it’s the year 70xx. being kin is now required to survive. you are given an id when you’re 5 years old and are required to follow the life of your previous kin EXACTLY to survive. people are secluded into simulated towns with their canonmates and are forced to follow EXACTLY how their timelines worked to the time the sun rose to the amount of steps they took on their way to the store. the government is run by highbloods and people with the ability to know more about everyone’s timeline than what they should normally be able to do. the government is recruited by taking in the 5 year olds once they learn their id and forcing them to be malevolent but silent rulers, watching over everything. the government put in place a system where there are microscopic robots placed everywhere that are programmed to notice mistakes and immediately vaporize everything in sight in order to make sure no failed timeline recreations survive.
imagine: somebody with a kind and benign soul who wishes no harm to anyone learns at the age of 5 years old that they’re destined to be bro strider and abuse their child for years in order for their timeline to be perfect. they can’t warn their child once they come of age. they have to live forever with the haunting thought that they are destined to be an abusive guardian.
imagine: being a dave strider kin. your entire life has been hell living with your bro. you make a mistake. you flashstep away after hearing the sound of the grinding metal of the robots, and watch as everything around you gets vaporized but you don’t.
imagine: bro survives this. you realize you’re safe, and your brother tells you he’s sorry, and he wanted to give you a happy life. you don’t believe it. but then, imagine that bro didn’t survive. nobody did but you. your entire town is gone, your friends, everyone. there is nobody left. you sit down. you continue sitting. you can’t ever get up. you die, alone, miserable with the terrifying thought that because of one mistake, everybody is gone. you failed.
the best bet would be for mind players because even if the brain was wiped their specific aspect would help them remember and start forming the army from other seers and slowly waking people up and killing anyone who had that look. Terezis specifically would be the help here because she has the willpower to kill for justice and make sure everyone who deserved to live through it all lived through it all and would be able to build an army big enough to overthrow the government
a dave kinnie would be able to react to the sounds that are similar to scraping metal and flash step out and to freedom. a curious john kinnie would try to do something with his retcon abilities and accidently retcon out and eventually retcon to the free dave. rose would be able to use her grimdark abilities to get out, but not because davesprite told her to do so. jade would be able to use her space powers with the help of bec to get out.
there were shops with different kin styles wigs and gear. schools had a “no doubles” rule. you had to pass classes related to your kins specialities to go to the next grade. there were different towns for different fandoms/tls. you could only have 1 kin id. fanart/fanfic of other kins/fandoms is illegal
imagine a beta kid timeline. for convenience, let’s say you’re dave. once you hear the grinding of metal, you know something fucked up. somehow, you all manage to escape. you all think you’ve survived, you’ve gotten to the end of the simulation and you can live on your own without the simulation and government guiding you. then, you get a memory of this happening before.
the government made you think you escaped in order to get more memories. they tricked you. you can’t tell anyone. but then, as soon as you get the memory, someone looks at you as you hesitate. they know. it wasn’t a fluke, and now two people know and you hesitated. the timeline made a mistake. you hear the robots activate. everyone is dead, and a new batch of kids are born.
let’s say the government was ruled by more benevolent people. there would be no simulations. everyone would still live with their canonmates, and you could change your id once every few years. this was called trans-id'ing. once you transitioned, you were legally required to move to a different town and find your new canonmates. media, such as fanart, of a different fandom was strictly forbidden to be shared between towns- there would be a black market for inter-fandom media. reading fanfiction of people that are not included in your life is considered stalking and highly illegal, as is writing. there would also be multiple different stores set up in each town to make you feel more valid, for wigs and clothing, and different kinds of food. bloodswaps and kidswaps from other universes are immediately sent here, as well as kids that weren’t the perfect recreation of their id.
