Denver City Council Taking a Stand On Banning Outdoor Medicinal Cannabis Advertising

Recently, the Denver Colorado city council strongly voted against outdoor medicinal cannabis advertising. With a 13-0 vote to present its support for a ban on outdoor advertising of medical marijuana, the Denver Colorado City Council is sure to have the banning implemented as soon as possible.

The Colorado City Council is expected to decide on the ban within the next few weeks, which seems like a foregone conclusion barring something big to change the city council’s decision.

They wish to represent that the dispensaries will have an image as more of a neighborhood- friendly establishment rather than a gaudy billboard and sign- spinners out on the streets. League of California Cities VS. Medical Marijuana: The Battle Continues

The League of California Cities has been very vocal and open against the concept of medical marijuana; they deemed that its healing benefits is remains uncertain despite the doctor’s at state research saying otherwise.

However, the representative of the League of California Cities said, the people’s choice provision would cost about half a million per special election and the city is cash-strapped to handle those expenses. Moreover, the “people’s choice” runs counter to the League’s goals of concentrating power with city leaders, not populace.

The almighty League strongly opposed letting the people of each city vote and got the AB 2312 changed at the last minute so that the city council or a country board of supervisors could ban dispensaries on their own.

Predictably, activists were very mad at the amendment. The amended AB 2312 would have codified storefront bans- which are currently in a legal limbo.

The League was the main reason the Assemblyman medical marijuana regulation bill got watered down at the end and get past the Assembly. The Assemblyman pulled the bill from the senate saying that he will bring a different version back in the winter.
