“Excuse me, but I don’t remember asking your opinion.” Eren scowled at the person infront of her. Who were they to try and give her advice? The brunette continued to shove things into her rucksack before turning back to them. “And before you start lecturing me on my life choices, you might want to have a look at your own.”

“Oh, I see. I didn’t mean any offense by calling you young, I just assumed you’d have a guardian of sorts…” She paused, “Where are you from?”

The woman shook her heard, her hair bouncing around her shoulders as she did. “California.” It was a short answer, but only because she had nothing else to say about it. She’d lived in California for so long, it was more home than her home town was.

Sam rolled her eyes with a smile, stuffing her hands in her pockets. “I wasn’t, actually. Shock of shocks, you’re not the only one that can see through all this bull.” 

Sam didn’t care much for the victory herself. She hadn’t been in the fighting, she wasn’t too close to anyone who had. She was just happy that all of the partying meant this barkeep was making the most money she ever had. Nowadays, it meant that she could stay afloat for a little while longer. Of course, she could have asked her sister for help, but she had too much pride for that.

Eren’s brows raised slightly at the other’s words. She may not have believed in any of this, but she certainly wasn’t as angry as this brunette seemed. “Wow, who pushed you out of the wrong side this morning?” She was well aware of how rudely she’d come off before, but it was one rule for her and another for someone else.. always.

“If you’re going to tell me how wonderful it is to have everyone home again, you may as well turn around and leave right now.” 

Eren was so sick and tired of everyone telling her how wonderful and special today was. How history was being made in Ermaynia today and nobody would ever forget this day. She wasn’t convinced. People here were far too selfish to remember something like that- especially her. At least not for the reason she should. If anything, it would go down in her memories as the single most boring day of her life. She rose a brow at the person who had approached her, almost daring them to argue with her.

Eren Galeford: 1920s

Eren is the niece of the Vampire High Council member, known by many people. She's manipulative and calculating, especially since having to move to Ermaynia. Her and her parents died a few years ago but she’s the only one who returned. Ermaynia was the perfect place for her to be now that she’s already dead.

1. What’s your muses honest opinion on mine?

Eren doesn’t have much of an opinion right now. She’s cautious around Hennele, but she’s like that with everyone. A big part of her is scared and another just finds her very, very strange. 

7. My muse is being attacked by a Vampire. Tell my how your muse would help them. 

Ahahaha Eren? Helping against a Vampire? Uh.. I guess she would either call for help or find the nearest thing to her and hit the attacker over the head with it. (I definitely see her doing this, while screaming in fear. She would be such a bad ass when she’s got a grip of herself, though.) She still hasn’t quite grasped the fact that she’s dead and can’t be killed again.

Celebrian paused and looked at the girl, her eyebrows knitting together. “I’m sorry to hear that. You don’t have to go into it if you’d rather not, but I am curious as to why someone so young is in a shelter?”

“I don’t come from here and I don’t have anywhere else to go.. What’s young got to do with it?” She raised her brows slightly, turning to watch the woman with curiosity.

Finch realized at the shift in her attitude that whatever was troubling her was obviously something important. Adjusting his stance he sat up and nodded, a journal pulled along with a pen as he began to listen to her speak. At first it confused him on a deep level, from a initial inspection it seemed her body was not going through any sense or sort of rigor-mortis nor did it seem that her body functions were failing, nor her brain capacity as she could speak clearly. 

“ Well the first thing that comes to my mind is frankly the roll of reanimation. It preserves the body, preserves the mind preserves everything that makes a human or whatever you are, what you are. I mean if you wouldn’t mind I can do an examination and that way we know what we’re working with, if everything is functioning naturally, may I inquire what caused this initial line of questioning? “

Reanimation? She really did feel dumb. “But what does any of that mean?” She’d been told that she was a spirit, and she knew exactly what kinds of things she could do.. like passing through people and.. well she hadn’t tried anything else. Could she walk through walls? Or water? Did she need to breathe under water? 

Eren shook her mind out, she was getting way too distracted. “What kind of examination are you talking about..?” She wasn’t sure if she was more concerned about him touching her, or him not being able to.

Without the movement being conscious, Hannele shook her head vehemently, nearly indignantly, as the woman’s words collided with her memories of the circumstances she had  lived in before she had died. “What does that matter? I was 25 when I died, and I hadn’t seen a school from the inside for ten years, nevermind a university.  Tertiary education, that was…that was something for champagne-drinking daughters of Swedish-speaking families with summer villas in the skerries. There was one single university in my entire country where people could study in my language. One! But there’s more to life than that! You have friends, and a family, and people you havent met yet. There’s so many bigger things happening than the question of whether one has a college degree!” Maybe she had spoken too loudly and with too much fervour, but the devotion with which she had been trying to find her own purpose pushed the words out. 

And of course the woman took a step backwards. It had been naive of her to expect everyone she would encounter in Ermaynia to be perfectly relaxed in the face of the existence of the supernatural, and due to her (admittedly self-imposed) relative isolation during the first part of her time on the islands she really didn’t have enough practice to deliver such statements nonchalantly. She didn’t follow the woman, merely remained standing on the spot in an attempt not to drive her away further, that much Hannele realized. “Vampire. I’m a vampire. And the person that made me one told me why I was supposed to stay alive - or whatever you want to call that.” And after a deep breath, she continued. “I failed that purpose within less than three months.”

She’d never been a fan of people that thought college didn’t matter. It wasn’t that Eren herself needed college to be someone important or to justify herself or anything that she had done in her life, but rather that she’d worked so damn hard to get there and she’d seen others do that same. All her friends had worked their butts off to try and make something of themselves but of course art school.. It wasn’t easy to get a job or recognition when you’d spent the last four year making artsy films and drawing the other students in your classes. But even with her strong feelings, she said nothing about it. This wasn’t the time to get into a fight.. 

