it's so hard to tell what's real anymore
i've had to come to terms with the fact that i've been, to put it bluntly, living in a fantasy world for most of my 20s. i chose a profession that was dying with the hopes that i'd be able to find a foothold, and no, as it turns out, i can't.
i'm now in a job i explicitly don't believe is worth doing for the sake of earning money. if we're being honest, i'm not earning enough at it for me to keep doing it - but there also aren't any other jobs around me, so do it i must.
what do i do now? should i pursue alternative certifications? should i just give up the ghost, become a housewife, and figure out how to find fulfillment in that?
i'm so confused and sad, nearly all the time. where do i even go from here when i'm confused and sad like this all the time?

i've always been told not to be afraid of the future, but fuck, at this point, someone should be.
it's January, and i regularly go out in a pair of thin pajama pants and a short-sleeved t-shirt. shouldn't we all be afraid of that? are we just going to stick our heads in the sand until the housefires come for us? they already hit LA, so i don't know what the hell we're waiting for.
oh, and to top it all off, i'm broke, and i have a strong feeling i always will be. i'm buried in student loan debt. i have a bachelor's degree, but as anyone who's been job-hunting knows, that means fuck-all when you're competing against people who have master's degrees.
God i hope things change soon.

idk what this is supposed to be but here we go
i'm trying not to be fatalistic lately, but as you might imagine, it's pretty difficult.
i don't know where to begin, honestly. everything seems pointless and unlikely to lead to any real reward. something i've had to come to terms with lately: love of the game doesn't pay the bills, and the bills, whether you like it or not, have to be paid.
i'd ask why i didn't major in something more profitable, but my college friends who chose business and econ and finance aren't doing any better than i am. seems like the rat race is killing all of us, and none of us know how to make it better in the slightest.
will our children look at our lives and see them as ideal, the way we look at boomers? or will we be like our Depression-era great-grandparents, wandering from town to town in search of work, hoping things work out for us?
will i eventually become useful? or am i just a drain on society?

we sat with our elbows jammed together
on a noisy, overfilled bus, a sketchbook
wedged between us, and ballpoint pens
clenched in our tiny, trembling hands,
and i remember that same joy years later
shining over our heads like neon lights,
us, filthy and wiser but still the same somehow
when we sat on the phone and scribbled
as we grew older, we buried those golden days
hundreds of ideas with matching glitter pens,
on any kind of paper we could find,
and i knew the work would disappear
before the year was done, and i think,
in the back of your mind, that you knew, too.
Cats Copy. Hence the phrase copy cat. And this cat is clearly fond of this dog as a family member, and just now realized by observing:
"OH WAIT Human is making biscuits on this dog brother and it HELPS with his pain??? Hey I can do that!! I can do that too! Look! Biscuits!!"
Veterinarian at the next follow up: "Dog is looking really good! But I'm concerned - with this kind of progress, it looks like Dog is getting HOURS of massage every day. If you work yourself into a repetitive motion injury, you won't be able to keep up with Dog's home physical therapy, and, you know, you'll be hurt, too."
Human: "I give Dog a massage for about 30 minutes a day. The rest is all Cat."
