Case File #1: Dead Drop
‘Fuck. E. We’ve got company. On your six.’
Eric froze as he looked up at his dead friend, and saw the genuinely worried look on Sterling’s face, an expression he knew all too well. But by the time he was sure that Sterling wasn’t kidding, it was too late.
“What are you sorry for?”
He shot back up from his crouching position instantly, and turned towards the busybody behind him, his body instinctively in defense mode. His arms instinctively reached out for where his rifle would be, but of course, there was nothing there. “I- uh.. Nothing.” Eric wiped off his tears with on hand, and hid Miranda’s message in his back pocket with the other. “I’m fine. I’m fine.”
‘We’re busted, E. Look at this guy - nosy prick. We’re so fucking busted.’ Eric tried his hardest to ignore Sterling, and looked intently towards the man before him.
The redhead forced a sheepish smile. “Well this is super embarrassing. I’m sorry you had to see that. Me crying like a baby. Not my finest moment.” he started, unsure how the man would respond next. “Look. It’s not-” What it looks like? What does it even look like? “-Can you just... forget you ever saw this, buddy?” Eric asked, maintaining his smile, but his eyes remain cautious.