They had been getting on fine until that. Eren stood away from the woman, unsure of herself. She knew of Vampires and that they existed, she’d met a few others, but never in a dark street with nobody else around. “What purpose? What could you possibly need to do? You’re not even alive.”

The man realized quite quickly that ma’am was not the best word to use, manners had taught him a long time ago to address females as such, and miss, but for the moment he didn’t even know her name let alone anything else…

She wasn’t sure about what any of his little rambling meant. She must have been a really stupid arts student, because she didn’t have the ‘mental capacity’ to deal with complicated language or scientific explanations.. this wasn’t a very well thought out plan. 

“I need you to just answer me in plain English, alright?” After a short pause, barley confirming whether or not he agreed, she continued. “I think I’m dead.. or something. I mean I know that I am, but I don’t get it. How is it possible for me to be dead but still here? And not even undead like a zombie or a vampire or something, but just dead.” Great, now Eren felt as if she were already the one not making sense.

Eren’s eyes narrowed at the man. Ma’am? “Okay.. Well I need some advice or something. Or just someone to tell me what the hell is going on, and I figured a scientist might be my best bet.”

Hannele still felt like she could count the non-humans of whose species she could be certain on one hand. It wasn’t something she would have brought up during a normal conversation, even at work she only ask for that information when it felt absolutely necessary. So she took the other woman’s apparent incorporeality with less nonchalance than she would have liked to, sucking in an audible breath before catching herself and realizing what a horrible reaction that had been. She had feared this for so many decades, that everyone else would consider her a monster - and she’d actually had more reason to hate herself for her new form, given that she had been reborn to live off others. She would try her best not to let that fate repeat in her presence.

“Well, I see you. And I hear you. I don’t feel you, no, but there’s still something about you that gets through to me. There has to be part of you that anchors you to this world, something that brought you back. Do you remember anything? Anything of what might have held you here?” Now it was time for a confession, Hannele supposed, to keep the words coming. She pulled out the first ID she had ever owned, long before the fake ones she’d been forced to have made to keep her date of birth in with her appearance. A tattered piece of paper it was, in outdated fonts, the Finnish spelt in a manner wholly different from how she would have used it now. “You know what? I’m dead as well, you see. In a way. I think it’s in a different way, but… I was born on November 7 1892.”

Eren waited for the woman to respond, and when she did it was exactly what she’d thought. The woman was shocked.. or at least she was pretending to be. Either way, it felt like pity. “I remember everything, but I don’t have a reason to still be here. I’m just.. I was just a college drop out.” Did this stranger really believe that all people had a reason to be on the earth? That they were supposed to stay until their work was done? It sounded so stupid to Eren right then, as if the woman was honestly trying to convince her that she was supposed to be like this. If she hadn’t been so frightened at that moment, she would have given the woman a piece of her mind.

Fortunately she was too frightened and too shy, too cold even. She wasn’t sure if she felt the cold but her entire body seemed to be. “eighteen ninety two..?” Perhaps the words previous hadn’t quite sunk into her head, but at that moment Eren stopped and took an instinctive step backwards. The Island terrified her, and so did it’s inhabitants. “Well.. What are you..?”

Bea pulled her jacket tighter around her and shrugged. “Honestly, this Island just can’t get any weirder.” She said shaking her head. Bea looked over at the woman next to her. “I hope that wasn’t ‘offensive’.” She said using air quotes.

She was right about that.. Eren was still staring off into the distance, absent mindedly. “Hm? Oh, no, I couldn’t give a crap.” She paused, backtracking slightly. “I mean, care. I don’t care.” She’d never liked the potty mouth that cali had given her.. just another thing she’d need to get over.

“All right, let’s go that way, then. Do you live near there?” she asked as she began to walk.

Eren’s eyes moved away from the woman in a moment of shame. “I’m staying in the shelter for a while.”

After learning that they were alike in some way or another, even if it was just the fact (according to the information she disposed of so far) that they had both outlived their stay, Hannele found it easier to walk next to the other woman. Somehow, it felt more appropriate. There was nothing that could tempt her now, just the perspective that she’d found someone who resembled her. Or maybe someone who was stuck in the one place right now where she had been stuck in 1918. What would have happened had she had someone back then to show her how to live without feeding on the world, how to not perceive a life she had acquired through none of her own doing as a burden, and to instead contribute to the justice she had been supposed to feed in her new life? 

But before she could even attempt to breathe life into any of those What Ifs, she would have to figure out what she was actually looking at. A boat accident left a lot of options - had someone found her? Changed her? Had the woman been different even before the accident? She’d have to play it slowly, the same way she did with patients trying to hide delinquencies by hiding their nature, telling herself she was sworn to the same kind of secrecy here as she was at the hospital. “How do you know you’re dead? What is it that changed about you? Do you still eat, or sleep, or feel pain?” She posed the questions while still walking, in an attempt to brush over the magnitude they potentially held.

So many questions, such little knowledge.. Eren held her hand out to the woman, focusing ever so slightly on it. “I know because I’m not.. me. I was told I was dead, see..” Her hand moved down and through the other woman’s arm as if it wasn’t there at all. It sent a sharp pain through her heart. “I don’t even know if I really exist.” There was plenty for her to focus on- the fact that she couldn’t be killed, or that she couldn’t be contained.. she was practically invincible as a ghost, but that also meant that she couldn’t die again.. as far as she knew. “I feel everything, but it’s in my heart and that’s one hundred times worse.” She didn’t even respond to the questions of food or rest- she didn’t care for them. “I’m just dead, in every sense.”
