Gaze of the Boy-King
Started watching supernatural. Here’s my first fanart: Sam Winchester, a WIP. Through making this, I realized what sad, puppydog eyes Sam has, although what he’s doing here is not ostensibly sad or puppydog. Can you guess what he’s up to? Follow for the finished piece.
I think it is that melancholic dichotomy, the way Sam’s self-effacing—and at times diminutive-energy, contrasts with a certain threatening quality (that comes with his size, demonic blood, and lifetime spent killing), which makes his character so interesting in its contradictions. He tries so hard to be normal compared to Dean—he seems like the more normal of the two outwardly, but all he’s known is instability and violence, and that shows through the cracks on several occasions. And he’s kind of mournful about it.
Painting him also made me note how much Sam’s face hardened over the years. He still has his baby fat here, whereas in the season I’m on (9) he’s become very cut and angular. I guess in a way, that change can be tracked in his psyche as well as his physical exterior.
I’m not finished with the series so no spoilers past s8 in the notes please (assuming there are any notes)
I feel like we really lost something when we started looking at writing as a reader-centric product meant to appeal to the desires of a specific audience rather than a writer-centric approach of someone writes whatever particular thing particular compels them/whatever weird thing the demons in their head want to talk about, and people out there who are also compelled, and/or relate, find that writing. A lot of discussions of writing really center around what readers want rather than a writer's exploration. Sometimes as a reader I don't know what I want. I click on a fic or pick up a book I'm not sure about but that looks interesting, and I love it. Reading what I expect to get is it's own joy, but we always need to expand our horizons and not get mad at creators for not always writing what we want/expect.

The OBSESSION with identity is so crazy like the view that when you do something it immediately becomes part of your identity and all the parts of you have to click together to become “person who wakes up early” or “person who reads” no you can literally just do something without restructuring your whole performance of personhood around it. I don’t know what to tell you except that you will never be able to have an entirely unfractured view of yourself or that you will be able to rationalize all the complex parts of yourself into the phrase “person who x” like you should just be doing things without performing them. Or aestheticizing them. Just try different things on and keep what works for you. Otherwise you will never learn and grow!

Disgust has absolutely no ethical weight. If you are basing your ethical positions on the emotion of disgust you should stop, it is entirely unjustified and leads to a huge amount of harm.
Word for today: wisdom of repugnance
The logical fallacy that because something disgusts you it must be bad
this is probably the funniest example of a tumblr user simply not reading the post theyre reblogging at all
Reblog if you are a freak who is justifying their gross actions
Tumblr is full of people who reblog posts saying, “I agree with everything in your essay except the central thesis.”
in 2026 let’s start actually noticing and taking seriously the true scale and impact of jkrs transmisogyny and how she’s been funneling decades of royalties and ip owner cash directly into anti trans lobbying thats been making the uk hell while gradually worsening conditions elsewhere through impacting the zeitgeist
Minute-long compilation to make up for inconsistent posting
my daily affirmation as an author
“Kids shouldn’t have to know about that.”
Okay so actually letting a serious topic be vague and confusing is much more scary for a child than explaining it in calm language they can understand.
just because someone can articulate their point better doesn’t make them right, it makes them articulated.
and you aren’t stupid for having trouble articulating yourself.
