And no one knowing, and one day during a meeting Ferre's like "So I found the book you asked from me in the library but it's literally in all Spanish, not any luck there." and Enjolras is all like no that's ok still will do and everyone's like “,,,,,why Enjolras tell us how you'll suddenly learn fluent Spanish.” and Enj is like “oh no I already know Spanish it's my mother tongue.” and everyone is,,,,, just staring at him, Courfeyrac goes “you,,,,,,what do you mean, you're not french?”

The very genre of the Harry Potter series switches at the end of book four.

The story turns from a child wish fulfillment/school story/fairy tale into a war story coming-of-age centered around loss and sacrifice.

We don’t lose anything that deeply matters until the graveyard in Goblet of Fire. We protect the Stone. We save Ginny when she is lost, face Riddle and death and don’t even lose poor Gilderoy. In the third book, even when all seems lost, a few turns of the clock let us save both Sirius and Buckbeak from death.

After the graveyard, however, every victory (even just simple survival) comes with a loss. Cedric. Sirius. Dumbledore. In the final book, we lose Hedwig, Tonks, Lupin, Fred…

But it’s not just the prices of victory that change.

The way JKR deals with trauma and consequences in the fairytale books vs. the war story books also shifts. Dumbledore’s sins in the later books–ruthlessness, arrogance, lies for the greater good–they are dealt with. They are strewn out in Rita Skeeter’s book and Harry digests them, considers them, forgives them, moves on.

But Dumbledore’s crimes from the fairy tale days– leaving Harry with abusers for years, failing to properly defend against Slytherin’s heir (Ginny’s trauma is, in many ways, on Dumbledore’s responsible hands)– these, he is not called on. These, Dumbledore is not condemned for.

Snape’s worst bullying is performed in the first four books, as are the Dursley’s worst abuses. They are forgiven, with barely even lip service to these early crimes. 

Why? I think because they happened in a fairytale.

So anyway Christopher Tolkien literally took 70 boxes of his father’s disorganised notes and spent his whole life turning them into something that could be read, appreciated, studied and loved. Words can’t express how much this man did for everyone to whom Tolkien’s work means something…thank you so much, Christopher. Safe journey to the white shores under a swift sunrise.

I often joke that “J.R.R Tolkien published more books dead than alive” but thats mainly due to the lifetime of work Christopher Tolkien did and the many books that were Christopher Tolkien “edited” were essentially co-authored between him and his deceased father.

May he be remembered as fondly as his father.

Underrated Songs From Underrated Animated Musicals.

What I love the most about each of these is how the story progresses during the song.  Like any good song in a musical we learn more about the characters and their situations, and relationships.

And the animation in all of them is kickass.

I especially adore Kevin Kline and Kenneth Branagh heartily doing their best to sing, and ad libbing, and that the cut keeps their complete inability to hit the final notes.

This song was written by Sting under a pseudonym.

I fucking tear up every time I watch this.  I’m not so much a fan of the song itself as the marvelous way it shows Jim’s loss of his father and Silver slowly filling that void.

I fucking love Prince of Egypt.  I may be an atheist, but I want this song played at my funeral.

One of my favorite all-time villains.  The animation, MAN!

What were you gonna tell Rey before? Still on that? Is this a bad time? It sort of is a bad time.

Has anyone else noticed the moment where Rey can feel Ben’s presence before the force bond moment? 

He arrives on Exogul and it immediately cuts to Rey and you can see just by looking at her that she knows he’s there. 

He’s running to her, and as she’s playing along with Palpatine’s ceremonious speech or whatever, she looks to the side, looks for Ben, biding her time until he arrives. But of course he bumps into the KoR (how the hell did they end up there anyway?) and as Rey gets closer to the ‘sacrifice’ part, you can see the fear on her face growing. She doesn’t know what to do. Ben hasn’t come yet and she’s running out of time. 

She’s terrified of what’s about to happen. 

And then she sees him. And he sees her, through their bond, and instantly they both relax, knowing that they’re there for each other; there to save each other, and Rey knows for sure this time that Ben Solo is with her. You can see it in their expressions, and then suddenly Rey’s fear and uncertainty turns into determination.

All because she knows she is not alone anymore.

Look how scared she is. She’s scared, and she doesn’t know wtf she’s going to do with Palpatine...But then she sees Ben and almost can’t believe he’s come for her.

Baby boy looks at her so reassuringly, so calmly—making sure she’s focused on him. His face literally says, I’m with you. We’re in this together.

...And then baby girl’s eyes are literally shining with hope. She’s amazed. Someone came for her in her darkest moment. She’s not alone.
