Take that permanent marker and cross out your permanent ending, and instead choose to STAY. I’ve seen some people leave Earth this week, and it got me thinking about mental health and how hard this year is. And it got me thinking about the pain on the faces and in the voices of the people who were left behind by those who left. I know what it is to leave an empty chair (an empty space in a heart) for someone, and I know what it is to be in total despair and wanting to leave this place for good. I know BOTH heartbreaks — that’s why I can write this. And if I can tell any of you anything, it is to STAY. I know it’s hard. I know. I know this world is absolutely ROUGH right now. I know it feels so hard to exist sometimes. But I also know there’s someone who relies on your smile, or your laugh, or just the thought of possibly talking to you. It’s true, believe me. Don’t rob the world of your love. We need it. We need as much love as we can get right now. And we’re all here, hands out, when you can’t carry yourself anymore...just look for us. For some reason, this year is a very special birthday for me. I’ve accomplished so much in the past few years, but not the kind of accomplishments I used to dream about: I stopped making my life so much about “success” and made it more about family, healing, and helping the animals and Earth. I’m closer to my fiancé and family than I’ve ever been, I’m close to getting my environmental science degree, I completed three pilots for TV — all surrounding real human issues or animals/nature through the eyes of fantasy and scifi (things very important to me), and I’ve shifted gears and am headed toward “what can I do for this wonderful world”, instead of wondering what I can get from it. Not that I was ever really that way, but I surely wasn’t as selfless as I should have been, and I’m glad I took a good hard look at myself and made those changes. I’m glad I’m focused on mental, spiritual, and physical health, so I can be better for those around me, instead of worrying about what’s in the mirror. I’m 36 years old now...I don’t have time for meanness in the world...I’m getting older and I just want to be kind and make a difference and love as much as possible. And the main reason I can do that today is because of the absolutely kind and wonderful people I have around me who just make my life so FULL. So, I posted this in January before the world went to shit...and I feel entirely compelled to repost it now to remind you all to keep your heads up! I have MANY ups and downs with the state of the world right now...it’s not an easy time for any of us. It feels like the earth is crying. I’ve had to set rules for myself to stay away from all apps, especially anything with the news. Humanity is DIVIDED, and that makes me so sad. BUT...I always remember this VITAL TRUTH: the powers that be (all sides, all power houses, all corporate puppeteers, none of them are innocent) WANT the division, but there is still hope and love and KINDNESS in all of us, and we will be okay as long as we practice this love on a daily basis. If you are surrounded by hateful, vile, toxic people who continue to push the divide further...please don’t give up...walk away from them kindly and come and find the rest of us who are filled with love and support. If you yourself harbor hatred, I will remind you of something I learned a long time ago: take a look at your beliefs and ask yourself, are these really mine? Am I happy because of them? Are they filling my world up with joy? Answer those honestly and your life with shift.
