also 6pm EST and 3pm PST, as well as a bunch of other timezones if none of these are relevant for you).

Announced back in 2018, Warcraft III: Reforged is a completely rebuilt version of the original game, bringing new visuals to all the heroes, environments and buildings, as well as remastered maps and an improved UI.

GTA Online and Red Dead Online are giving away free cash and guns https://ift.tt/37BFIo5

Across the next fortnight, GTA Online players can claim $2,000,000 of crimecash for free just for logging in, while Red Dead Online players can scoop a free Bounty Hunter license as well as some free guns and ammo. Rockstar announced the freebies today while crowing about “another record-breaking holiday season” for both multiplayer modes, spaffing all sorts of claims against the digiwall. For example: December 2019 was GTA Online’s “largest month ever in terms of player numbers,” which is pretty impressive considering how old it is. But mostly I’m here for the free stuff.

I’m used to autobattlers giving me a headache. They’re a swirl of intense decision-making – puzzle boxes you’ve got to pry open and reassemble, while your opponents do the same thing. My first dozen hours with Teamfight Tactics and Dota Underlords were painful, but rewarding. I remember hacking away at an edifice of shifting understanding, slowly mastering the nuances of gold and wizard management. It was difficult. Fiddly as preparing a tartiflette.

Might & Magic: Chess Royale, by comparison, is the jacket potato of autobattlers. Rounds are quick, simple and tasty – but it won’t be long before you tire of them.

The folks behind Unity are showing their game engine off at its very fanciest in a new short film, created using the newest version. The Heretic, as it’s named, is the short adventure of a man and his technocrow going off to face a god. Some near-future urban fantasy vibes right here. Very fancy indeed. Come watch!

Warhammer Underworlds: Online seems OK, I guess https://ift.tt/37CiFtw

Warhammer Underworlds: Online is an adaptation of the tabletop game that its publisher Games Workshop calls a “tactical arena combat game”. That’s a fair summary, but I’m struggling to come up something more detailed that isn’t kind of negative. I’m finding it hard, to be brutally honest, to care about it much one way or the other.

Temtem is an early access game in which you trap and tame small creatures in magical cards, battle them against other tamers, and try to tame every variety of Temtem on the strange archipelago where you live. If this sounds like it’s all a synonym for Pokémon that’s because it is: Temtem is Pokémon on PC. Except, well, there are loads of Autochess games and Battle Royale games, so fantasy dogfights can be a larger genre than one series, right?

Although, that being said, Temtem does hit an awful lot of familiar beats, especially at the start. You wake up – today is a special day! Today you get to become a Temtem tamer! You run down the stairs, excited to finally leave home. You run into your “friend” Max, who is already committing to his role as your rival by being a hateful tool. And… who’s that? Who else is here on your special day?

Bethesda repatriate Fallout 76 theft victims through in-game clone meetups https://ift.tt/2tNpABt

Last month, hackers stole Fallout 76 items from player inventories while they were inside the game, literally pinching the shirts from their backs. Bethesda’s solution has been to create clones of affected players with their pre-theft inventories intact. If victims want to keep the gear they’ve gained since the hack and not switch to a month-old backup, Bethesda are offering an unusual experience: they’ll log in as your clone and meet you in-game to hand it all back, face-to-cloneface.

Frog Fractions is getting a Game Of The Decade edition https://ift.tt/37FqIpu

As far as I’m aware, you don’t actually need to know any maths to play Frog Fractions. Twinbeard’s edutainment game spoof is very much not what it seems, and later this year you’ll be able to play a standalone remastered version in a new Game of the Decade edition.

The game was released back in 2012 as a free browser game where you play as a frog eating bugs and protecting fruit. And that’s it. Nothing else weird happens at all, and you should not open this article if you want to play Frog Fractions blind.

For reasons, Space Engineers got its hooks into me last week. I had plans to fly around in space exploring, salvaging, and maybe pirating some rich jerks. But I started on a Mars-y orange planet (I am assured that Mars is not actually red, just its atmosphere), and had to get to space first. Well, first I had to figure out how the game worked, which was needlessly difficult, but whinge moan complain, that’s not what I’m here to talk about. I’m here to talk about what I built.

Have You Played? is an endless stream of game retrospectives. One a day, every day, perhaps for all time.

Also known as Theme Park 2, also know as Sim Theme Park. This game consumed my prepubescent years. That Theme Park World hasn’t received a gussy up and polish to sell on Steam or GOG is a genuine surprise to me, because it’s a smashing little management sim. I mean, it’s a Bullfrog game, so you know what to expect.

The Russian post-apocalypse game Metro Exodus has announced a date for its second DLC coming in February. Like the first DLC, Sam’s Story ditches the main game’s protagonist in favor of a new set of eyes. It will follow the story of a US Marine trying to make his way back to the states from the Moscow embassy where he was stationed before the nukes started a’flying.

For each new season of of Apex Legends, it seems like players always come to the party with leaks and datamines in hand, already having unearthed half the details about whatever Respawn are about to announce. So far this season is different, sort of. Despite a red herring, it looks like the leakers may have been right after all, based on the animated in-world video released by Respawn today.

At launch, the big, snowy expansion to giant creature game Monster Hunter: World had more than its fair share of problems. Some players had their MHW save files deleted. Others experienced drastic performance problems. Save some issues for the rest of the class, Iceborne. Two weeks ago, Capcom notified players of a planned patch to fix these problems. That patch is out now, they say.
