Brush Creek; 3 remarkable facts, myths, and questions.
Research:
You’re not supposed to come into contact with the water for 72 hours after it has rained due to the risk of contamination.
The creek went through ‘renovation’ following the flood of 1977 in which more than 20 people died and $66 million in damage occurred throughout the area.
Bush Creek contains alarmingly high rates of e coli due to the release of sewage from several sewers connecting to the creek as well as runoff from busy side roads.
Some believe the water to be smelly in general yet people blame the homeless for adding to the smell of the water resulting in a sour smell.
The fountains within the area of Brush Creek are used to recycle and filter water from the creek.
The myth that governor Pendergast had a side job with the mafia while paving Brush Creek and allowed them to dump bodies into the freshly poured concrete has been debunked.
Questions:
If Brush Creek had never been paved how many more species of fish would live within the water?
How did the paving of the creek impact the wildlife within it?
If the city was to redo or add concrete blocks along roads to prevent runoff how much would the project cost?
