Though Sol is no longer in the military, he keeps many of his old habits, so his bed routine is simple. He goes through his usual, thorough, hygiene routine, turns the lights out and hits the sack. Nothing special
Edin brushes his teeth, splashes his face with water, slips on his loose fitting, soft pj’s, and reads news and forums online in his bed to relax before hitn’ the z’s.
After the usual teeth brushing and what not, Rynna listens to music while surfing the internet, writing code, or practicing her lockpicking skills with some practice locks she has before dozing off, occasionally still listening to music.
Marcus washes up quickly, grabs a glass of scotch, from Earth because in spite of no longer being a citizen of the empire, he still maintains the taste for Earth liquor. With scotch in hand and with a lamp on, he reads books for a while, usually history or some kind of technical science.
Sol: one, but can make do just as well with none, a true military man
Edin: one or two, not too extravagant but a little comfortable
Rynna:Three or four, she needs someting to prop her back on while she works, and she also just likes to sit in the lap of luxury in small ways on occasion
Marcus: one or two, whatever keeps his neck comfortable at the time, he’s still hardy and spry, but years of ship maintenance has rendered his back prone to aches
Which one(s) sleep with stuffed animals:
Edin sleeps with an old, worn, lion from his early childhood back when his mother was still alive. He barely remembers her, but he remembers that she and his dad both gave it to him
Rynna will occasionally keep the odd cute or intriguing little stuffed animal near her in bed, partly because stuffed animals are kind of nice to have for comfort, but more because she just likes pretty things, and there isn’t a whole lot of room for pretty things aboard a small smuggling ship
Which one(s) prefer to sleep with someone else:
Sol is not dying to have someone else to sleep with, but he does still miss waking up next to his wife sometimes
Edin is more outward with his emotions than a lot of the others usually are, and though he doesn’t need it, it would make him very happy to have someone to hold onto in the middle of the night. He gets lonely sometimes out in the wide expanse of space among all of the pragmatic and emotionally insular people
Which one(s) would be awful to sleep with:
Marcus would be the absolute worst to sleep with. He’d hog the bed, snore loudly, and would not take well to being told to move over, or give another blanket, or anything. He’s grouchy when he’s sleepy
Marcus snores like a lawnmower
Edin snores like the gentle and distant babbling of a brook. It’s significantly more bearable
Sol: On his back, ironically in the soldier position
Edin: Starfish, maybe with one arm over his chest instead of sprawled out completely
Rynna: Yearner, with her watch held in her hands (watches are used to control earpieces that play music, take and send phone calls, and serve all of the non-visual purposes of a phone nowadays. Most services that require a screen are handled on the watch itself)
Marcus: Sleeps like a log, both in position and in depth of sleep
Sol sleeps in a fitted grey t-shirt and dark grey pants, he has several of the same item and sleeps in the exact same thing every night.
Edin wears either a t-shirt or an undershirt, usually either in white or grey, and a pair of the same tight black or navy pants he usually wears out and about on the ship. They’re comfortable and in case he needs to be out on deck quickly, he can just get up and run.
Rynna has been known to sleep in the exact same clothes that she worked in occasionally, but normally she wears a lightweight, loose fitting tank top or drapey shirt with the same tight pants as Edin or boxer shorts.
Marcus does not care that they are on a work ship and are expected to look all industrial and blue collar. He has acquired himself some old, linen and silk pairs of pajamas from Earth, the ones with the button up shirts, and he enjoys them to their fullest.
How long does it take to fall asleep:
Sol spends a little time just laying there and thinking, about how the day went and what to do tomorrow, and then dozes off without too much trouble within about a half an hour
Edin takes about fifteen minutes after he turns off his slip (a glass like, half inch thick panel that serves the purpose of a tablet or ipad)
Rynna tends to surf the internet and all that until she is too tired to continue and then she’s out in ten minutes.
Marcus closes his book and is out like a light within five minutes after.
Do they remember their dreams:
Sol: not usually, unless it was a rare nightmare about his wife’s or Wil’s death or his time in the military
Edin: Yes, sometimes, but he deosn’t talk about them
Marcus: Like Sol, only the occasional nightmares.
