Update on Eslam and her family’s situation in Gaza

Tumblr staff in all their infinite wisdom (or whatever it is going on over there, frankly I have no clue how they make such impressively bad decisions with such speed and consistency) have decided to delete all of Eslam’s tumblr accounts. Eslam and her family have been using these accounts as a support network during the ongoing war in Gaza. This comes on the heels of gofundme stopping transfers and effectively stealing several hundred dollars worth of donations from Eslam’s family, forcing her to move the fundraiser to Chuffed.

The deletion means that Eslam has lost access to all of her old posts (notably this also means that a significant first hand record of Israeli atrocities over the past 6 months has been destroyed) and that she has lost all of the following that she had relied on previously.

Eslam has expressed concern that she will be accused of being a scammer since she has a new account and fundraiser, which is a reasonable concern noting the continued efforts by various people to de-legitimize Palestinian fundraisers. I can confirm beyond a reasonable doubt that the new account is legitimate, as is the fundraiser on chuffed. Eslam and I have been speaking off of tumblr since before her accounts were banned, and she is the one who asked me to make this post.

I will not list all of Eslam’s new accounts here to avoid them all being banned again, but her main new account is @eslamfamily0. The new fundraiser can be found at the end of this post.

It is apparent that the will of people on this website and elsewhere to help Gazans has been steadily declining since the beginning of winter. I am uncertain why this is, although I have my own guesses, but I must stress that this is not a time to take a break. We have to be there for people like Eslam because nobody else is.

Eslam’s family has been through a lot this past year, and the last few weeks have been nothing but salt in the wound. Please do what you can to help.

I will leave it to Eslam to tell you about herself and her personal situation, because I think she can tell it far better than I can, so I will end this post here.

Urgent call for help:

Yesterday, my friend Eslam's accounts on tumblr were deleted without warning. She woke up to her network of support being completely cut off from her, and she has asked me to make this post to help get her reach back.

Eslam is a young mother of two, whose life was turned on his head with the israeli occupation's unprecedented aggression towards Gaza. She has lost her home and safety, and is now struggling to make ends meet with the scarcity of resources to secure shelter and food for her daughters, Hanaa and Alma, the latter of which is mere 10 months old.

She's been using tumblr for the better part of 6 months and it has helped tremendously. This cannot be the end of that support system, so I implore you to listen to and share her story, and consider donating funds to help her stay afloat. Her new account is @eslamfamily0
