Okay, so after doing a bit more research on Rose, it sounds like it was picked up by Mubi for distribution. This makes sense since if it wanted to be released internationally, it would need to go through a distributor so it can get given out to a wider audience. Mubi hasn’t given a date yet for the movie to be released, but that would explain why I’ve been having a heck of a time finding it. I’m excited though, since I would hope this means that as we get into the slower movie season, it might be dropped on streaming platforms soon? Ngl though, if there’s a theater showing, I might go to see it in theaters too.

I imagine something similar will happen for Fatherland as well, since both Rose and Fatherland are pretty niche movies for the American market. It might take a few months for them to get situated on the streaming market or in theaters, so it’ll likely be a bit before we can see them proper. The movie that will probably drop next will likely be Digger in October (or possibly Rose, depending on when it decides to drop).

Anyway, just wanted to give you on an update on what I’ve seen in my research.

But ooh, I loved your suggesions for roles that she can play. Ngl tho, I think it'd be fun to see her do a more musical esque role. I'm hoping we'll get something similar in Digger, even if only a little. Her bit of talking from the trailer gives me stage vibes, so I'm hoping she'll get to pull out all of the stops for her acting chops. :)

Shows don't really come over where I'm at, so it's kinda cool that you can fly over in a reasonable time and get to see one of those. The shows that come here are usually only the big ones, and they cost an arm and a leg. Oof. ><

Since you've seen Sandra as Hamlet tho and you know way more about plays than me, is there a role you think she'd be great at? I think it was in the New Yorker in 2023 when she mentioned that she did a twist on Juliet's monologue by changing the context of it, and I could totally see her doing that for a number of other popular roles.

Any role at all..?? Hmmmm… I could totally see her as lady Macbeth

Or, for a musical option perhaps Madame Giry from phantom of the opera? I have the part memorized and I don’t think it would be completely impossible for her!

I'd love to hear your thoughts if you ever travel to see her live! I live too far away to do that, (it'd take me close to a day of flying - like 20+ hours to even get to Europe), and the price of flights is very expensive, so I will have to be content with that Hamlet performance for now. I lament there was no English subs, so I also just ended up focusing on her acting and her physicality.

Though I guess that also takes me out of the running since I wouldn't be able to really understand either. Lol.

I wanted to search out Sandra's Hamlet cause in interviews, she's mentioned that she doesn't really consider herself a film actor. She considers herself more as a theater actor who just got lucky in film.

Also I echo your note on her stage presence. It's absolutely amazing. I don't know if I'll ever get the chance to see her live, but like dang. She captures attention like nobody else can. When I was reading reviews of her performance from people that were there, it sounds like it was electric. The fact that people stayed through intermission or hurried back to watch her standing on stage is proof positive of how much stage presence she has.

For me, it was the moment when **that voice** and **those movements** came out of Sandra, that left me speechless. I had to rewind it to make sure I was hearing it right and I was seeing the physicality right.

Idk if you caught it too, but to me, she felt more comfortable and at home on stage, if that makes sense. There was a natural confident calmness to her on-stage acting that's different from when she's being filmed.

YES OH MY GOSH!!! You can really tell she feels at home onstage and it’s quite sweet to me. I have traveled to see shows before (it’s rare because travel is my #1 enemy), and if I found out she’s going to be in another show, I think I’ll at least try to see her live.

Soooo... how was Hamlet? (Also, I didn't get a virus when I watched it, so hopefully you didn't either.)

Holy moly. She’s a phenomenal actress on screen. And a phenomenal actress on stage. Seeing her onstage (even in a recording) is so cool. And with my very very limited ability to analyze her performance without knowing German, I think she was amazing.

More ramble time.

I just finished Zone of Interest. No spoilers here for the movie, but Holy heck. Watching Sandra play a role without her trademark empathy or humanity is terrifying. I didn't realize an actor could play a role so well, and also so hollowly.

I think with the right script and director, she could make a good villain if she wanted to. Her role in this is chilling.

It is. I am still left somewhat speechless by her acting in it, it made me so uncomfortable

Throwing caution to the wind, if I get a virus then so be it.

Update on my plan to watch hamlet, it’s not on prime anymore :(

Unfortunately, I don't have access to Prime, so ended up having to sail the seas since I can't find a way to legally buy a copy of Sandra Hüller's Hamlet. I'd enjoy hearing your take on the way she chose to play it, since I don't come from a stage actor background. I agree, it'd be cool to just sit down and have a conversation with her. She seems like a very down to Earth person, and I think it's cool that she continues to keep up with stage acting even as she does all of these acting jobs.

I'd like to hope that with all of the varied roles she's getting this year from Rose to PHM to Fatherland and Digger, she'd hopefully get some interesting questions this go around on the circuit. But yes, what I wouldn't give to be able to ask her more comprehensive questions about her career and what she's learned since.

Ngl, talking with you makes me want to actually start condensing these thoughts into a physical letter. While I'm not an actor, I can appreciate the amount of time and effort it takes to do what she (and you) do. I like hearing about the process of creation, and how it can grow and change over time, but also how people nurture it. I've found myself creatively inspired by Sandra as well. Though I'm not an actor, seeing her drive and hearing her passionately talk about her roles is just really inspiring.

Anyway, thank you for letting me ramble. XD
