Cheren grimaced at being reminded of how he used to act. How riled up Team Plasma had made him. He’d be lying if he said he couldn’t easily see his younger self getting into trouble this way. So much for having matured since then.

“…I’m not sure. Until Iris says so, I guess. But I wasn’t trying to punch the Champion…”

“…I was trying to punch one of the Kanto leaders. Because I hate him.”

Touya stayed quiet for a moment, trying to gather his thoughts on how to properly reply to his friend. “Isn’t it just as bad to punch a gym leader as it is to punch a champion? Besides what did he even do to provoke you like that while you’re at an official league gathering?”

“Besides, it’s not like Iris can keep you on probation forever. This is your first time doing something like this right?” Cheren could be temperamental but Touya knew his friend didn’t do these kinds of things on a regular basis. “It’ll be over before you know it!”

“Yeah, well, you probably never expected me to punch the Champion of Hoenn in the face in front of the entire international Pokemon League, either.”

“But here we are.”

“Ok...just a few questions. Why did you punch the Champion of Hoenn in the face? What even drove you to the point of punching someone? You haven’t acted like that since team Plasma, and how long are you on probation for?”

“Uh… lonely? Angry? On probation? Take your pick.”

“How about we start with the ‘on probation’ thing, since that seems like something I’d never expect you to be on.”

“…You couldn’t have hidden in my closet or something and jumped out at me like a normal person? Why my bed?”

“What if Roxie was back and we were, like… making out or something? You’d have been trapped there and it would’ve been horrifying for everyone involved. Do you think before you do anything?”

“Nope. Closet would have been too obvious, and I didn’t think of that but I’ll keep that in mind for if I decide to do this again. Anyways, how have you been man?”

“HAVE YOU BEEN UNDER MY BED THIS WHOLE TIME?”

“Not the whole time. I was in town and decided to visit, since it has been a while since we’ve seen each other. Besides, I know where you hide the spare key to your place and decided to let myself in wait for you to come back.”

He paused for a moment before continuing, “Then I sorta got the idea to hide someplace and see how long it would take you to notice I was here.”

“Just the two of us… I… suppose I could handle something like that.”

“…Yeah! Just the two of us! Like old times!”

“It’ll be fun, besides, then you can gush about your girlfriend all you want and no one will judge you.”

“And everyone would be… at my house? Not sure I like the idea of all those people in my living room. Touching my things…”

“Well it doesn’t have to be everyone I just stated, those were just some ideas, you could just invite a handful of them. Or if you’re really opposed to the idea of having a party it could just be the two of us, would that be better?”

“I, uh… You know I’m garbage at that kind of thing… I’m not at my most comfortable during parties, even if it is just a small gathering…”

“Like… Who would we even invite?”

“The girls if they’re free, maybe a few of your students if they’re old enough and you like them enough. A few of your friends from the league maybe? Any other people you get along with? You know those kind of people.”

“…Oh, yeah! She always has one of those! That’s when she, uh– Never mind. Point is, that might not be such a bad idea…”

“…if I weren’t so terrible at throwing parties. Touya, you know I’m not a party person.”

“Well it doesn’t have to be a big party, just something small with a bunch of close friends and family, how does that sound? Nothing too crazy, no horrible disaster happening to anyone. Just something nice.”

“I could help you plan it, if you want.”

“Heh… Just been up to my neck in work. As usual. The holidays are coming, though, so I guess I have some free time coming up. No idea what to do with myself, though.”

“Figures, you’re still a ‘work first, people later’ person, but you wouldn’t be Cheren if you weren’t like that.”

“Well, why no throw a party for the holidays? If you haven’t been seeing much of anyone lately you could use that as an excuse to bring everyone together. Plus doesn’t Roxie do a holiday concert or something? If she is you could make everyone watch her, hmm?”

Cheren suddenly realized his uncharacteristic sentimentalism and pulled out of the hug as quickly as he initiated it. He cleared his throat, embarrassed.

“I, uh… Just… happy to see you. It’s been forever, since I’ve seen… anyone, really.”

Touya gave out a slight chuckle, “It’s fine to be happy, it’s good to see you too.”

“So what have you been up to? Just work? If you haven’t gone out much recently I can’t really expect anything exciting, huh?”

Must have caught him in a very particular mood, considering the very uncharacteristic, impulsive, and enthusiastic hug he suddenly offered.

“Yep, told you I’d visit in a few days didn’t I?” He returns the hug to his best friend. Honestly Touya’s a little surprised that Cheren offered it in the first place.

“You’re in a good mood.”

“Close my eyes? What does that have to–”

He sighed and closed his eyes anyway. Nothing to lose at this point, he supposed.

“Fine. What is this supposed to do?”

     Without a response Touya immediately walked up to his friend. He pulled out his friend’s pants then took a picture of his friends boxers before pulling them back up and returning his friend’s Xtransceiver.

     “You can open your eyes now, I’m done. All you need to do is just send that to Roxie.”

“Touya! You understand this stuff, right?!”

He thrust his Xtransceiver in Touya’s face desperately.

     “I should.” He took a second to look over the message displayed on the Xtransceiver’s screen. It seemed like a simple thing to do despite how...uncomfortable it might be. Still, he knew a way to help Cheren through this.

     “Alright, first things first, close your eyes.”

     “Cheren, need some help?”

“A best friend would’ve answered my texts.”

“So where have you been?”

     “I told you, places. More importantly though, you did miss me huh?”