Which one(s) experience sleep paralysis:
None have ever experienced it, but Rynna is most likely to in the future because in comparison with the others, her sleeping habits are the least regular and healthy
Marcus: both kind of equally
Who requires special sleep conditions:
Marcus has difficulty sleeping if he cant support his back well because of the aches
Who is a restless sleeper:
Rynna is not necessarily a restless sleeper, but she is a light sleeper, so if there’s noise or any disturbances, then she might not sleep through the whole night
Who talks in their sleep:
Marcus mumbles quietly and incoherently occasionally if he’s dreaming
Sometimes, if you talk to Edin while he’s asleep, he’ll still answer you without waking up. Rynna likes to mess with him sometimes
Which one sleeps the most:
in order of most to least, Marcus, Edin, Rynna, Sol
Which one can naturally run on 5 or less hours of sleep
Sol can and does do so regularly
Rynna can handle it pretty well, though after a week or so of four to five hour nights, she’ll want a night or two of normal sleep
Which one is an insomniac:
Rynna kind of is, though not because of any medical condition. She just tends to stay up very late on her slip (tablet)
Reaction to a fire alarm while sleeping:
Sol is immediately up and on deck checking all the systems for the source of the alarm and giving out orders.
Edin is startled and usnsure for a brief moment before he rushes up on deck to await orders from Sol
Rynna hops up and whips out her slip (tablet) to check for problems on the ship while she puts on a decent shirt and then jogs out to the deck. She’s rigged her device up to the ship’s systems so she can work while away from her station.
Marcus flails and shouts angrily like a drunk for a moment, thinking someone is waking him up rudely. However, once he realizes that it’s an alarm, he’s opening comms with Sol and heading swiftly to the back room to check all of the hardware systems like piping and wiring himself because he prefers that to the computers.
Rynna has been known to sleep on rooftops alone tucked away into hidden corners with a gun in hand. If she’s found before she returns to the ship on her own, people who don’t know her well are often concerned because there’s this girl curled up in some city corner holding a gun. But no, she’s perfectly comfortable. She likes the bird’s eye view you get from rooftops, and she’s got sentry sensors hooked up to her earpiece so that if anyone comes looking for trouble, she can make quick work of them with the handgun.
Edin once spent a night sleeping with a blanket and a pillow in the kitchen under a counter top when he was eighteen because Rynna kept blasting space disco through the comms in his room. the next time they were planetside, Sol had a professional software engineer cut of Rynna’s control to her brother’s quarters. Rynna then spent the next eight months hacking back in. Not so she could continue terrorizing her older brother, because Sol had told her to stop. It was because she wanted to know that she could.
Marcus once spent the first day of a voyage snoring loudly at his station on deck. He’d spent the previous night drinking heavily through an argument with some locals over the best way to rig up nuclear thrust capabilities in an old, lightweight, commercial ship, and was now severely hungover. No one dared to bother him though, including Sol, because he is a force to be reckoned with when he’s hungover and tired.
Which one could sleep through the apocalypse:
Marcus. Hands down. And if the apocalypse did wake him, he’d shout at it incessantly until it went away with its tail between its legs.
If Sol needs a nap, which he only does after extremely long and intense situations, he does so on his bed.
Edin, if he ever needs a nap, will also take it on his bed.
Rynna doesn’t nap often but can take one practically anywhere if she wants to. Sometimes she’ll do it in her bed, sometimes in one of the smuggler’s hatches, maybe occasionally in the large storage compartments in the kitchen above the counters.
Marcus has a special recliner in his quarters with a side table, a bottle of scotch, a few books, and a lamp. That’s where he catches up on z’s midday.
Immediately after waking up
Sol is very quiet and reserved, even more so than he usually is. In fact, if you talk to him before he’s had a few minutes to get himself fully awake, he’ll often consciously ignore you. Not to be rude. He just doesn’t want to talk right now.
Edin is very happy as long as he’s slept well. He takes a moment to get completely with it, but after that he’s full of energy and happiness and ready to face the day.
Rynna is a little grumpy until she’s fully awake. She seems sharp as a tack, as usual, but she feels a little foggy so that puts her in a brief little mood. After that, the sass tones down slightly into a more good natured sort of spunk.
Marcus is the person that everyone on the ship avoids until he’s had his coffee, or his scotch, or something. He is the definition of grouchy. There are pretty much only two situations that will make his temper flare; encountering idiocy, and being either removed from or deprived of sleep.
